The Geology Department of Fergusson College has an excellent and unique Museum known as Prof K.V. Kelkar Museum. This Museum was set up in 1962 when Prof K. V. Kelkar the first Head of the Geology Department, Fergusson College, retired. This Museum was established by the students in honour of their teacher who was a pioneer in graduate and post-graduate studies in Geology in the Western part of Maharashtra. The Museum is a vast treasure of over 2500 geological specimens, including rare fossils, minerals and gemstones, collected around the world by the students and the teachers of the department during their field trips. Geology Geology is the scientific exploration of the planet Earth, wherein the Earth is a geologist's laboratory. Geologists study rocks, fossils, minerals, and the processes by which they were formed over the Earth's 4.6 billion-year history. Many problems in geology are much like solving a puzzle. A common task for students is to present a possible clarification of the events that occurred to produce the landscape surrounding them. They learn to recognize signs of hidden valuable ores, minerals, and fuels so that they can be extracted and used by mankind. Geology, an interdisciplinary subject helps in investigating and finding answers to many practical questions of daily importance, as well as those that have more long-term consequences. ·The department has a student association called Geo-association which was formed in 1956.Under the association various activities like field tours, lecture series and industry-academia interactions are organised.

The annual departmental festival called 'FLINTS' is organised by the Geology Association every year. The different activities during this event include projects, rocks and mineral exhibition, photography competition, Instagram photo competition etc. One of the lead attraction during this fest is the intercollegiate quiz and debate competition. An annual lecture in the honour of Prof. K. V. Kelkar, the first Head of Geology Department is also an important event during the fest where eminent geologists are invited to share their knowledge on the current trends in geology.

An additional attraction of the department is its very own e-magazine called ‘Conglomerate’ which is one of its kind student magazine in geology in India, which can be downloaded from the following link: http://www.fergusson.edu//upload/news/12558_docu_e-geoMagazineConglomerate.pdf
