Past Events | Key to College
Recently, I have attended many Key Club
events, but a recent event that I previously
attended was Key to College at UCLA. I was
super glad I took part in the event! It was
such an enriching, didactic program that
opened my eyes up to the possibility of me
wanting to attend UCLA down the road.
The Key to College was hosted by an
organization called Circle K, a college Key
Club version. It was held on campus and it
was a group of UCLA attending students
teaching us how to get into college, how
college life really is, and in addition, they
provided us workshops that were super
instructive and fun! The workshop and the
campus tour were two of my favorite parts
of this event. In the workshops, they
informed us the importance of study habits,
SATs, college requirements, and
participating in community service.
Furthermore, a campus tour was given to us.
It gave me a whole new perspective of
UCLA that I’ve never seen before. The
campus seemed so peaceful and beautiful
and going to see the dorms were pretty
awesome! Overall, I was glad that I spent
my whole Saturday at UCLA learning and
socializing and making friends with other
people from other Key Club. I have to say,
attending this event kind of gave me an
advantage of knowing how to prepare
myself for college later down the road.

Past Events |AIDS Walk
This year’s Aids Walk was truly
memorable, mostly because it
was my last year as a Senior.
The excitement and enthusiasm
coming from the new members
reminded me of the reason
why I joined Key Club in the first
place. As a dedicated
member I have attended every
Aids Walk ever since 9th grade,
and each year the race feels
shorter and shorter. It was fun
walking with friends, and letting
the time passed without even
knowing it. Throughout the
years, I’ve learned that Aids
Walk is not only about walking
6 miles and earning hours, but
when you look around and see
different people each walking
for a purpose, it really is an
inspiration. This inspired me and
I hope it inspires every future
Key Club members too.

Past Events | Ducksplash
As a senior in Key Club, it makes me sad
for not attending duck splash in previous
years. When I arrived I was expecting
REAL ducks but unfortunately they were
all rubber duckies. Although that didn’t
burst my mood, it was great seeing all the
key clubbers screaming and shouting
making our presence known. I was in
charge of our game booth, having little
kids throw an angry bird into a nest. It was
harder than it sounds! Even I couldn’t
make it in the nest the first few tries. After
a while of seeing kids disappointed faces
when all they received were some
stickers, I decided to help them out. If
they would miss the nest I would grab it
before it fell and it just so happen to fall
into the nest. The smiles on their faces is
what made standing around the booth
for hours’ worth it. That warm feeling you
get inside when you know the reason for
that kids smile is you. Apart from the
booth, the food they gave out to the
volunteers was a delicious juicy burger
that I finished in 30 seconds. Yeah it was
THAT GOOD. Duck splash was a fun and
emotional experience for me; even with
the heat I would definitely volunteer again
in a heartbeat.

Member of the Month
For the month of October, our member of the
month is Vanessa Valenzuela! She is the
president of her new club, Animal Helpers Club
and is one of our newest members who have
been active since the beginning of this school
year. Vanessa has a passion for service; she
helped out at the Los Angeles River Clean-up,
duck splash, AIDS walk, and our school’s
haunted house. She definitely loves to spend
time with her fellow keyclubbers. Whether she is
holding her new club during lunch or
participating in a Key Club event, she takes
great responsibility in her work. Vanessa makes
sure to attend as many events as possible
because she has absolutely developed great
enthusiasm for Key Club- especially for service.
She loves to help animals, her community, and
her school. Vanessa is a kind-hearted individual
because she not only cares for animals, but also
gives back to her community. She loves to
contribute her precious time for others because
for our school’s haunted house, she was a tour
guide who was in charge of directing a crowd
through the spooky house. However, she
originally had plans with her club and both
events happened to occur on the same time.
So she made arrangements and successfully
attended both events. Vanessa is willing to
sacrifice her time to be with other members of
Key Club. She is dedicated, kind, responsible,
and a potential leader in our club. Her excellent
loyalty to the club enables others

Officer of the Month
For the month of October, Division 3 South Key
Club bestows the officer of the month award to
our very handsome and stunning officer, Marvin
Lopez Santiago. With his dedication in this club, it
proves his very right that he deserve this award.
Marvin has a tremendous amount of responsibility
in our club. As the club backbone, he is very
organized with the club sign in at every club
meetings; making sure that every member has
signed in and not missed. Marvin makes sure, that
in every meeting, our members receives a copy
of an updated agenda of the club events,
divisional events, and even other
announcements happening. Aside from taking
care of our members at the club meetings,
Marvin also takes very good care of them at
every event when our president is of absence or
myself, busy with completing other tasks. He does
not miss any club event nor any division events,
as he has a great time management skill. He’s on
top of his academics and does not let things get
in the way whether it is Key Club, school, family
business, or anything, nothing stops him. He
encourages members to attend as many events
as they can, as experience throughout these
events are memorable. By being the club
secretary, he has gone above and beyond his
position, with handling the club minutes and
hours, he does a fantastic job. Marvin
demonstrates that he is very much capable of
doing his job at his maximum potential, his care
for others, and his devotion to giving back to the
community in the many ways possible as he takes
initiative to guide members to a path of success.

What is Key Club? Key Club International is the high school organization sponsored by Kiwanis
International. Key Club assists Kiwanis in carrying out its mission to serve the
children of the world. High school student members of Key Club perform acts of
service in their communities, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing and
organizing food drives. They also learn leadership skills by running meetings,
planning projects and holding elected leadership positions at the club, district
and international levels.
Key Club International brings together all Key Club's members' efforts and
energies into an area that makes an international impact through the Major
Emphasis, "Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” The Major Emphasis unites Key Clubs
under the banner of service that deals with the most important part of our
community, our youth.
The Key Club service initiative is the hands-on element of the Major Emphasis. All
of the hands-on service provided to children by Key Club International members
is directed to a single area of need, to make a substantial impact. The current
service initiative, The Eliminate Project, allows Key Clubbers joining forces with
Kiwanis International and UNICEF eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus.
Each year, Key Club International teams up with its three partner organizations,
March of Dimes, Children’s Miracle Network and UNICEF, for the fundraising
element of the Major Emphasis. As you plan your club’s service programming for
the year, keep these organizations in mind. Each Key Club is encouraged to
participate with our partners as we join together to make a difference in the lives
of children.
* We do not make Keys.
We are however, the Key Students
helping to make a brighter future!
