So they lay in bed and sang Christmas carols, in hopes that it would feel more like Christmas and it helped. I am not positive, but I think that Christmas in 2020 will probably seem much different from the Christmases of recent memory. There will more than likely be fewer and smaller gatherings of all sorts to celebrate Christmas this year. Some folks might even say, 'it hardly feels like Christmas' for all of the activities that seem to be scaled back, especially children's programs, less folks at family gatherings, caroling, and concerts. And it may not feel like it has in years past, but do not loose heart. Be careful keep your head in the game. The feeling of Christmas may not seem to be as present as usual, but the message of Christmas remains the same. God came to live among us. God took on human flesh to be one of us. God acted in amazing ways in multiple places throughout the Christmas story. God was fulfilling promises and words spoken by prophets down through the ages in the birth of this child, Jesus. Way, way back God spoke to Abram, "Go ... to a land which I will show you. And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great. You will be a blessing. Those who bless you, I will bless and those who curse you, I will curse. And through you all the nations of the earth will be blessed." (Genesis 12:1-3) God promised to bless 'all the nations of the earth.' As Christians, we recognize that Jesus was fulfiller of that promise of God. As we approach Christmas Day, I hope that you pull out your Bible, read, and reread the story of Jesus' coming. There was the account of angel Gabriel coming to young Mary to inform her that she had been selected to carry a son that was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Jesus was "reign over the house of Jacob forever and his kingdom would have no end.'' (Lk. 1:33) And lo and behold, Mary did conceive the baby who was to be named Jesus. God did a physical miracle. Mary was pregnant. Joseph could see that, but he did not believe that it was an act of God, rather of unfaithfulness on Mary’s part, so he prepared to end the engagement. God was not done yet. Joseph’s mind was the place of the next God event. In a dream an angel came to Joseph and said, “Do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for what is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 1:20) Joseph awoke with new understanding and took Mary for his wife. You probably remember that in Christmas programs there is often that piece from the prophet Micah in chapter five that foretells that one from Bethlehem would come to be ruler in Israel. How did that come about when Mary and Joseph lived in the village of Nazareth? Somewhere in the Bible it says that rulers are like water in the hand of God. So way off in Rome Caesar insists that there is to be a census and folks are required to return to the home town of their ancestor David to be signed up. (Luke 2:1-4) God keeps his word and Jesus is born in Bethlehem. Office Hours Monday - Friday 8:00 am - noon 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm

The mission of our congregation is to multiply and equip the children of God’s household!

Many years ago I remember a Christmas Eve when a young couple had turned in for the night following the children's Christmas program at their congregation and the husband said to his young wife, 'that the program hardly seemed like a Christmas program because the program included lots of new songs of Christmas that no one had ever heard before. Now there are numerous more events that God orchestrated in and around the birth of Jesus including: the angelic announcement to the shepherds, the star that the wise men followed, a couple more dreams that kept that murderous Herod from killing baby Jesus (Matthew 2), and prophetic utterances over Jesus in the temple (Luke 2). God was working out His plan to bring salvation to this world through his one and only son, Jesus, the one born to die and rise from the dead.

That is the message of Christmas is the same. That is the truth of Christmas. That is the hope of Christmas. Nothing will change this message of truth and hope. It may not feel like Christmas, but everyday we can live with hope because of the message of Christmas. Paul wrote to the Galatians churches, "In the fullness of time, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law." (Galatians 4:4) From what I understand 'the fullness of time' means at just the right time. When Jesus came on the scene things were just as God intended them to be.

The events surrounding Christmas 2020 may not be how we would like them to feel, but God's story and our hope in Jesus is still the same yesterday, today, and forever. There is no doubt that God knows just what going on and God has plans for our good. Read the story, sing the carols, praise the Lord of Christmas, and pray for the reason for the season, Jesus, to fill your heart and mind with lasting joy.

Reservations for Christmas Eve

This year will be unique in our celebration of the birth of Christ. COVID-19 has made planning for

Christmas Eve a bit more challenging. With the proclamations made by Governor Kim Reynolds, we

will be adding addition services for Christmas Eve. Services will be held on December 24th at 3:00, 5:00

& 7:00 pm (new) in the church sanctuary with services at 5:00 (new) & 7:00 pm at the barn.

(Griffin Farm - 1899 Mission Ave, New Hampton).

However, we will be taking reservations for these services. We want to make everyone that attends these services

to feel comfortable and safe. At the church, we will follow the guidelines of 50% capacity with allowing 150 people

per service and 50 people at the barn. We will be offering a live stream service on the Trinity Lutheran - New Hampton

- YouTube at 5:00 pm.

The reservation sign-up in the Narthex will start on December 1 thru the 23rd. We will ask you to put down your

name at the appropriate time that you plan to attend and a count of how many will be in your group. It is important that

you correctly add the number attending as seating is limited. Members of the same household may sit together. Families

in different households practice social distancing if possible. Masks are required and are available upon entering the

narthex along with hand sanitizer. Please sanitize hands both before and after worship. Communion will be distributed

at the church service using individual prepackaged communion. Sanitizing the church and other areas will be done

between services.

If you are unable to sign-up at the church, we ask you to please call the office for your reservation by December

23rd. (641-394-2552) or email your information to [email protected].

We are asking for volunteers to help before, during and after services to help with hospitality, ushering, sanitizing and

preparations. Call the office and let us know if you can help and what service you will be available to volunteer.

Christmas Cards Would you like to help spread Christmas

cheer? We are asking our LIGHT

children to work at home to draw

Christmas pictures or make Christmas

cards that will be sent to our church

members who are home bound or self

isolating. Look for an e-mail with a

card template and more details. This is

a great way to safely spread the

Christmas cheer!

Christmas Video

This year we are going to make a

Christmas video featuring our

families. Here are the ways you can

participate. We ask that you make a

video of your child (and your family,

if you wish) and submit it to

[email protected]. This clip

should be kept brief, as we are going

to be putting them all together into

one video. Your video may be a

Christmas greeting with your whole

family wishing everyone a Merry

Christmas. Or maybe you want it to

be a video of your child reading

aloud part of the Christmas story?

For young children, it may be fun to

record them answering some

questions about the Christmas Story.

Please submit your video clips via e-

mail by December 2 so that we may

have time to put all the clips

together and edit the video. Once it

is completed, we will share it out

with our members. We are so

excited to see what our families and

LIGHT children come up with!

2021 Offering Envelopes Will Be Ready To Be Picked Up! Please be sure to stop at the tables in the Narthex and pick up your offering envelopes for the New Year. If you don’t find your envelopes, please sign the sheet on the tables or let the office know and we will make sure you get a set. The offering envelopes provide a space for giving to the General Fund, Benevolence Fund, Property Improvement Fund and “Special Fund”. Please be sure to mark your envelope or check so that we know which fund or funds you would like your offering to be given. If you want your gift to go to a fund other than the three listed, use the “Special Fund” and be sure to write the name of the fund. (Examples: World Hunger, Building Repair Projects, Youth, etc.). If an envelope or check is not marked, 80% is given to the General Fund and 20% to Synod Benevolence. For those of you who prefer to use electronic funds transfer. We offer the “Simply Giving” Program. This is a convenient, safe and simple way to give without the need to write a check, carry cash or prepare envelopes. The Simply Giving program does not cost you anything and can be started, stopped or changed at any time. The enrollment/change request form is on the table near the new offering envelopes and is very easy to complete. Funds can be transferred from your checking or savings account weekly, semi monthly or monthly and deposited into Trinity’s Bank account automatically. You also select which funds you would like your offering to be given. The same form is used if you want to make changes to the amount you are giving. Simply fill out the form and return it to the office. Simply Giving offering cards are available on the tables also. These cards are for those who use the Simply Giving Program, but also want to have something to put in the offering plate during worship services. We also have E-Giving available now through our web site http://trinitylutherannewhampton.org simply setup an account and make a onetime gift or schedule weekly or monthly gift, change on line if you wish. If you need help please contact someone on the stewardship team for assistance. Giving regularly and generously reminds us that all we are and all we have come from God. Our giving is an expression of our trust in God and gratitude to Him. Our offerings touch many lives but most of all our own; for it is in giving that we receive. I want to take this opportunity to say “Thank You” to all the members who make faithful contributions to Trinity and who share the blessings that our God has bestowed on them with Trinity. Mike Babcock Financial Secretary Reminder: Please have all your year end gifts made by noon December 31st. Thank You!
