Decade Review with SFI In ONE clear, concise sentence, directly state the major change over time for each of the following periods. Then, list five bits of specific factual information from that decade that support your change over time. For ONE piece of information from EACH group, write a clear direct statement (interpretive commentary) that shows HOW or WHY that specific factual information proves your change over time. 1600-1650 Change over time: start of the successful settlement of north America. 1. formation of cheaspeake bay as a harbor 2. women outnumbered 12:1 for a long time. 3. mercantilism and such. 4. first successful agriculture settlements of white men 5. establishment of Rhode island Maine and a few other permanent colonies. Interpretive commentary: successful colonization requires the self sufficiency of food stuffs, colonies take official names and land outlines demonstrating intentions to be permanent. 1650-1700 Change over time: settlements began to take structure and organization 1. numbers in the colonies exploded 2. colonies were officially 13 separate land sections 3. colonies become more self sufficient and setup their own markets and such. 4. slaves were starting to be imported for working on the plantations 5. founding of many colleges. Interpretive commentary: organization and structure creep into the colonies as colleges are formed and more permanent ways of doing things take effect, in the new world. The colonies finally advance to the point of needing slaves to handle the demand for agriculture 1700-1750 Change over time: colonization became more difficult with multiple countries ruling neighboring sections. Colonists became further discontented.

1600-1650Change over time: start of the successful settlement of north America.

1760sChange over time: fewer dealings with the Indians for a while, england tries to strengthen their grip.

1. sugar act = more taxes= unhappy 2. quartering act required support brittish troops3. stamp act taxes on printed goods4.colonies united in an effort 5. British troops arrive to enforce customs

Interpretive commentary: the revolutionary war has it's foundation laid during this time. All of the English “Acts” were just taxes and further disgruntled the American people who unified as “Americans” rather than colonists.

1770sChange over time: America fights to become a sovereign nation and Americans take on their identity.1. Townsend act repealed toooo late. 2. boston tea party 3. declaration of independence signed.4. son's of liberty formed. 5. start of the revolutionary war.

Interpretive commentary:american's became so upset with the treatment from england that they took up arms against it. Birth of a nation! We finally separate ourselves from the english.

1780sChange over time: reconstruction after the war, and adaptation to the new lifestyle.1. articles of confederation go into effect. 2. loyalist return to england. 3. US constitution is framed and accepted during this time. 4. constitution is ratified! 5. first president takes office and starts the linage

Interpretive commentary:american's foundation has been set in stone and it churns to life like a massive clock.
