THESE KEYS UNLOCK DOORS
Teach-Now is a 9-month teacher preparation programme for current and prospective teachers, not restricted to US citizens, resulting in a US teaching licence in your choice of two states. Rather than enrolling in several courses in a single semester, candidates progress through a series of intense, comprehensive modules of different lengths, taken in sequence. Discover how Teach-Now can really unlock the future.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Several ECIS schools have been involved in service projects at the Sanjeewani Primary School in Nagarkot, Nepal, building connections with the local community affected by the devastating 2015 earthquake. In April 2017, a team will be visiting ECIS schools to participate in professional development opportunities. In support of this project, the Early Childhood SIG is donating a grant. Your participation at this conference contributes to learning across the globe. Thank you for your support!

DEEPENING CONNECTIONS IN NEPALINTRODUCING THE COMMITTEE
Thanks to your generous contributions, we collected an incredible 313 books in 23 languages at our previous Early Childhood Conference! These books traveled by train from Zurich to Vienna to donate to the Who Am I public library in Vienna where they were received with great appreciation. Thank you again for promoting home language learning around the world!
STUDENT TEACHER COLLABORATION PROMOTING GLOBAL LITERACY THROUGH TURN THE PAGE

WELCOME FROM MELISSA MCDONALD
The ECIS Early Childhood Special Interest Group is delighted to welcome you to St. John’s International School in Waterloo, Belgium, March 24th-25th. On behalf of the team, I am honored to share our excitement with returning to St. John’s International School to bring you another fantastic professional learning experience. Our theme is ‘Deepening Connections’ and our goal is to develop learning opportunities and connections amongst international early childhood educators.
As a follow up to our previous conference, we responded to your feedback on moving our conference forward one year as well as including more repeat sessions of our invited speakers. Your input has allowed us to make learning opportunities more accessible. Our aim has been to provide a variety of opportunities for you to continue deepening connections between new and prior learning.
In alignment with our conference theme, we have condensed our strands to four key areas in the early years. Our keynote, invited, and teacher presenters will deliver inspiring and thought-provoking workshops in the areas of Diversity, Pedagogy, Creativity and Environment.
Our connection journey will begin with the return of two of our previous expert speakers, Stuart Stotts and Monica Neagoy. Whether you are hearing them again or for the first time, they always provide key insights to supporting learning in early childhood settings. We will continue to deepen our understanding by learning more from Elizabeth Jarman about designing effective communication-enriched spaces and Margot Sunderland who will be sharing ways to strengthen relationships. Our conference concludes with the return of Stuart Stotts for an engaging closing session on how to nurture kindness.
In between these phenomenal keynote speakers, we will have over 30 sessions from our keynotes, invited speakers, and amazing teacher presenters. These workshops will provide insights, strategies and tips to promote student learning and engagement.
WELCOME TO OUR 12TH EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CONFERENCE!
ECIS Early Childhood Special Interest Group
We are happy to offer this wonderful opportunity for you to connect and extend your learning with other international early childhood professionals. We look forward to meeting you!
Warm wishes,
Melissa McDonaldChair, ECIS Early Childhood Special Interest Group
St. John’s International School WELCOME FROM RAY HOLLIDAY-BERSEGEAY
Welcome to Belgium, and especially to Waterloo! You have travelled from countries from four continents to join with fellow early childhood practitioners here in St. John’s International School. Such journeys show your belief in the power of sharing practice and deepening connections as well as your belief in continuous personal and professional development.
There are four strands to the conference: diversity, pedagogy, creativity and environment. All strands have their keynote speakers and then there are numerous opportunities, either within the groups or informally during the breaks, for you to reflect, ponder, think and share. I am convinced that you shall all then return to your schools enriched by the experience and with a deepened and enhanced viewpoint on the four themes. St John’s International School is very happy to be hosting the ECIS Early Childhood Conference. The school has been in existence for over 53 years, which means that we have quite a track record in the provision of education for this age group. Indeed, we are doing so for the third time as part of our commitment to international education and our belief in the power of group professional development.
So, enjoy the course and enjoy each other’s company, be open-minded and receptive, and continue your belief in the role of international school education as a way to change mindsets and to bring people of different cultures and beliefs together.
Best wishes,
Ray Holliday-Bersegeay Head of School

Author | Consultant | Keynote speaker FRIDAY KEYNOTE: MONICA NEAGOY
Monica Neagoy is an author, international consultant, and popular keynote speaker with a keen passion for mathematics.
In addition to writing books, her 25-year mathematics career has included teacher professional development, math specialist training, national/international conference speeches, live television courses, video creation and hosting, math apps conception, and live math shows including her one-woman MathMagic Show. Whether in the U.S., Europe, or elsewhere, whether presenting in English, French, or Spanish, whether working with teacher, parents, or students, Monica’s life-long goal has been to infuse people with a fascination for the beauty, power, and wonder of mathematics.
Dr. Neagoy’s mathematical expertise spans grades PreK to 12. After creating many video courses for the upper grades—including series for Discovery Education and The Annenberg Channel, over the past decade she has focused on the elementary grades. She’s convinced that if a child enters middle school disenchanted with mathematics, the chances to rekindle his or her love for mathematics are slim.
Having begun her teaching career in the Georgetown University Mathematics Department and been a program director at the National Science Foundation thereafter, her knowledge of higher mathematics enables her to empower teachers and parents to appreciate the bridges from early childhood math to advanced abstract math. In 2012 and 2014, Corwin Press published two books authored by Dr. Neagoy titled, Planting The Seeds of Algebra, PreK-2 and Planting the Seeds of Algebra, 3-5 respectively.
ASCD and NCTM are co-publishing her upcoming book Unpacking Fractions, which will be out in March 2017. Finally, Monica is also director and lead author of a brand new adaptation of Singapore Mathematics for France (and available to other French-speaking countries), published by La librairie des Écoles in Paris.
