Thank you for your continued generosity!

Jesus tells us to be vigilant. Today marks the beginning of Advent, the great liturgical season of vigilance, of waiting, and watching. Let’s get ready with joy and anticipation, even if it involves some work on our part. Spend some time in the presence

of the Lord. As you keep vigil before the Blessed Sacrament, bring to Christ some problem or

dilemma that you have been fretting over, and then say: “Lord, I’m waiting for you to solve this, to

show me the way out, the way forward. I’ve been running, planning, worrying, but now I’m

going to let you work.” ~ Word on Fire

December 7th, is First Friday. Masses are 7:30 & 8:30 a.m. Also, please plan to spend some time with Jesus in the Adoration Chapel. If you have signed up for an hour

please remember to be there. A sign up sheet is available in the lobby of the Adoration Chapel. In 1673, a French Visitandine (Visitation) nun named Margaret Mary Alacoque had visions of Je-sus, wherein He asked the Church to honor His Most Sacred Heart. In particular, Jesus asked the faithful to “receive Communion on the First Fri-days, for nine consecutive months.” The request was connected to a specific promise made to all who venerated and promoted devotion to the Sacred Heart. Attendance at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is assuredly the best means of honoring and loving the adorable Heart of Jesus.

Our Advent Wreaths will be blessed this week. You can use this blessing for your own wreath at home: “Father of all creation, bless this evergreen wreath and candles. Let the green be a sign of the everlasting life we find in Christ. Let the wreath remind us of

hopeful longing and faithful promise fulfilled in Je-sus’ birth.” Light the first purple candle. Called the prophecy candle, it is to remind us of the period of joyful waiting for the coming of the Savior.

Prayer for Hope

It is you, O Lord, who are my hope, My trust, O Lord, since my youth.

On you I have leaned from my birth, From my mother’s womb you have been my help.

My hope has always been in you. When my strength fails do not forsake me.

But be my hope, through Jesus Christ our Lord, The Promised Hope of all the world.

Amen.

Please note that when you or your loved one is admitted into the hospital we are not aware of this fact. If you or your loved one would like to be visited by a

Priest please call the Parish Office to inform us and give us the person’s name and room number.

We will do our best to get a Priest to see you or your loved one as soon as possible.

Advent is a period for devout and joyful expectation. Moderation should be observed in

the decoration of the Altar and should

not overshadow the joy of Christmas. There will be no Altar Flowers during the

Advent Season as we await the coming of the Christ Child!

We want to thank all our Parishioners who have given their generous donations of Altar Flowers each week.

Also a big thank you to Flower Mart in Jupiter (561) 747-6659, for their beautiful altar flower arrangements

and holiday florals.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

Many of us have treasured stories involving Religious Sisters, Brothers and Priests who impacted our lives and gave of themselves so generously out of love for us and the Church. These dedicated religious women and men of faith responded enthusiastically to Jesus Christ and gave of themselves in joyful ser-vice.

Though age and infirmity have caused many to retire from active ministry, these holy women and men continue to offer their lives in prayer for us eve-ry day. From their sanctuaries of holiness, they con-tinue to live their vocation of service to Jesus Christ and His Church.

As grateful members of the faithful, we are invited to participate in a special collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious on the weekend of De-cember 8 and 9, to assist nearly 31,000 retired reli-gious women and men. Through our prayers and fi-nancial support we can walk with these dedicated women and men of faith as they live out the final chapter in their story of faith and service.

Thank you for all that you do for our retired religious women and men, for your prayers, your friendship. Your love and your generosity. May God bless you with every grace and strength and may our Blessed Mother always intercede for you.

With gratitude for your continued generosity and every prayerful wish, I am

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito

DO NOT PARK IN THE ST. JUDE CHURCH “FIRE LANES”

Parking in the “Fire lanes” around the church can make it difficult for large emergency vehicles to make the turns necessary to access the closest door to

treat a patient or to leave the church to get to a hospital. Fire lanes were developed for matters where minutes can make a difference to a life. Please be considerate of your fellow worshipers and park in designated areas, and NOT in the “Fire Lanes”. Thank you!

By prayerfully responding to God’s love and call, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and Lectors are visible signs of faith, hope and love to all Parish-ioners and witnesses to Christ’s love.

We find that we are always short in off season months. So those of you who live here year round, your time and talent are presently needed to help serve the Lord.

If you are interested please call the Parish office and speak with either Mary or Janet. 561-746-7974.

Are you interested in becoming a

Catechism Question ~ The Morality of the PassionsCatechism Question ~ The Morality of the PassionsCatechism Question ~ The Morality of the Passions

371. Are the passions morally good or bad?

The passions insofar as they are movements of the sensible appetite are neither good nor bad in themselves. They are good when they contribute to a good action and they are evil in the oppo-site case. They can be taken up into the virtues or perverted by the vices.

Week 37

Gabriel is absorbing about a gallon of amniotic fluid per day. He is now receiving valuable

antibodies from mom to fight off infections. Fat is deposited in Gabriel’s cheeks this week, and the muscles that help Gabriel suck are helping to fill Gabriel’s little face. Gabriel is about 6

pounds and over 20 inches in length.

I’m still eating leftovers from Thanksgiving. I’m a little plump, but I’m ready for my first picture.

Mom is probably seeing the doctor every week now.

“Welcome one another, then as Christ, welcomed you, for the glory of God.” (Romans 15:7)

Jesus in the womb of Mary and leapt for joy. This Advent season may we recognize Jesus as our Savior and be open to his Joy, peace, and love.

Feast Day ~ December 8thFeast Day ~ December 8th

Virgin most holy and immaculate, To you, the honor of our people, and the loving protector of our city,

do we turn with loving trust.

You are all-beautiful, O Mary! In you there is no sin.

Awaken in all of us a renewed desire for holiness: May the splendor of truth shine forth in our words,

The song of charity resound in our works, Purity and chastity abide in our hearts and bodies,

And the full beauty of the Gospel be evident in our lives.

You are all-beautiful, O Mary! In you the Word of God became flesh.

Help us always to heed the Lord’s voice: May we never be indifferent to the cry of the poor,

Or untouched by the sufferings of the sick and those in need; May we be sensitive to the loneliness of the elderly and

The vulnerability of children, And always love and cherish the life of every human being.

You are all-beautiful, O Mary!

In you is the fullness of joy born of life with God.

Help us never to forget the meaning of our earthly journey: May the kindly light of faith illumine our days, The comforting power of hope direct our steps, The contagious warmth of love stir our hearts;

And may our gaze be fixed on God, in whom true joy is found.

You are all-beautiful, O Mary! Hear our prayer, graciously hear our plea:

May the beauty of God’s merciful love in Jesus abide in our hearts,

And may this divine beauty save us, our city and the entire world. Amen

~ Pope Francis on December 8, 2013, Rome

The Advent season brings with it a number of joys, expectations and opportunities to celebrate. It also brings with it crass consumerism, exploitation of the true meaning of Christmas and an opportunity for self-indulgence. We should be careful, this holiday season, to truly celebrate the most monumental moment in human history ~ the Incarnation of Christ.

Advent is a season of preparation for the birth of the Lord. Just as the Israelites awaited the birth of the Messiah for generations, so we await the coming of our king ~ Jesus. Many Israelites waited to see the Anointed One who would be crowned king and save them from captivity. But, the day never arrived during their earthly life, because Christ brought a spiritual kingdom. We, on the other hand, have been blessed to live in this Kingdom of God! The age of the Church. So, our anticipation of salvation must be re-lived eve-ry year as a commemoration of Christ becoming man.

While spending time with friends and family is a good thing, for Catholics the season of Advent is not all about celebrating. Advent is an opportunity to make the spiritual preparation for God-becoming-man a sacred opportunity to grow in faith, hope, and love. We need to stop, which is difficult in our busyness, and reflect on the fact that the supreme being, the omnipotent One, the Alpha and Omega, the Lion of Judah, the Morningstar, the Messiah, King, and our Lord and Savior humbled Himself to take on our fallen nature in order that he might save us all.

Below are some ways in which we might turn this season into one of hopeful preparation and penance. Advent season is a penitential one, but the Joy that accompanies it is the expectation of Christ’s birth.

1) Pray throughout the season. This is the most im-portant part of making the season truly sacred. Use an Advent devotional to help as a daily prayer guide. Of course, the Eucharist and the Mass should be the cen-ter of any prayer life. Pray the Mass with so much love that Mass becomes the center of our lives. Thus, we have the word, “Christ-Mass.”

2) Give yourself as a gift to the less fortunate. There are ample opportunities to serve those less fortunate than ourselves. Spend an afternoon at a shelter or food bank. Help St. Vincent de Paul distribute food and gifts. Visit the elderly or sick in a nursing home. These are the kind of gifts that require true sacrifice, but also have an eternal reward.

3) Try to spread the real meaning of the season. We wait to fully celebrate Christmas after Advent is over. Send religious Christmas cards so others will truly know why we celebrate Christmas. If you have a manger scene at home, don’t put Jesus into it until the morning of Christmas. Place a manger scene in your front yard before the lights go up! Allow yourself to slow down. Try not to rush through Advent in order to “get to the good stuff” of Christ-mas. Whatever you do to make Advent a special time of preparation, remember that nothing is as important as nurturing the relationship you have with Jesus.

Devotions to Our Blessed MotherDevotions to Our Blessed MotherDevotions to Our Blessed Mother

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary,

at midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold.

In that hour vouchsafe, I beseech Thee, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires,

{here mention your request}

through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.

(Starting on St. Andrew’s Feast Day, November 30, this beautiful prayer is traditionally recited 15 times a day until Christmas. This is a very meditative prayer that helps us increase our awareness of the real focus of

Christmas and helps us prepare ourselves spiritually for His coming.)
