“Beloved: First of all, I ask that supplications, prayers, peti-tions, and thanksgivings be of-fered for everyone, for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity. This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as ransom for all” (1 Timo-thy 2:1-6). What a beautiful reminder from St. Paul in our approach to the broader community. “First of all” we pray, especially for our leaders, that they may foster an environment conducive to God’s reign in our hearts while we journey in a hostile world. God is patient with us and our world because God “wills everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Each of us is in need of growth and God is there to help us. Jesus is our Savior and friend. It begins with pray-
er. May God help us to begin with hearts open to truth and love in prayer, and then do everything in the Name of Jesus.
In Christ, son of Mary,
Fr. Russell

Please notify the Parish Office if you or some-one you know will be hospitalized or confined at home and would like to receive the Anointing of the Sick.
In Need of a Minister of Care Visit? Perhaps you or a loved one is unable to attend Mass, perhaps due to a surgery, chronic illness, or difficulty in mobili-ty… It is important that each parishioner knows they are a part of our community, even when not able to actively participate. Each of us is in need of Christ’s presence in our lives… Ministers of Care bring the Eucharist to the homebound and offer prayer. Also, if you or a loved one is admitted to Kish Hospital, please make sure the patient’s name is given to the hospital on admission and it will be added to the list for communion visits. Call the church office if you or a loved one is in need of the Eucharist being brought to the home. Please continue to pray for the sick and homebound.

12TH WEEK OF FISCAL YEAR 2019 - 2020
Stewardship
The dishonest manager in today’s parable knew how to manipulate money to his own advantage. But the Gospel warns that no one can serve both God and money. Which do I serve? Is my stewardship such that anyone can tell?
R.C.I.A. What is R.C.I.A.? (The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the ordinary way in which adults who were not raised in the Cath-olic faith become fully initiated into the Roman Catholic Church through Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. Who is R.C.I.A. for? Someone who was baptized Catholic but then never received any other Sacraments; someone who was baptized into a different faith or Church; someone who was never baptized at all and is just beginning their life in faith; or simply, former Catholics who want to come home. It is for people from all walks of life and faith backgrounds who are curious about the Catholic Church, and who have at some time and on some level considered joining. How do I inquire or register? Call the parish office at 815.758-5432. You can call to register for the classes, to ask questions, or simply give us the name(s) of someone you think might like to be contacted. Classes start on Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 PM in the Parish Office Presentation Room. A Bible and a Catechism of the Catholic Church should be obtained before classes begin. Program materials are provided.
Parishioners are invited to give an offering for Mass Intentions in the name of a deceased loved one, for the intentions of someone in need, or in thanksgiving for a blessing received from the Lord. In accordance with Church law, only
one intention per mass will be accepted for an offering of $10.00. For more information, please call the Parish Office at 815.758-5432.

In today’s Gospel we see that prudent decisiveness means that we recognize that all our choices in daily living are really
choices for eternal life. Admission into heaven is something money cannot buy. The only currency that has any
value to secure our entrance is that of love.
As you give your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, know that you are a sign of
God’s love to those who are suffering.
God has entrusted your spouse to your care - are you trustworthy in that care? The next Worldwide

ST. WENCESLAUS FEAST DAY - SEPTEMBER 28
He was born near Prague, Czechoslovakia in 907. His father, Vratistlas, Duke of Bohemia, was a Christian; but his mother Drahomira, a pagan, was a cruel woman. Fortunately for him, he was educated under the care of his saintly grandmother, St. Ludmilla. He went to college about sixty miles from Prague at Budweis, where he made great progress in learning. When he was a young man, his father was killed while fighting the Magyars and his mother took over the government. She instituted secular or anti-Christian policies giving vent to her hatred of Christianity by a cruel persecution. His mother died in 921 and was replaced by Wenceslaus in 922. To prevent disputes between him and his brother, Boleslaus, the people divided the territory between them, giving Boleslaus a considerable share. His brother had been under the influence of his mother and had acquired her hatred of the Christian religion. The pious Wenceslaus led the life of a saint in the midst of his court, distinguishing himself by his devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. Intent on molding his people in the faith he loved, he met fierce opposition from powerful elements among his own nobility. While in power, he cultivated friendly relations with Germany and in 926, he acknowledged King Henry I as the legitimate successor of Charlemagne. When his brother lost the right of succession, he began to plot against Wenceslaus and invited him to celebrate the feast of Sts. Cosmas and Damian at Stara Boleslav. He was invited to the court of his brother after the festivities and went at midnight to pray in the church. The assassins found him there and the mortal blow given him by his own brother. He was murdered on September 20, 929.
