Prettyboy Elementary School Library Gift Fund

Hey, Hey Parents!!!! Your child will soon be celebrating a birthday; a special occasion for your child and family. A contribution to the Prettyboy Elementary School Library Gift Fund is a unique and meaningful way to recognize this happy day. A donation of $25 or more will purchase a book chosen to benefit the school library and help to make it a well-rounded collection. The book will have a bookplate affixed and will be inscribed with your child’s name and personal message. Your child will be the first to borrow the book from the library. Such a gift creates a lasting tribute and gives your child a great sense of pride as he/she, friends and siblings open this book to find the inscription. The Library Gift Fund can also be used to commemorate other occasions – teacher appreciation, get well wishes, acknowledgement of special achievements, graduation, holiday greetings, or just because. All donations are welcomed and the name of your child or other recipient will be included in the school newsletter. Please note, however, this is a purely voluntary program and you are under no obligation to participate.

Please be on the lookout for the Prettyboy Library Gift Fund letter coming home with your child during their birthday month. Electronic copies are also available on the school library website link below.

Turn to The Next Chapter in Learning

Follett eBooks open up new possibilities for learning. They can turn a digital tool into a library. EBooks provide a novel, powerful approach to reach our students. They help you engage students in reading and comprehension exercises, boost their interest in new topics, and provide real life examples of lessons, both in the library and the classroom. We are bringing eBooks into our school to bring more lessons to life.

Counselor’s Corner December 2014

Dear Prettyboy Families and Students, November seemed to fly by! Students practiced communicating feelings and ideas, learned coping skills for dealing with problems, learned techniques for managing stress and conflict, recognized, accepted, respected, and appreciated individual differences, and identified personal short and long term goals for their lives. It’s wonderful to see how enthusiastic the students are to work with others as they learn. In December, classroom guidance lessons will focus on developing empathy. Students will listen to a short story about having empathy for others and identify ways in which they can show how they care about others. December can be a very busy month. As you enjoy some fun extra activities throughout the month, please continue to do your best to make sure that your child(ren) are prepared for the school day with their homework assignments and plenty of rest. The next school spirit day this year will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd. It’s Flannel Bottoms Day! It has been such a privilege for me to be the long-term substitute for Mrs.Pappas while she was on her maternity leave. The students at PBES are so very special! I have enjoyed getting to know so many of them! Mrs.Pappas will be returning to PBES on Friday, December 19th! Again, please feel free to contact me by calling the school or emailing me at [email protected] through December 18th. Beginning December 19th, you can contact Mrs.Pappas at [email protected]. Enjoy these fun December days! Have a safe Winter Break! Sincerely, Mrs. Stewart

The IDENT-A-KID Child Safety Program will be at our school on {02/18/2015} to PHOTOGRAPH, FINGERPRINT, WEIGH and MEASURE children. Unlike a student ID that is carried by the student, Ident-A-Kid ID cards are carried by all parents and caregivers in their wallet and on the cell phone.

Our ID card is recognized by the U.S. Government’s SSA as a form of identification. ID cards are often needed for sports registration, travel, student discounts, and in emergencies. To participate, please fill in the Application Envelope which will come home with your child and have your child return it to school. Applications are also available on line at www.identakid.com.

Participation in the program is at the individual Parents’ option. The cost per child is $8 for one card, $10 for two cards, or $13 for three cards. An eKid ID is the electronic Ident-A-Kid card sent to your cell phone via text/picture message and is included when ordering multiple cards of the same child.

Please feel free to contact your local program director, Donna Aversa-Smith at [email protected] or at (443) 275-1543, with any questions.

Safety Update

Effective 12/10/14 parents will receive an automated call from Prettyboy ES letting you know your child was absent. Please continue to send in notes explaining their absence. Thank you.
