The Learning

at the University of South Florida

The Learning Academy at the University of South Florida is a customized transition program that assists in preparing young

adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder for employment. The Learning Academy provides services, supports and experiential opportunities that develop and enhance each student’s independence in meeting personal career goals. Our students engage in self-discovery and career explo-ration through real-life experiences such as internships and peer mentoring which allows generalization of learned skills.

What makes us unique? Our program values are infused in all aspects of our work. We are person-cen-tered, creating an individualized path to success as defined by each student. The vast

majority of our students have gone on to college or gainful and meaningful employ-ment based on their personal preferences. We facilitate friendships with USF students through our mentorship component. Our staff continues to build a network of diverse business contacts for internship opportuni-ties and employment. Ongoing data collec-tion and student surveys inform us about how to make continuous program improve-ments. Support does not stop after students leave our program. We establish an ongoing long-term relationship to ensure success over time for each person.

We are proud to support our students with the TLA Success Fund. The monies donated to this fund will directly impact each student’s ability to reach his or her personal goals and build capacity in our community.
