Welcome to the 2019 NAMIWalks!
Hundreds of thousands of people have taken the challenge to become NAMIWalks Heroes - WHY NOT MAKE 2019 YOUR
YEAR?? Last year, more than 1600 people joined NAMI Broward County as we celebrate recovery, promote awareness and fight discrimination. This year we A$K you to take the challenge to unite with us and Walk for the thousands of Broward
County residents impacted by mental illness each year. Let us show them they are NOT alone. NAMI Broward County provides support, education, and outreach programs to our County. Funds raised at the event allow NAMI Broward to
provide every service Free to the mental health community.
This year’s 7th annual 5K walk will take place on Saturday, November 9th and kicks off at Tradewinds Park in
Coconut Creek at 9:30 am. Registration starts at 8:00 am.
Become a Walk Star
Become a Walk Star this year by raising $1,000 or more. Most importantly—you will be part of an elite group, funding nearly half of NAMI Broward County support services and programs!
If you need help fundraising, just A$K!! Remember, it's all about getting personal.
1.When you ask for a donation, tell why NAMI Broward and mental health are important to you.
2. Set a goal to recruit 10 new donors in the first week of your campaign! Send a text to everyone in your contact list. Now is the time to start engaging people on this journey you’re embarking on.
3. Post about your NAMIWalks Broward Page on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and ask your network to support you with a donation. Always include the link to your fundraising page with each post.
NAMIWalks Broward is a fun, family and, dog friendly event and an excellent way to let your voice be heard!

NAMIWalks Team Captains Kick-Off Luncheon
You have what it takes to become a Team Captain for NAMIWalks Broward! Join Broward’s only grassroots non-profit support and awareness organization for mental illness. NAMIWalks Team Captains are the reason why we served nearly 5,000 individuals and families last year! NAMIWalks Team Captains, Sponsors and interested volunteers are invited to our annual NAMIWalks Kick-off Luncheon on Thursday, Sept 5, at 11:30 a.m. Enjoy complimentary lunch, network with Team Captains and sponsors, and learn how YOU can make a difference with NAMIWalks Broward County! Hear about mental Health in Broward from our two keynote speakers, our Walk Ambassadors, Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony and Chief Public Defender Howard Finkelstein.

Our Mission at H.O.P.E. Is to connect and inspire people living with mental illness
from age 18-35. We connect by getting together to enjoy
social out.We have social events planned each month in
Broward County.

About Dr. Rey Jose A. Rey, M.S., Pharm.D, BCPP, is a Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), College of Pharmacy, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He is currently the clinical psychopharmacologist for the South
Florida State Hospital and the Director for the NSU-COP PGY-2 Residency in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice.

BSO provides a dedicated phone line for families to provide information on their loved ones.
In ongoing talks with the Broward Sheriff’s’ Office (BSO) and NAMI Broward County; BSO unveiled a Mental Health Call in line which allows for family members of those detained in the BSO jail facilities and suffering from mental illness to call into the jail to provide relevant information on their loved ones.
The phone line is a resource for families to provide the jail medical provider additional information regarding a detainee’s mental health diagnosis and medications. Please call 954-831-5428 and follow the
prompts to provide mental health information.

IN A CRISIS
Mobile Crisis Team Numbers:
Mobile Crisis will go out into the community/home
and assess the situation. They may recommend
community resources or, if they feel that there is a
danger to self or others, they may determine that
the individual needs to be Baker Acted, if that is the
case, they will call the police to transport the
individual to the closest Baker Act receiving
hospital.

Calling 911:
If you find that the situation has escalated to a
point of crisis, call 911, describe your situation and
ask for a CIT trained officer. Crisis Intervention
Trained is a week-long training developed
nationally by NAMI and the police to improve
responses to people in crisis. Many local officers
have participated in this training.
