DEEPSHIKHA- Institute for Child Development and Mental Health.

They say service to Mankind is service to God and especially when they are children, children who

are mentally and physically disabled. DEEPSHIKHA an NGO just does that, it is involved with childrenwho are mentally challenged and disabled irrespective of age. It caters to all the problems of these

"special children, as we would like to call them. It not only trains them through professional

trainers, to deal with day to day chores but also provides them with vocational training to earn

livelihood, when they are independent on their own.

We, a group of ten people from IIM Ranchi got an opportunity to visit this NGO on the 29th & 30th

of June. These two days were an eye opening experience for all of us. It sensitized us with the

problems that these children faced and also made us appreciate the work this organisation as been

doing along with such other kinds of organizations.

Deepshikha, established in 1988 at Ranchi, is structurally a very well organised institution, runningits work through two buildings located at Ara Gate, Namkum and at Swami Shradhanand Road. The

day care centre operates at the Swami Shradhanand Road office. Here, they take children who come

not only from Ranchi but also beyond Jharkhand, at an early age where they undergo tests to

ascertain the level of disability, and then accordingly treat them with physiotherapy, special

education, clinical psychology and various psychometric treatments. Later when they feel that the

child has benefited from this training and can go to higher level they graduate to the premises

located at Ara Gate, Namkum. Here children aged 16 years and above are also vocationally trained

for file making, bag making and screen printing etc, their main aim being to train mentally retarded

children to carry out productive activities independently. Deepshikha also runs a diploma program

on special education, to train people who will later be involved with such kinds of children. It also

organizes community awareness program in rural and remote places to sensitize people on this issueand reaches to distressed families, specially due to social stigma which is rampant in remote areas

    due to lack of awareness.

To sum it up, Deepshikha is an organisation which involves in training, motivating and empowering

disabled persons to reach beyond their abilities and become useful members of society. We all have

been very enlightened with this experience of ours and are eager to associate with this organisation

in the coming months. It will be our sincere effort to make a difference in the life of these children

and also a way to contribute to society as large and help us in our social commitments.

Leadership Summit Organized by IIM Ranchi

    About

IIM Ranchi Leadership Summit 27th July, 2012 @BNR Chanakya , Ranchi.

    Description

IIM Ranchi aims to grow into an institution of excellence and work towards its core value of inclusive

growth for the greater good. We are an Institute with a difference. We propose to blend the efficient

processes and knowledge delivery models of the west with the local knowledge to produce the best

in class management program. We seek the collaboration of like-minded people from all walks of

    life.

Confluence of Industry Captains, IIM Ranchis leadership summit, brings together the Industry

pioneers to share their vision 2020. The summit aims at evoking an interaction between the industry

and the IIMR academia thereby providing an ideal platform for today's eminent leaders to meet and

inspire the leaders of tomorrow. The experiences and insights of Indias best business thought

leaders will provide the students an opportunity to gain hands-on wisdom.

The eminent speakers from various sectors like Finance, Engineering, IT, Telecom, Infrastructure,

and Automotive would offer an exclusive preview of how they envision 2020.

At this event, the students of IIM Ranchi who are associated with Deepshika took an initiative to

create awareness among the students and eminent leaders gathered for the summit. A stall was put

near the entrance of the venue. The stall was divided into two parts. One part took care of

promotion and the other took care of selling the handmade crafts by the Differently abled children

    of Deepshika.

Brochures, banners, awareness booklets etc. were distributed for the promotional purpose. Viral

Marketing was employed and it attracted the crowd gathered.

Craft items consisted of handmade colourfully designed gift bags, greeting cards, aprons, water

bottle covers, and mobile pouches for different occasions. The price quoted by them was

significantly cheap. But the crowd was willing to pay more a noble cause. So we decided to increasethe price margin by a certain percentage. This resulted in a 1000 % profit margin. We had items

worth 700 Rupees which were sold for 7000 Rupees. The crowd were appreciative of the effort

shown by the Deepshika Team in show casing the talent of the Differently Abled Kids.

As the day ended, the sum collected was safely handed over to the person in charge at Deepshika

    Main Branch.
