Deep Water CayWHERE THE BIG FISH PLAY
We’re surrounded by blues, but you’ll never catch us singing them.
On most days, the color of our water
very closely resembles the color
of our sky. As boundaries are lost,
opportunities appear. You’re not
looking at a mirage. You’re looking at
Deep Water Cay.
For half a century, time has stood still,
just as it does
when a bonefish comes up on a flat
and chases your fly.
It stops in a way that’s
similar to your first drift over a
bottomless blue hole, and when you
watch a hooked billfish tear
across a slick surface.
You can savor every tug on your line
as you do the clear water.
Soak in the island
as the water gently laps at your feet.
Spread aloe on your toned skin.
The salt, sand and sea rejuvenate
your soul. Just go slow.
At Deep Water Cay, you’ve got
all the time in the world.
The destination for more than just pirates.
Anglers have come to Deep Water Cay in search of treasure since 1958. Bonefish. Permit. Tarpon. Marlin. Sailfish. And tuna.
Fishing has always been an integral part of Bahamian life, and the venerable Deep Water Cay has hosted some of the most
adventurous and distinguished anglers. Joe Brooks. Curt Gowdy. Ray Bergman. Stu Apte. Flip Pallot. Lefty Kreh. Chico
Fernandez. Sandy Moret. Discover why Deep Water Cay is the standard by which other destinations are measured.
250 square miles of flats, 110 miles from Palm Beach.
“The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.”
– John Buchan
At Deep Water Cay, there is always a flat
where you can find solitude. Some are
long and have hard-packed sand. Others
are soft with mangroves around the
edges. Still others have patches of turtle
grass here and there. The horizon line is
eight miles away, but you’ll swear it
doesn’t exist.
The tides on the north and south sides
of the island are different. That means
we can always find a perfect tide.
We can fish all points on the compass,
and that means we can out-fox Aeolus,
the Greek God of the Winds.
After that, you’ll just need to focus on
the bonefish. Or permit. Or ‘cuda. Or
mutton snapper. Some will be cruising,
others will be tailing. Try and keep your
cool and cast.
Sometimes, a tail-walking billfish leaves
rings on the water’s surface that
resemble those left by a child skimming
stones. Other times they thrash so hard
that you can feel their fight deep in your
soul. That’s exactly what makes offshore
fishing addictive. And when it gets in
your blood, you can’t shake it.
At Deep Water Cay you can head
offshore Hemingway-style. Think about
Islands in the Stream or The Old Man
and the Sea as you climb aboard one of
our two 33-foot World Cats. Our charter
captains are focused on putting you on
mahi mahi, tuna, wahoo, white marlin,
blue marlin and sails - in season.
When you return from your trip you’ll
probably have that look in your eyes
that all offshore anglers get. It’s like
they just found the pot of gold under
the rainbow. They did, just like Papa.
Offshore Fishing, Pilar-Style.
"Soon after I embraced the sport of angling I became convinced that I should never beable to enjoy it if I had to rely on the cooperation of the fish." Sparse Grey Hackle
World-Class Blue Hole Diving.
Dive our Blue Holes that run along
the Little Bahama Bank near our cay and
discover why they captivated Jacques
Cousteau. They aren’t found just
anywhere, mind you. Blue Holes are
only found in the Bahamas, Cuba, and
some parts of Belize. Set sail on one of
our two customized 33-foot World Cats.
Let us take you on a dive that is
guaranteed to leave you speechless.
After you've conquered the Blue Holes,
why not dive the reefs and the walls?
Or grab a mask and fins and snorkel off
the beach. At Deep Water Cay you'll
find as much variety under the sea as
you do above it.
Plan your trip in advance or decide when you get here.
"“Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing it is not fish they are after.” - Henry David Thoreau
Pondering your day’s adventure is best
done on our private beach or in our
infinity pool. Decide if you’re feeling
vigorous or relaxed. For the spirited,
how about a round of tennis, a run,
a swim in the pool or a workout in the
gym? Should Neptune call your name,
there are plenty of water sports to
choose from. Or unwind by paddling a
kayak along the flats and through the
channels, or catch the wind and sail on
one of our Hobie Cats.
We can prepare a picnic lunch for you
to enjoy on the beach while reading or
shelling, or get you to Freeport or
Nassau for duty-free shopping.
For some, swimming in the clear
Bahamian water and lounging by the
Infinity Pool is relaxing enough.
But you're here to totally unwind,
so pamper yourself with a massage.
Would a deep-tissue massage be too
decadent? Perhaps. And when shall we
schedule your reservation? At Deep
Water Cay your wish is our command.
The first time the notes of Rule Britannia
were played off the shores of Deep
Water Cay, Edward Teach (Blackbeard),
Black Sam Bellamy, and Calico Jack
Rackham quaked in their boots.
While the shantytowns of Grand Bahama
were good enough for them, your
accommodations will be much different.
You'll have a choice between quaint
one-bedroom cottages, and spacious
two- and four-bedroom homes, with
private baths, living and dining rooms,
and kitchens with new appliances. Enjoy
a morning cup of coffee or an evening
sundowner as you gaze out over the
water from your veranda. Hard phone
lines are in the main lodge, and for those
who must stay connected, cell service
and satellite Internet are available on the
island. We'll stimulate your palate with a
combination of Bahamian and West
Indian cuisine. If you arrive by the club's
private ferry, we'll greet you at our
brand-new reception area and tiki bar.
A fully-stocked pro shop offers all of the
items you need to make your fishing,
diving or sunning trip more enjoyable.
Our island is 2.2 miles long, and if you
don't feel like walking, there are always
golf carts and bicycles. Enjoy. This is
where the big fish play.
In 1715, Port Nassau was a Tent City. Those days are long since past.
