Be sure to check your lightsfor defects before stringing them.Defective lights can cause a spark.Don't forget to unplug all electricdecorations before leaving your homeor going to bed. If you are displaying afreshly cut Christmas tree, water it dailyto keep it from drying out. Dry trees areextremely flammable. Thank you forputting safety first, and happy holidays!
The first two months of the year areoften the coldest, so here's a simple tipto help your heater keep things toasty. When you leave your apartment in themorning, you may be tempted to turnyour thermostat down, and then turn itback up when you get home. Whilethis seems like the logical thing to do,it's actually better to “set it and forgetit”-that is, set your thermostat to acomfortable temperature and leave it

there. It actually takes more energy for
the heater to bring your apartment from
an uncomfortably cold temperature to a
warm one than it does to simply
maintain a steady temperature. The
only exception is if you plan to be away
from home for an extended period,
then it makes sense to turn it way down
or even off.

DECEMBER
It may sound counterintuitive, but you can often find more time in your day to get things done
by doing less. Multitasking may seem to be the best way to get through your to-do list, but it can sabotage your efforts. Researchers from the University of Michigan have found that when people multitask, they are diminishing their brain productivity by 20 to 40 percent. This occurs because your brain needs to spend some of its computing power on the switching process itself. Refocusing from one task to another decreases the brain’s efficiency.
To combat this, try to establish some new habits for your workflow. Instead of checking email every few minutes, only check it every couple of hours. This lets you focus on answering emails all at once. You can also use a timer when working on an important task. Using a timer helps you regulate how much time you need to spend on a single task. While the timer is going, you should not work on any other project in order to devote enough concentrated time to the task at hand.
Doing More by Doing Less
“ One of the marks of excellent people is that they never compare themselves with others. They only compare themselves with themselves and with their past accomplishments and future potential.”
- Brian Tracy
