6. The USC Pacific Asia Museum is pleased to host the second year of the Teen Ambassador Program for high school students! As Teen Ambassadors to the museum, students will get to plan events, learn about careers in museums, and receive volunteer credit. This

is also a great way for students to learn more about the USC community. The program will culminate at Teen Night, a special teen-only event at the museum that the ambassadors will help plan during their time in the program. The Teen Ambassador Program requires a commitment of attending two Thursday after-school meetings a month. We are accepting applications through December 18, 2019. 7. Next Saturday school will be on Saturday, December 14. Meet in front of the flagpole at 8am sharp.

8. High School students must submit 40 hours of service learning in order to graduate. Please submit these hours on the student portal and turn in the double-sided service learning form to their School Counselor by Jan 6th. To log your hours in Aeries, go into the student portal, click on student info, click on service learning, select the organization (or enter it if it is not there), then log the hours you provided service and provide details on duties you fulfilled for the dates you assisted that organization. Your School Counselor will approve of these hours once you provide her with the completed double-sided form and have logged your hours. Sixth graders must complete 20 hours, seventh graders must complete 20 hours, and Eighth graders must complete 25 hours. Please follow the same steps to get your service learning hours approved.

9. The 2020 USC Bovard Scholars application is now open! We are excited to

welcome our fourth cohort of Bovard Scholars to the USC campus this summer. We invite all high-

achieving high school juniors with financial need to apply. Do you or someone you know fit the

following requirements: be a Junior in high school (11th grader) at time of application, currently

hold a 4.0 GPA or above, enrolled in Algebra II, Trigonometry or above, Demonstrate financial need.

If so, you are eligible to apply. If selected, each Bovard Scholar will have one full year of support

through the admissions cycle and spend three weeks on the USC campus, where they will receive:

Personalized career exploration - Expert admission and financial aid support - Comprehensive test

preparation - Leadership development. This year, the program runs from July 12, 2020, through

August 1, 2020. We offer the program at no cost to students or families. USC will pay for

transportation to and from campus for students coming from outside of Southern California.

10. Attention 8th graders: Are you in DLIP? Would you like to earn your Biliteracy Attainment Award at Promotion? Completion of 20 hours of community service using target language Spanish in service to school or community, is one of the requirements. Please check with Mrs. Tovar or with your counselor to see if your hours will qualify. Submit your hours by February 28, 2019.

Do you want to be a leader of today? Come join Changeist, and make up over 100 community service hours. Changeist runs a free 22-week Saturday program for participants. At Changeist you are going to develop leadership skills, problem-solving, strategies and relationships with activists, organizers and experts in various fields. Are you looking for a fun way to earn your volunteer service hours? Come learn more about our Student Leadership Board! The purpose of the Student Leadership Board is to encourage high school students to become active in leadership and community service by raising awareness of the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House mission, supporting the House through fundraising and volunteer efforts, and acting as ambassadors in the student’s school and community. The Altadena Library is seeking Teen volunteers to help school aged kids doing their homework on Mondays, and Wednesdays, at 3:30pm at The Altadena Library Main Branch, and on Tuesdays at 3:30pm at The Bob Lucas Branch (located on Lincoln and Ventura). Homework Helper time is 3:30pm to 5:00pm. Student helpers do homework and reading with elementary school kids. This can be done together as a team, or as a lone volunteer. I am looking to fill positions very soon. This is a great service opportunity for students who are going to be applying to colleges soon! The Black College Expo is looking for all Juniors and Seniors to participate in the Win Dollars for College Scholarship. Win scholarship money by writing an essay on “Why is a College Education Important to Me?”. Deadline to apply is Monday, January 13, 2020. The Coolidge Scholarship is an annually awarded, full-ride, presidential

scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate

study. The Coolidge is for Juniors, and may be used by recipients at any accredited American college or

university. Anyone of any background, pursuing any academic discipline of study, may apply to this non-

partisan, need-blind, program. The primary criterion of the Coolidge Scholarship is academic excellence.

Through its Mentoring and Leadership Development Program, the Jackie Robinson

Foundation provides scholarships of up to $30,000 over four years to minority high school students

showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial need to attend an accredited 4-year college or
