Term 4, Week 10 End of Semester Reporting – Improving English results

Reports cards have been distributed this week, by email and in paper copy. Analysis of the students’ results show that, in every year level, there has been an improvement in students’ results in English. This is an area that our teachers have been working very hard in, and it is pleasing to see the great results of their efforts. Thanks to the teachers and staff for their hard work, and well done to the students. Report cards are a great source of feedback from each child’s teachers about their learning and progress, and also contains suggestions for future improvement. Please take time to read the report card with your child, and congratulate them on what they have done well or been successful in, as well as talking to them about how they can continue to improve next year.

Change to daily routine in 2019

In 2019, there will be a small change to the daily timetable, with the addition of a small play break before the second eating break. This is being done to enable the students to engage in physical activity, prior to eating, as a healthy activity that can support their learning in the classroom. The children will still have two eating breaks and a 20 minute play break at the end of the day, and start and finish times will not change.

Class allocations for 2019

Classes for 2019 have been drafted and have been checked for balance across each year level. A letter with class allocations has been distributed on Wednesday this week. Please note that we expect to have new enrolments over the summer break, and classes may change over the first two weeks of school. Note that any change after the start of school will be discussed with parents before it occurs.

School Resumes Tuesday, 29 January 2019

The school year begins for all students on Tuesday, 29 January. Students will be expected to wait in the undercover areas – Year 1-3 near the Resource Room and Year 4-6 near the tuckshop - for their teacher who will collect them and walk them to their classroom from 8.40am. Prep students can go directly to their class. The school office will be open from Monday, 21 January. We would like to thank parents for their support during this year and wish all families a safe and happy Christmas break.

Farewell to D’Bay North

I would like to express my gratitude for having the opportunity to be Principal of Deception Bay North SS for the last year and a half. This is a great school in a great community, where people care for each other and support each other. I am proud of the positive progress the school had made in this time and I am confident that Troy Barath will lead the school on a continuing positive improvement journey. I wish you all the best for the future! Michael Hoey Principal

Well, what I can say about our Christmas Concert other than how amazing our

performers were. A slight change in our song choices, which I thought was a nice

change. The evening starting with a sell-out sausage sizzle and excited students ready

to perform in some amazing outfits. Our first half performers (years 5, 1, 4, & 3) put on

a fabulous show with Year One being particularly cute.

Our Pasefika group started the second half of the concert in stunning style. A comment

was made “who is that stunning lady in the dance with the head piece on?” I was very

proud to announce that it was our School Captain Lexus Tufuga. Well done to Mrs Nanai

and our Pasefika group for such a strong performance. With a surprise visit from Santa,

our second half was leaving us in awe.

Our Year 6 students did well followed by our adorable Preppies. Year Two finished the

evening with such a powerful performance singing This Is Me from The Greatest

Showman. Our MCs Mrs Wirihana and Miss Liz Snow did a wonderful job with their

amazing Dad Jokes to keep the evening rolling.

I could not be more proud of the effort and commitment that our students and teachers

put into the concert this year. A thank you to all staff that helped out on the day,

whether it was setting up the hall, meeting and greeting our families at the front gate,

cooking the B.B.Q., preparing the bread or selling our sausage sizzle in the tuckshop. A

special thanks goes to Ross Keysell, for the very generous donation of the two meat

trays, and to Chris Whiting for the donation of the Christmas puddings for the raffles. I

felt a wonderful sense of community for our end of year performance. It was so fantastic

to see you all there supporting your children on such an energetic and fun filled night. I

look forward to what we create next year.
