Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go.

Bill VaughanYouth is when you’re allowed to stay up late on New Year’s Eve. Middle age is when you’re forced

to.

P. J. O’RourkeThe proper behavior all through the holiday season is to be drunk. This drunkenness culminates

on New Year’s Eve, when you get so drunk you kiss the person you’re married to.

Jay LenoNow there are more overweight people in America than average-weight people. So overweight

people are now average… which means, you have met your New Year’s resolution.

James AgateNew Year’s Resolution: To tolerate fools more gladly, provided this does not encourage them to

take up more of my time.

Eric ZornMaking resolutions is a cleansing ritual of self assessment and repentance that demands person-

al honesty and, ultimately, reinforces humility. Breaking them is part of the cycle.

An Evening with Brett Kissel is presented by Lloydminster Community Youth Centre on January 9, 2015, at 7:30 pm, at Vic Juba Community Theatre.

Brett Kissel is a 24-year-old singer/songwriter who has been THE country music story of 2014 – recently winning two awards at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards – for “CMT Video of the Year” and “Interactive Artist of the Year”, after recording eight nominations. Brett also took home a Canadian Radio Music Award – for Breakthrough Artist of the Year in Country Music, on top of two Association of Country Music in Alberta awards, and two Edmonton Music Awards.

Influenced by the likes of Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Buck Owens and George Strait, Brett Kissel is still very much his own man: a dynamic, charismatic performer, singer and songwriter and ready to make an imposing impression on the country music scene.

Tickets are $45. For tickets, contact the Box Office at 780-872-7400, Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, or order your tickets online at vicjubatheatre.ca.

Happy New Year!! From all of us here at Lloyd Wine Outfitters!!

New Year’s Day Prayer for one and all

Dear Lord

So far this year I’ve done well.

I haven’t gossiped I haven’t lost my temper;

I haven’t been greedy, grumpy, nasty,

selfish, or overindulgent. I’m very thankful

for that. But in a few minutes, Lord, I’m

going to get out of bed, and from then on

I’m probably going to need a lot more help.

Amen

The Month After Christmas

‘Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.

The cookies I’d nibbled, the eggnog I’d taste At the holiday parties, had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales there arose such a number! When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).

I’d remember the marvelous meals I’d prepared; The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese And the way I’d never said, “No thank you, please.”

As I dressed myself in my husband’s old shirt And prepared once again to do battle with dirt---

I said to myself, as I only can “You can’t spend a winter disguised as a man!”

So--away with the last of the sour cream dip, Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished “Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won’t have a cookie--not even a lick. I’ll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won’t have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie, I’ll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I’m hungry, I’m lonesome, and life is a bore---

But isn’t that what January is for? Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.

Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

NEW YEARS EVE ONE LINERS

A New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. My new year’s resolution is to be more optimistic by keeping my cup half-full with

either rum, vodka, or whiskey. New Years Eve is the only acceptable time to wear body glitter without being

mistaken for a stripper. My New Year’s resolution is to stop hanging out with people who ask me about my

New Year’s resolutions. I have only one resolution. To rediscover the difference between wants and needs.

May I have all I need and want all I have. If 2014 was a person, I’d sue him for pain and suffering and lost wages.

This New Year’s I resolve to be less awesome since that is really the only thing I do in excess.

People treat New Year’s like some sort of life-changing event. If your life suckedlast year, it’s probably still going to suck tomorrow.

I’ll remember 2014 like it was yesterday Dear Luck, .....can we be friends in 2015 Please?

May all your troubles last as long as your New Year resolutions. Many things can be preserved in alcohol this New Years Eve. DIGNITY is

not one of them. I’m planning on finding new and interesting things to hate about my job in 2015.

Just heard that in 2015 there will be a new device that can turn thoughts into speech. I have had that for years, it’s called alcohol.

THE TWELVE DAYS AFTER CHRISTMAS.

The first day after Christmas my true love and I had a fight. And so I chopped the pear tree down and burnt it, just for spite. Then with a

single cartridge I shot that blasted partridge. My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me.

The second day after Christmas I pulled on the old rubber gloves and very gently wrung the necks of both the turtle doves.

My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me. On the third day after Christmas my mother caught the croup. I had to use the

three French hens to make some chicken soup The four calling birds were a big mistake for their

language was obscene. The five golden rings were completely fake and they

turned my fingers green. The sixth day after Christmas, the six laying geese wouldn’t lay.

I sent the whole gaggle to the S.P.C.A. On the seventh day, what a mess I found. All seven of the swimming swans had

drowned. My true love, my true love, my true love gave to me. The eighth day after Christmas before they could suspect.

I bundled up the eight maids-a-milking, nine ladies dancing, ten lords-a-leaping, eleven pipers piping, twelve drummers

drumming - well, actually I kept one of the drummers – and sent them back collect.

I wrote my true love “We are through, love!” And I said in so many words “Furthermore, your Christmas gifts are for the Birds!”

w The Babylonian new year celebration lasted for eleven days. Each day had its own particular mode of celebration.w The tradition of using a baby to signify the New Year was begun in Greece around 600 BC.w Many cultures believe that anything in the shape of a ring is good luck, because it symbolizes “coming full circle,” completing a year’s cycle.w ”Auld Lang Syne” literally means “old long ago,” or simply, “the good old days.”w 1904: The first-ever celebration of New Year’s Eve in Times Square.w Waterford Crystal in Ireland, created an exclusive “Let There Be Light” design for the crystal triangles on the new version of the New Year’s Eve Ball.w The first of January was dedicated by the Romans to their God of Gates and Doors, Janus.
