God’s Word - Devoted To Him
“The great need of the present hour is Christians who have learned to sing the song of deliverance on the testing side of trouble.”
David Wilkerson
The Guardian Of Our Way
“At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed
and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth. 2 Timothy 4:16-17
Ira Sankey was the music director and soloist for the nineteenth-century evangelist D.L. Moody. Once while traveling Sankey was recognized and asked to sing. He suggested that everyone join him in singing the hymn by William Bradbury, “Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us.” One of the verses of this hymn begins, “We are thine do thou befriend us, be the guardian of our way.” When the singing finished a man stepped out of the crowd and asked, “Were you in the army, Mr. Sankey?” “Yes, I joined up in 1860.” “Did you ever do guard duty at night in Maryland about 1862?” “Yes, I did.” “Well, I was in the Confederate Army,” said the man, “and I saw you one night at Sharpsburg. You were wearing your blue uniform and I had you in my gunsight as you stood there in the light of the full moon. Then just as I was about to pull the trigger, you began to sing.” Sankey was stunned. “It was the same hymn you sang tonight,” continued the man. “My mother often sang it but I never expected to hear it sung at midnight by a soldier on guard duty. I realized you were a Christian and I couldn’t shoot you.” Sankey lovingly embraced his former enemy. The Lord is faithful to protect us even when we are unaware of danger. When you face danger Christ is at your side. Today in prayer give thanks that Christ is the guardian of your way.
We are thine; do thou befriend us; Be the guardian of our way; Keep thy flock; from sin defend us; Seek us when we go astray.
- William Bradbury
From Generation to Generation Devotional Thoughts
15 On the day the tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the
testimony, and it appeared like fire above the tabernacle from evening until morning.
16 It remained that way continuously: the cloud would cover it, appearing like fire at night.
17 Whenever the cloud was lifted up above the tent, the Israelites would set out; at the place
where the cloud stopped, there the Israelites camped.
18 At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at the Lord’s command they camped.
As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle, they camped.
19 Even when the cloud stayed over the tabernacle many days, the Israelites carried out
the Lord’s requirement and did not set out.
20 Sometimes the cloud remained over the tabernacle for only a few days. They would camp
at the Lord’s command and set out at the Lord’s command.
21 Sometimes the cloud remained only from evening until morning; when the cloud lifted in the
morning, they set out. Or if it remained a day and a night, they moved out when the cloud
lifted.
22 Whether it was two days, a month, or longer, the Israelites camped and did not set out
as long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle. But when it was lifted, they set out.
23 They camped at the Lord’s command, and they set out at the Lord’s command. They
carried out the Lord’s requirement according to his command through Moses.

If you hear the Lord speaking and see His hand moving, join Him where He is at work.
If you have no sense of God’s presence or direction, join Him with your heart and spirit
forever in a love relationship through Jesus Christ –
then you will be in a spiritual position to hear and see Him at work.

Tithes & Offerings
In the parable of the sower, Jesus talked about “the deceitfulness of riches.”
Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word,
and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches
choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.”
How can riches be deceitful…?
Riches can result in greed. No one likes to think of themselves as greedy, but greed is such a sneaky sin that it blinds you in a way that other things do not. To do a quick ‘greed check,’ ask yourself how much you dislike seeing greed in others. The more intensely you react to others’ greed, the more likely it is that you have an issue with greed yourself. As Jesus said, “Judge not, that you be not judged.” Watch out for those areas where you tend to be most judgmental. That may give you some clues to your own weaknesses. Money doesn’t buy happiness. I found from doing estate planning with very wealthy people that they are some of the unhappiest people on the planet. That’s because they are fooled by the deceitfulness of their wealth. They think they should hang onto it at all costs.

Today we are studying: Solomon Tells of Jesus’ Coming Psalm 72:1-19
Bible Point: Jesus does great things.
Today’s Key Verse: “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:5)
“Partnering with Parents”
As we enter the Christmas season, think about the holiday traditions you currently have. Why do you hang lights? Why do you put ornaments on a tree? Why do you even have a Christmas tree? Sometimes we continue with traditions when we don’t even know what they represent. Give each person in your family a small square of wrapping paper. Have each person write on the blank side of the wrapping paper a great thing Jesus has done in his or her life, then discuss these “gifts” as a family. Do you already celebrate any of these things during the holidays? Brainstorm as a family how you can create a new family tradition that commemorates these great things.
