MESSAGE FROM THE POTENTATEIllustrious Sir, Gerry Massey

Nobles and Ladies, as many of you willnotice, this year we have decided to make a little format change to

the ‘Tales. This will be the “Year in Pictures” issue instead of the January issue. It only seems appropriate and we hope you like this little change.Lady Janet and I appreciate all of the love and support we

have received over the past five years in general, but this year in particular. Between the Divan, our Chiefs of Staff, all of our Staff, and the Nobles and Ladies, you all have made this year one to remember. Yes, we have had a few ups and downs, but whatever happened, we learned from it and made the best of it. The El Zaribah Family (including DON, LOS and Hunter’s Paradise #85) is the best around and we are proud to be a part of it.One of the biggest lessons I learned this year is that you cannot

please everyone. Just as long as each of you knows that everything we did and every decision we made, was with our

Shrine Kids’ and El Zaribah’s best interests in mind and in our hearts. Please look through this magazine and remember fondly the laughs, smiles and

good times we all shared this year. As I look through it, I will most likely hear Ill Sir Leo’s voice reciting “My Old Red Fez” as I turn from one page to the next reminding “me of the joys that once were mine”. Because within these pages are pictures and stories that are “woven the friendship of many a year.” As I see these pictures I know “happiness will indeed be mine, as oft as I think of the Mystic Shrine. Finally, I need to specifically thank three people who have really helped keep

me on track this year. Keith and Teresa have been not only the best friends I can ask for, but the best Chief of Staff and “Cruise Director” we could have asked for. Usually behind the scenes, but always finding solutions and making it happen. Of course, I have to save the best for last; Lady Janet. She has been my best friend and “Battle Buddy” since our days in Iraq. I could not ask for a better partner to go through all of this with. She has always had my back and keeps me on track. For that, I will forever be grateful. Thank you, Honey. I love you. And for the rest of you...“Here’s to the red fez and the men who wore it! May love and

loyalty ever adorn it; May the sun of good fellowship eternally shine in the hearts of the men of the Mystic Shrine!”Fraternally,Gerry

Arabian Tales Volume 32 – Issue #9 Clinics / Donations

I can’t believe another Shrine year is coming to a close. It seems like just yesterday when Illustrious Sir Gerry and Lady Janet were taking the reins for 2014. It has been a great year, particularly from a Hospital Clinic stand point. We completed eight very successful Outreach Clinics and the Maricopa Medical Center. This could not have been possible without the unselfish efforts of all of our volunteers. Our Hospital Volunteers hardly ever get recognized or thanked, but they are also there, every clinic, giving their best. They truly live up to our Shrine Hospital motto – Love to the Rescue. Thank you to all of our volunteers.

I would also like to give an early thank you to those who will be volunteering at the Hospital Patient Christmas Party. This is always a great event and I know that this year will be no exception. Illustrious Sir Phil and Lady Ronda Houghton started this event in 2010 and we have patients that look forward to this party every year with great expectations. Thanks to all for making this party such a special day for our patients.

Together we can make a difference in our Shrine Kids lives.Fraternally, Jim Miller, PP Hospital Chairman
