DAEJEON, Korea – Korea’s Song Si Ra became the
first woman to win a World Bowling Tour major title
when she upset countryman and top qualifier Choi
Tae Seung, 231-205, to win the It’s Daejeon
International Open at the Daejeon World Cup
Bowling Centre.
Song, 24, advance to the title match by defeating
Canada’s Dan MacLelland, 213-195, in the semifinal
match after MacLelland won a three-player shootout
match to start the championships round.
In the It’s Daejeon International Open, like many
international events, women who entered the “open”
division received eight handicap pins per game, but
Song didn’t need the “bonus” pins because she won
each match by more than eight pins. Along with her
title, Song earned 40 million Korean won, the equivalent
of $37,200 U.S. dollars. Choi earned $18,600 and
MacLelland took home $9,000 for his third-place finish.
In the shootout match, which was televised nationally
in Korea, MacLelland’s 196 eliminated Korea’s Lee Na
Hyun (168) and Jang Dong Chul (167). Lee was the sec-
ond woman to make the championship round.
Song does not receive credit for a PBA International
Tour title because she is a non-member, and in order for
a woman to earn a PBA Tour title, she must be a PBA
member and bowl the event without receiving handicap
pins.

NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ – Stan Niemiec Youth Travelers’ unfamil-
iarity with the Bowl-O-Drome could have been a contributing factor in
the lower-than-usual scoring session. On the other hand, if you’re in a
hot zone as Holiday I’s Frank Magyar is, lane conditions are not a
deterrent. Repeating as Bowler of the Week, Frank peppered the lanes
with 208-211-245: 664 and teammate Lilly Sigona added a closing
212, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the squad’s sweep at the hands of
North Arlington, 2770-2547. Scoring well for the victors were Haley
Hassan 224, Tyler Keefe 215 and Chris Liloia 200.
Montvale, riding Henry Tipping’s pair of 181s and the above-aver-
age efforts of Michaella Raab, held first place by snaring five points
from Bowler City I, 2661-2589. Driving BC I’s offense was Passaic
Tech junior Anthony Rizzo 223-226-636, JonMikal Sepero 199 and
James Kane 194.
T-Bowl, sparked by Patrick Mayer 222 and Matt Morris 212, rolled
past short-handed Holiday II, 2776-2554. In sweeping the match, T-
Bowl improved its record to 23-19 as they catapulted into fourth place.
Holiday II’s best post came from Tom Chamberlain 221.
In another stirring position battle, Lodi upended Boonton, 2827-
2744 behind Chris Navarro 246-626 and Ridgefield Park freshman
Brandon Voorhees, who, after a rough outing last week, rebounded
with 216-196. Pacing Boonton were Erik Kattermann 237-233 and
Sean McGuire 188.
Fair Lawn, powered by 13-year-old Nick Greco 202-211 and
Hawthorne sophomore Steve Plaszky 224-203, fired closing games of
955 and 953 to take five points from a strong Bowler City III quartet,
2750-2667. Clearing the pin deck for the latter were Greg Khan 237,
Cliffside Park freshman Gianni Calzadilla 222 and Nick Reyes 202.
Closing out the afternoon’s session, Bowler City II earned five points
by twice bettering the vacancy score as Dean Edwards smoked the
plastic-sticks, firing 246-223 and Paramus Catholic freshman George
Held chipped in with 200-193.

John Iaccarino Slammed a Lucky 777
At Montvale LanesMONTVALE, NJ - John Iaccarino blasted scores of 253-246-278 for a
777 series to lead all scoring in the Thursday Early Bird League at
Montvale Lanes. Henry Carlos followed closely behind with scores of
279-258-239 for a 776 series.
Other great bowling for the night included Dan Wuhrman 268-741,
Tom Fojtlin 267-728, Ken Brown 248-720, Bob Greenwood268-713,
Mike Rovetto 242-697, Dennie Hanowitz 247-688, Dan Conte 266-687,
and Tom Bruno 238-683.
ABU DHABI, United Arab
Emirates - Canada's Dan
MacLelland said there one was
main thing missing from his
bowling resume, and he now can
cross that off the list after topping
local favorite Shaker Al Hassan
to claim the singles gold medal at
the 2014 World Bowling Men's
Championships in Abu Dhabi last
week.
MacLelland and Al Hassan
exchanged open frames early in
the finale at Zayed Sports City's
Khalifa International Bowling
Centre, but MacLelland got com-
fortable and closed with nine con-
secutive strikes to seal the 256-
212 victory.
"Right now, this is so overwhelming," said
MacLelland, a 29-year-old right-hander. "This is
something I've been missing but always wanted. And
since it's the first event of the week, I hope it can
snowball from here."
The win marked Canada's sixth gold medal in
World Championships competition, while Al
Hassan's silver medal was the first for the United
Arab Emirates. UAE's previous-best was bronze
medals in team and Masters in 2003 and all-events in
1995.
"This feels great, and I am so happy," said Al
Hassan, who won the World Bowling Tour 12th
Kingdom of Bahrain
International Bowling
Championship in March. "It is the
first time in my life I've gotten a
singles medal at the World
Championships. There are so
many people behind us helping us
reach this level, and we are grate-
ful. This is a big event for us,
especially since it's here in Abu
Dhabi."
On the way to the gold-medal
match, MacLelland struck 10
times in a 269-236 victory over
Team USA's Tommy Jones.
The top-seeded Jones was
unable to strike on his first three
shots on the right lane, including a
4-9 split, and allowed MacLelland to build a 54-pin
lead after five frames. Jones struck on his last seven
shots, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
In the other semifinal, Al Hassan struck five con-
secutive times from the third frame and was able to
maintain the momentum in a 255-212 win against
Australia's Sam Cooley.
Cooley and Jones each earned bronze medals.
Jones averaged 239 to lead singles qualifying with
1,434 six-game total. Cooley was second with 1,428
and was followed by Al Hassan (1,422) and
MacLelland (1,413). All-events medals will be
awarded based on total pinfall for 24 games

16 Youth Teams Earn Titles in
USA Bowling Regional EventsBy Terry Bigham - IBC
ARLINGTON, Texas – More than 550 youth bowlers took part in
eight USA Bowling regional tournaments that were held throughout
the country this fall with 16 teams – one Under 12 team and one
Under 15 team at each regional – claiming titles.
USA Bowling is a team-based youth program offered through the
International Bowling Campus. The program launched the USA
Bowling Regional tournaments last year as the first step in the
development of a premier event for youth team competition.
Starting the first week in October, USA Bowling conducted a
regional tournament each weekend for a total of eight events in
2014. Each two-day regional offered Under 12 and Under 15 divi-
sions for teams; each team was comprised of four to six bowlers.
The tournament format utilized the Baker format during the two
days of competition.
“The USA Bowling Regional tournaments provide young bowlers
an opportunity to engage in an exciting team competition,” said
Chad Murphy, United States Bowling Congress Executive Director
and IBC Managing Director of Youth Development. “We took
another step this year as we continue to build the regional tourna-
ment program toward a national event.”
For 2015, the plans are to host 16 events with advancers from
each of the regional events invited to compete in the first USA
Bowling National Championships in 2016.
The regional tournaments were held at Mike Aulby’s Arrowhead
Bowl in Lafayette, Indiana; Paradise Bowl in Tacoma, Washington;
Don Carter Lanes in Rockford, Illinois; Pin Chasers Midtown in
Tampa, Florida; Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kansas; Rab’s
Country Lanes in Staten Island, New York; Fountain Bowl in
Fountain Valley, California; and Vestavia Bowl in Birmingham,
Alabama.
AMERICAN FORCES NETWORK TO AGAIN
AIR PBA FINALS AROUND THE WORLD
The American Forces Network, a non-commercial
television service made available by the U.S.
Department of Defense, will continue to air PBA tele-
casts to more than a half million active duty, uni-
formed personnel based in 175 locations around the
world, thanks to the renewal of an ongoing agreement
with the PBA.
PBA programming will be provided to AFN at no
cost, PBA Commissioner Tom Clark announced. The
subscription-free cable and satellite television service
and can be viewed by U.S. military personnel located
on U.S. bases and installations outside of the U.S.,
including on ships at sea.
“Without the ongoing support of the PBA, other sport
leagues and various contributors of televised content
in all genres, our nation's troops would not be able to
watch quality programming from home while serving
their nation abroad,” said AFN spokesman Andy
Scott.
QUICK NOTES
● PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber will be inducted
into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame tonight in St.
Charles, Mo., joining his legendary father Dick

ing the PBA and USBC halls, to honor the father-son
duo.
● Detroit’s Aleta Sill, the first career millionaire in
women’s professional bowling, will be inducted into
the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame on February 12 in
Detroit along with newly-retired New York Yankees

acronym PBA60 for use in designating “super sen-
ior” competition in the future. The new terminology
will apply to events, awards or programs associated
with PBA players who are ages 60 and older, just as
PBA50 applies to activities for players ages 50 and
older. The new PBA60 designation can be used
immediately, but will become an official part of the
PBA terminology effective with the start of the 2015
season on January 1.
● Admission will be free, and no tickets will be nec-
essary, for the live PBA World Championship finals
