NAMI Broward County provides support, education, and outreach programs to our County. Funds raised at the event allow NAMI Broward to provide every service Free to the mental health community. This year’s 7 th annual 5K walk will take place on Saturday, November 9 th and kicks off at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek at 9:30 am. Registration starts at 8:00 am.     Our Mission at H.O.P.E. Is to connect and inspire people living with mental illness

    from age 18-35. We connect by getting together to enjoy

    About Dr. Rey Jose A. Rey, M.S., Pharm.D, BCPP, is a Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), College of Pharmacy, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He is currently the clinical psychopharmacologist for the South

    Florida State Hospital and the Director for the NSU-COP PGY-2 Residency in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice.

    BSO provides a dedicated phone line for families to provide information on their loved ones.

    In ongoing talks with the Broward Sheriff’s’ Office (BSO) and NAMI Broward County; BSO unveiled a Mental Health Call in line which allows for family members of those detained in the BSO jail facilities and suffering from mental illness to call into the jail to provide relevant information on their loved ones.

    The phone line is a resource for families to provide the jail medical provider additional information regarding a detainee’s mental health diagnosis and medications. Please call 954-831-5428 and follow the

    prompts to provide mental health information.

    IN A CRISIS

    Mobile Crisis Team Numbers:

    Mobile Crisis will go out into the community/home

    and assess the situation. They may recommend

    community resources or, if they feel that there is a

    danger to self or others, they may determine that

    the individual needs to be Baker Acted, if that is the

    case, they will call the police to transport the

    individual to the closest Baker Act receiving

    hospital.

    If you find that the situation has escalated to a

    point of crisis, call 911, describe your situation and

    ask for a CIT trained officer. Crisis Intervention

    Trained is a week-long training developed

    nationally by NAMI and the police to improve

    responses to people in crisis. Many local officers

    have participated in this training.
