Our Mission:Rooted in Christ, touched by His love and mercy, the Saint John Berchmans community finds unity in its diversity, proclaims by Word, Sacrament, and service, that the Kingdom of God is at hand, and declares that all are welcome in this place.

A letter from the Pastor

Dear SJB Family,

Today we are celebrating the fourth Sunday of Advent, and as we get closer to Christmas, the readings of this Sunday allow us to clearly see the mystery of the Incarnation.

Once again we are reunited as a family of faith here at in St. John Berchmans, understanding the announcement of the arrival of Christ, our Lord. The great Christmas party is approaching which celebrates the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ in Bethlehem and in each of our hearts. We must open our hearts and allow Jesus to lead us to proclaim the Word and to work together helping the needy, the sick, and the marginalized in our Church and in our world.

Today’s Gospel focuses on faith, love and trust. Joseph had faith in the message of the angel regarding Mary. His love for Mary and his faith and trust in God enable him to say “yes” to God’s will. We are called this Christmas to do the same. May our faith and trust in our God, who came to save us increase and enable our love for God and for each other to grow.

We join the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph, with a sincere desire to renounce everything that prevents our hearts from being born in Jesus so that together, like our Blessed Mother, and Joseph are willing to have as our only purpose in life to say “yes” and to do the will of the Father, and reflect on the mystery of the birth of Christ.

We ask you Lord, your grace on this SJB community, that we might wait in joyful hope for the return of your Son, Jesus, whose birth we celebrate. Merry Christmas to all!

Peace

Deacon Willie Mendizabal

EVANGELIZATION 101 WITH

SISTER DIANE MARIE

St. Paul, in his letter to the Romans, which we hear this week, speaks of himself being “called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God. “ Through our baptism we also have been “set apart for the gospel of God.” During this Advent season we have been invited to ponder our

relationship with Jesus and as we explored, hopefully we encountered him in our lives. During this past week we were challenged to rediscover our God-given talents and accept our call to be missionary disciples. If we have truly experienced his presence, our only response can be to profess the gospel and bear witness to it wherever and however we are called to do so. It is for this that we live and move and have our being. If we have met the living God in our lives, before or during this Advent season, we must not hold back, but surrender to the call to “go make disciples.” If we have accepted Jesus in our lives, we are called to share this gift with our world that hungers for the living God who transforms the lives of all who seek him. “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of those who bring glad tidings, announcing peace, bearing good news.” (Isaiah 52: 7)

Merry Christmas chosen ones of God!

Epiphany: January 4 and 5 we will celebrate the Epiphany, also known as “Three Kings Day.” Please be sure to take an envelope with the Epiphany blessing when you leave the Church. It is a tradition in the Catholic Church to bless chalk at the Masses for the Epiphany and then use the blessed chalk as a part of a blessing in one’s home in the New Year. Each envelope contains a small piece of chalk and instructions as to how to bless the doorways your home.

SAVE THE DATE! Saturday, January 11, 2020 after the 5 p.m. Mass in the Church Hall. Don’t miss this chance to get to know the members of our parish at one of our most popular events of the year! Join us!

A letter from the Pastor
