The fine entertainment provided a festive background while everyone enjoyed complimentary refreshments served by Rachel Bringer Shepherd and three Marion County Fair Queens: Kinley Timbrook, Little Miss; Alyssa Lee, Pre-Junior Miss and Mallory Sublette, Junior Miss. For the first time, the public voted on their favorite decoration or basket in the live auction. Congratulations to Heather McChristian and HATS Restaurant, the 2016 Winner of the People’s Choice Award! The live auction was a big draw, and hearty bidding raised $1730. There’s still a few days left to submit your nominations for Citizen of the Year, Educator of the Year and Volunteer of the Year. Nominations for Educator of the Year don’t have to be for a teacher but may be for any individual who positively guides youth or trains others.

To assist you, nominating criteria and guidelines are available at showmepalmyra.com > Click Here <; they are also available in print form at the Chamber office, the Palmyra Spectator, and City Hall. Recipients will be announced at the Palmyra Chamber’s Annual Banquet, January 5, 2017.

As in the past, the Palmyra Chamber Board of Directors will select the recipients for the Business Hall of Fame and the Paint Brush Award, the latter for a business that has really improved its looks and added that “something extra” to our community. Send your nominations to the Chamber office at P.O. Box 446, Palmyra, MO 63461 or [email protected]. The deadline for nominations is Friday, December 23.

Chamber Briefs...PALMYRA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The Palmyra Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting Tuesday, November 8, at El Nopal. President Brian Caldwell welcomed all, including FBLA guests Lane Hammon and Jessalyn Hultz.

CHRISTMAS IN PALMYRA Christmas in Palmyra chairperson, Teresa Smyser, shared news about Christmas in Palmyra, the Chamber event that would be held from 10 a.m. – Noon, Saturday, December 3, at the Marion County Courthouse. Highlights were a Christmas decoration and basket live auction at 11a.m. followed by a chance to win cash prizes: 5 drawings for $100, 1 for $200 and 1 for $300. All adults attending received a ticket for the cash drawing; those donating items for the food pantry and those making a purchase could receive an additional ticket. Doors opened at 10 a.m. for everyone to look at auction items and vote for their favorite item for a People’s Choice Award. Free coffee and donuts would be served. Smyser invited everyone to the event.

The Chamber is continuing its tradition of sponsoring Saturday fire truck rides with Santa. The rides depart from the fire station every Saturday from 1 – 2 p.m., November 26 through December 24. Riders are asked to bring a food item for our local Food Pantry.

CHAMBER NOMINATIONS The Palmyra Chamber is encouraging early submission of nominations for Citizen, Educator and Volunteer of the Year. Nominating criteria and guidelines are available at showmepalmyra.com, at the Chamber office, the Palmyra Spectator and City Hall. The deadline for nominations is December 23. Recipients will be announced at the Palmyra Chamber’s Annual Banquet, January 5, 2017.

CHAMBER “DELIVERY” The Palmyra Chamber webmaster, Sheila Scholl, delivered a healthy baby girl six weeks before her due date. Consequently, Chamber News and our website may be “delivered” little behind for a short while. Please bear with us! Congratulations to Sheila and family!

The next Chamber meeting will be held at noon, Tuesday, December 13, at HATS. Mayor Loren Graham and one or more members of the Palmyra City Council will present a recap of 2016 city happenings and perhaps a glimpse into the future as well. The public is invited to attend. Also mark your calendars for the Chamber’s Annual Banquet which will be held on January 5 beginning at 6 pm.
