Definition of Rhymes
Rhymes are types of poems which have the the repetition of the
same or similar
sounds at the end of two or more words most often at the ends of
lines. Thistechnique makes the poem easy to remember and is
therefore often used inNursery Rhymes. There are several
derivatives of the term rhyme which includeDouble rhyme, Triple
rhyme, Rising rhyme, Falling rhyme, Perfect and Imperfect
rhymes.
Example of a well known Nursery Rhyme
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the King's horses, And all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again!
Definition of Metaphor
Metaphor is when you use two nouns and compare or contrast them
to one another.Unlike simile, you don't use "like" or "as" in the
comparison.
I am a rainbow
"I am a rainbow" is a example of metaphor because it is
comparing two nouns, aperson, and a rainbow, but does not use like
or as.
I am not Anger
"I am not anger" is an example of metaphor because it is
contrasting two nouns.
I AM LAS VEGAS
I am Las Vegas growing by the infiniteawake morning by
night,
or day.I am Las VegasMy hand is the sand.

Personification Poems are types of verse in which inanimate or
non-human objects aregiven human attributes! For example, 'The
wheat danced to the beat of the distantthunder.' Clearly everyone
knows wheat can't dance, but it has been given human
qualities for the purposes of this unique and entertaining
poetic form.
Example of poem
Dinnertime Chorus
The teapot sang as the water boiledThe ice cubes cackled in
their glass
the teacups chattered to one another.While the chairs were
passing gas
The gravy gurgled merrilyAs the oil danced in a pan.
Oh my dinnertime chorus
What a lovely, lovely clan!
Definition of Figure of Speech
FIGURE OF SPEECH : A mode of expression in which words are used
out of theirliteral meaning or out of their ordinary use in order
to add beauty or emotional intensityor to transfer the poet's sense
impressions by comparing or identifying one thing withanother that
has a meaning familiar to the reader. Some important figures of
speech
are: simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole and
symbol.
