The heli" of light Angel. hen discovered it was a doble heli" loop reminiscent of 8A floating in the sky. *owever,when it noticed Eva600 which had been sent to intercept it, it broke the loop, changed to a solid line, and pierced Eva600. This Angel infected Eva6009s living body parts while netrali$ing its A.T./ield, and attempted physical merging, btthe pilot of Eva600, ei Ayanami, sed this strategy against it. eversing her own A.T./ield, she cased Eva600 to self6destrct and destroyed the Angel along with it.

[Ar!el (16&h Angel)]The bird6like Angel that appeared in satellite orbit. #ts entire body was swathed in light, so it9s form was nclear. Eva60; deployed to intercept it, bt the Angel irradiated Eva60; with an energy beam of visible wavelength, and deployed adirect psychological attack on the psyche of the pilot. This energy beam was similar to an A.T./ield, bt the details arenclear. Eva600 tried to provide spport by sniping with the positron rifle, bt this had no effect on the Angel in satelliteorbit. Ths, E? decided to se the 'ance of 'ongins. Thrown by Eva600, the 'ance pierced and dispersed the Angel in satellite orbit.

This Angel displayed this fission ability in its initialbattle with the Evas, and the two parts sccessflly repelled Eva6019s and Eva60;9s attacks. #n addition, this Angelcold also reoin separated parts, and had fsed back into its initially discovered form when it breached the -oraabsolte defense perimeter. #t achieved entry into ew Tokyo6F, bt was defeated by a coordinated two6pointsimltaneos mass attack on it9s cores by Eva601 and Eva60;.



[Ire9l (11&h Angel)]The micro6machine6si$ed Angel which invaded the sper6compter CA-#. After being discovered on the o. IBprotein wall, it mltiplied at an e"plosive rate, and thereafter contined its encroachment inside the CA-# system. Althogh it e"hibited a weakness to o$one when initially discovered, the Angel overcame this weakness in short order,and achieved even faster growth by then taking in this o$one. &mashing throgh the gard programs deployed byE? one after another, the Angel reprogrammed CE'!*#O61 and 5AT*A&A6;, and proposed self destrctionpon the system. *owever, it did not scceed at reprogramming the remaining !A&%E6F, and instead broght abotits own death by an evoltion accelerating program compiled by 8r. itsko Akagi.

[Ev!ngeli#n]The formal name is 2All6prpose *manoid /ighting Cachine 6 Evangelion2 (*A@O4 *#TO-ATA =E&&E *E#=# 6>#HO4 #-E E?A-E#O+. 1G years of time and an astronomical amont of money were sed to bild theEvangelion in order to protect hmankind from the Angels. !onstrction was carried ot secretly by &pecial AgencyE?, which was also entrsted with the Evas9 operation. The Eva have the ability to both deploy and netrali$e an A.T./ield, bt the pilots are limited to 1G6year old boys and girls who lack mothers. The Eva normally operate onelectrical power spplied via a cable, bt the Eva can also detach this cable in an emergency and operate sing aninternal battery. *owever, in this case operation is limited to abot < mintes. Eva nits 00 to 0F were deployed thsfar, bt Eva600 and Eva60F have already been lost. #ncidentally, the name Evangelion is thoght to derive from 2Eva(Eve+2, wife of Adam in the Old Testament, and 2Evangel2, the English word for 2gospel2.

[En&r3 pl9g]The so6called cockpit in which the Eva pilot sits. #t is shaped like a long, thin capsle, and the pilot boards the Eva by

The 4 military was reorgani$ed following the large6scale civil conflicts which erpted after &econd #mpact,and both the Eastern and estern 5loc militaries were placed nder 4 command. *owever, this force provedcompletely powerless in battles against the Angels.

[Third I4p!&] A large6scale catastrophe predicted to follow -iant #mpact and &econd #mpact. #t was said that Third #mpact wold be



cased by contact between Adam and an Angel, and wold be of a scale that wold annihilate hmankind. &pecial Agency E? and the Eva were officially e"plained as e"isting to prevent this Third #mpact.

KS!hiel (:rd Angel)]The first Angel to appear before hmankind in the 1< years since &econd #mpact. Althogh hmanoid in form, this Angel did not have a cranial portion like a hman. #t easily fended off the attacks of the 4 military, ths demonstratingto hmankind the high battle capability of the Angels. #ts invasion was slowed by the detonation of an ^; mine, bt itrecovered before long. #t grew a new face6like portion, evolved into a second version, and renewed its invasion.*owever, the Third !hildren ) &hini #kari, who arrived that same day, hastily boarded Eva601 and was rshed into

battle in ew Tokyo6F. The Angel was defeated by Eva601 after the Eva nit went berserk.

[S!h!;9iel (10&h Angel)]The largest of all the Angels which was discovered in satellite orbit over the #ndian Ocean. #t deployed powerfl amming from a high altitde, ths blocking srface commnications over a wide range. ^; aerial charges weretested against the Angel, bt with no effect, and the srvey satellites were also destroyed by the Angel9s A.T./ield./rthermore, this Angel separated and dropped parts of itself from orbit. This was not bombing, bt sighting measres,and after the Angel had fi"ed its aim, it ltimately fell itself in an attempt to inclsively annihilate ew Tokyo6F.*owever, this intent was foiled by a strategy which might be considered a gamble 66 having the three Eva nits catchthe falling Angel with their bare hands.
