Dear Members: As the newsletter goes to press, there are only 24 shopping days until Christmas – The adage, “Time Flies When You’re Having Fun” certainly applies. On behalf of the entire staff, our sincerest thanks to all for providing us the opportunity to be part of your lives during your visits to the club. We are also very grateful for your generosity in supporting the Holiday Fund as well as contributing to the food drive allowing many less fortunate families a bountiful Thanksgiving meal. As the end of the year is upon us, a certain amount of retrospect and review is a good exercise to measure successes and opportunities for the upcoming year. Throughout the newsletter, you will notice in Megan and Gil’s articles specifically, a brief recap of Membership growth and upcoming projects for the golf course. In other areas of the club, we did see an increase in total rounds of 10% over prior year. Most of the growth was guest and tournament play. Food and Beverage also experienced the same percentage of growth as we increased the opportunity for Private Events. There were two significant Capital Projects completed in 2015: The 2 new Tennis Courts and the Pond installation between holes 4 and 5. In addition, several smaller facility improvements and enhancement were completed. A number of these projects were accomplished in concert with members investing their time and talents. As noted in the Board minutes, ownership and I are continuing to develop a strategic plan regarding additional capital projects in general and long term growth opportunities and return on investments. As I shared at the Annual Meeting in April, the investments are directly attributed to the operational success of club operations. For 2016, the most significant investment to date will be the acquisition of a new cart fleet. We anticipate arrival in February. At this time, we are evaluating and negotiating with the 3 major vendors. I anticipate sharing specific details in the next 30 days. We look forward to seeing you at the club during a busy holiday schedule at the club and I want to wish all of you a very healthy, happy and prosperous Holiday Season. Regards, Garry

Concerning the Advisory Board Well, this is it, December, the dénouement of the year. As our little bubble of life hurtles through space at over 67,000 miles an hour towards the cold dark abyss of the shortest day, we prepare to celebrate the tail end of the year as a happy ending to the story that was 2015. Many of us will celebrate Christmas, others will celebrate Hanukkah. There are those that will celebrate Kwanzaa. A few may celebrate Yalda and others the Winter Solstice. Seinfeld fans may celebrate Festivus. Personally, being an equal opportunity party animal, wine lover and Club booster, my suggestion is that we celebrate all of these holidays and do so by grabbing a whole squadron of friends to have dinner and drinks at the club.

NEWS FLASH: The club has got all kinds of special events planned for the holiday season!! Check out the details in this Newsletter.

The old saying is that it is better to give than to receive. And this is the season for gift giving. Of course, if I had it in my power, the gifts that I most would like to give are peace and prosperity to all, health and happiness for everyone, patience and tolerance by all and goodwill as the basis of all human intercourse. Alas, I don’t think I have the proper ribbons and paper to wrap up that package and place it under the tree.

But I will do my part by supporting some local charities, gifting some needy children on the Angel Tree at the Club, and bringing in new unwrapped toys to support Toys for Tots. I will try to spend time with friends and family to warm and strengthen our human bonds and I will smile at strangers to make them feel welcome. Bell ringing Santas will be happy to see me coming at the local shopping mall. In short, we all just need to be creative and on the lookout for opportunities to make this world a little bit better. If we all just give of ourselves, and there are many millions of us, think of how powerful that cumulative gift will be.

Importantly, please keep the club at the center of your social life throughout the holiday season and take advantage of the restaurant to free up your time for more important things like Christmas shopping (especially if you are shopping for me!). [I keep repeating this line, about shopping for me, but don’t seem to be getting much traction.] And, do promote the Club to your non-member neighbors: Let them know you want them to be part of your social world.

On the business end, click here for the link to the November Advisory Board meeting minutes, http://picachohillscc.com/golf/emailer2020/img/picachohillscc/PHCC_-_2015_-_Nov_Board_Minutes.pdf ,so you can see for yourself what the topics of discussion and resolutions were. Comfort and Joy,

Golf Pro Note

November was a nice month for golf with cool mornings and warm afternoons. We had only one tournament which was the annual Sweet and Sour Tournament. We had a great turnout and Henry and Javier put out a great buffet after play. This month we have 2 tournaments. The Senior Club Championship will be played on the 5th and 6th and the annual Christmas Surprise will be played on Saturday the 12th. See below for details. Myself and all the guys would like to wish everyone a great holiday season and a happy new year in 2016. Fairways and greens, Jim Nodurft, PGA

TJ’s Tips

Match Play

In this month’s tip I will explain match play and why it can be beneficial to your game. The game of Match play is a scoring system for golf in which a player, or team, earns a point for each hole in which they have scored better than their opponents. So in short it doesn’t matter how many strokes your opponent beats you by because you only lose the one hole. The b e n e f i t s i n c l u d e competitive matches in which you can identify how many holes your opponent beats you during a round and also allows you to recover after bad holes. I think the biggest benefit is it allows you to play a more aggressive style of play because it allows you to make mistakes and not give up four or five strokes to your opponent. So if you haven’t tried match play yet, it might be time to give it a shot.

Have fun and play well!!!

Greetings Members,

Colder weather has arrived and the chance of frost delaying your early morning tee time is becoming more common. Updates are given to the Golf Pro, General Manager and Pro Shop staff starting at 6:30 AM daily. Updates continue every half hour until a firm start time is established. Information on delays and start times can be found on the PHCC website. I also recommend viewing a video that will be posted by the General Manager from the USGA on reasoning behind frost delays.

Current Golf Grounds projects:

* Clean up of desert native areas. This will be followed up with pre-emergent herbicides to limit the growth of new weeds.

* Yardage marker painting, repositioning and replacing. * Mapping the golf course and identify typical trouble areas associated with

fungal patterns, thatch areas, heavier Bermuda areas and dry or wet areas. This has allowed us to utilize our resources to the fullest potential.

* Adding drainage to #3, #6, #10, and #12.

*Winter Planting Tip: Out with the old and in with the new.

As seasons change so do many of the plants we have around our homes and club. During the colder months, winter annuals such as pansies and violas accompanied with ornamental cabbage or kale add wonderful color to our outdoor beds and pots while braving the frigid temperatures. Easy and inexpensive to maintain this option provides stunning eye popping color. Thank you and have a wonder holiday.

Always Greenside Up,

Gil Martinez, GCSAA (A)

Dear Members, The highlight of the month of November was “Battle of The Clubs” event organized by our tennis association. I officiated in the event and saw some really good tennis. You can see from the photos how members of our club had a blast playing in this event. Tennis Court Reservation System: Did you know that you could reserve tennis courts online? It is simple, easy and quick. Visit www.picachohillstennis.com to find out. Did you know that we are organizing monthly Saturday Night Tennis and Pickleball social? To stay up-to-date on current information from us, make sure you’re on our mailing list. Contact Krishn today at [email protected] to be added to our list. Finally, Here’s some innovative programming we have for our members. Please reach out to Krishn with any and all questions related to tennis and pickleball. THE LESSONS CLUB: Do you want to take your game to the next level this year? Build up endurance for those long three set matches? Learn how to be a wall up at the net? Here’s how: · Hit the courts: Tennis lessons club is a one month intensive development program. · Take it to the next level: 6 one hour one-on-one lessons a month. · Convenient scheduling: Schedule lessons between 8 am and 9 pm on weekdays. Chances are, there's a time open

on my schedule that works for you. · Versatility: You can join this program for hitting lessons or to develop your game with the help of a certified coach

with years of experience. This is a great way to increase your on court endurance; or to make it an instructional lesson.

· Great for Juniors: This is a great supplement to your child's game as well. They can improve their game here and put it in practice in our summer camps and fall/winter after school clinics.

· Fee: $210. BEAT THE PRO · Beat the Pro is a three-player lesson group with a “new” twist · Beat the Pro requires three players of compatible level and the pro for a commitment of eight, one and one-half

hour sessions. The first 45 minutes is devoted to instruction and drill. For the remaining 45 minutes, each player plays with the pro for 15 minutes and against the pro for 30 minutes. Points are earned for each game won against the pro. At the conclusion of the eight weeks, a Beat the Pro Tennis Award certificate is presented to the player achieving the most points. Organize your own group or ask us to set up a group for you. Standard three-student lesson rates apply. To get started, Contact Krishn Panchal at 516-558-0497 or [email protected]

· Fee: $120 per player. The program has to be completed within 90 days of the first lesson. THE CONSISTENCY CLUB:

Hit with our pro in a private lesson and see if you can hit 100, 200 or 500 balls in a row from the baseline. Earn your spot on our Board of Achievers in the clubhouse when you reach a milestone.

· Fee: $55/hour.

The Picacho Hills Country Club family grew by an additional four new Memberships in November.

As we welcome our newest Members into the family, we also gather to reflect on 2015.

PHCC enrolled 54 Memberships (to-date of publication), growing our family by an estimated 111 Members. We grew our Summer Membership by four this year extending privileges to an additional 52 Members this season.

Seven of the 54 Memberships, or less than 15%, were sponsored into Membership. Interviewing our newest Members I learned that most, nearly 92%, joined the country club to meet new people. 75% of these new enrollees, or 40 out of 54, said they moved to Las Cruces, whether a relocation for work or for retirement, less than 12 months prior to enrollment. Less than 10% of new Memberships said they enrolled as a strategy to grow their business.

OUR NEWEST MEMBERS JOIN TO BUILD FRIENDSHIPS AND GROW COMMUNITY

Whether you’re looking to meet new people, spend time with family and friends, or grow your business, Picacho Hills Country Club is where connections happen.

In 2015 PHCC hosted many events to connect Members. We hosted our traditional Member-Guest golf tournaments, and we also created new events like the Divorce Open and War on the Hill.

With leadership from the Picacho Hills Tennis Association and Krishn Panchal, Saturday Night Fever was created to bring tennis and pickle ball players to the courts for a fun, monthly social.

Membership donated food for more than 20 families through a Thanksgiving food drive, and I hear PHCC Members have been the linchpin in organizing The Village project for Picacho Hills.

As you gather with family, friends, and neighbors this Holiday season consider sharing the Gift of Membership. It is a gift which gives year round.

To all Members in good standing we are extending a preferred Holiday Offer of Membership in your name. In the coming days you will receive a personalized gift card, mailed to you by the USPS, to share with someone special. Who will you sponsor into Membership at Picacho Hills Country Club?
