Plant in small tins or planters found
at crafts stores, and decorate with
bands of cardstock (see left).
Planning a party? Write each
guest’s name on the cardstock and
use as double-duty place cards
and take-home favors.
CANDLE COZIESUpcycle an old sweater into a cozy
wrap for a candleholder or vase.
Cut off the end of a sweater arm to
length, plus about 2 inches. Fold
under and hot-glue the cut edge to
prevent fraying. Stitch or glue on
miniature jingle bells for extra cheer.
SNOW GLOBEThis twist on the snow globe starts
with a terrarium (this one is 7 inches
in diameter). Anchor sprigs of
cedar, spruce, or other greens in a
small piece of dry fl oral foam to
hold them in place; cover with faux
snow. Ornaments, pinecones, and
maybe a fl ower or two complete
the scene.

GLITTER STARBURSTInsert a wooden skewer into a 1⁄2-inch foam ball as a handle. Paint
the ball with gold acrylic paint;
let dry. Cover surface evenly with
50 toothpicks. Brush all surfaces
with tacky crafts glue, covering
thoroughly. Liberally sprinkle glitter
onto the wet glue. Let dry.

PINECONE GNOMEHot-glue a 1-inch wood ball to the fl at
end of a pinecone; hot-glue on a 3⁄8-inch-diameter wooden ball as a
nose. Bend the bottom 1 inch of a 4-inch
chenille stem, and hot-glue to top of
head. (This will give the hat shape.) Cut
felt into a triangle with 33⁄4-inch sides.
Hot-glue two sides together to make a
hat. Fold up the bottom to make a cuff .
Hot-glue hat to head, covering chenille
stems and “eyes.” For scarf, cut a 11⁄2×6-inch felt strip and fringe ends.
Wrap and hot-glue around neck. Glue
on wool roving or curly wool for beard.

coconut (22⁄3 cups)2⁄3 cup sugar1⁄2 cup chopped almonds,
toasted11⁄4 cup all-purpose flour11⁄4 tsp. salt11⁄4 cup chopped candied
red and/or green
cherries
2 Tbsp. finely chopped
candied orange peel
HERBED NUTS IN HONEY Spread 1 cup salted mixed nuts on a baking sheet.
Bake 10 minutes at 350°F. Transfer to a
kitchen towel and rub to remove loose
skins. Heat 1 cup honey, 4 sprigs fresh
marjoram, and ½ tsp. black pepper on
low for 5 minutes. Divide nuts and sauce
among four 4-oz. jars. Info for tag:
Topping keeps in the fridge up to
1 month and tastes great over cheese,
ice cream, and yogurt.
SALT & HERB RUB Combine 11⁄3 cups sea salt, 2⁄3 cup dried parsley, 11⁄4 cup dried
thyme, 111⁄4 cups crushed dried
rosemary, 1⁄4 cup ground black pepper, 11⁄4 cup dried shredded lemon peel,
2 Tbsp. garlic powder, and 2 Tbsp.
