Description

Dekguard S system comprises of a single component,penetrating silane/silaxone primer and a single componentpigmented coating, both ready for immediate site use.

The primer, Dekguard primer is supplied as a clear liquidand is based on a silane/silaxone blend dissolved in apenetrating organic carrier. The primer is reactive andcapable of producing a chemically bound hydrophobic barrier,thus inhibiting the passage of water and waterbornecontaminants.

Dekguard S is aliphatic acrylate, solvent based protectivecoating, providing outstanding resistance to aggressiveagents, UV light and rain. It is available in a selected range ofcolours.

Design criteria

The coating should be applied in two coats at a wet filmthickness of not less than 175 microns per coat. To achievethe correct protective properties, Dekguard S primer and topcoat system must be applied on to the substrate at thecoverage rates recommended.

Dekguard® S

Specification clauses

Protective / decorative surface coating

The protective coating shall comprise Dekguard Primer, apenetrating silane/silaxone primer and Dekguard S, a singlecomponent aliphatic acrylate coating. The total dry filmthickness of the coating shall be not less than 150 micronsand shall be capable of providing carbon dioxide diffusionresistance and the depth of carbonation shall be Nil, whentested at 24 hours by the accelerated carbonation test. Thepermeability shall be Nil when tested at 24 hours as per BS1881.

Application instructions

Preparation

All surface should be dry and free from contamination such asoil, grease, loose particles, decayed matter, moss, algaegrowth, laitance, and all traces of mould release oils and curingcompounds. This is best achieved by lightly grit blasting thesurface. Where moss, algae or similar growths have occurred,treatment with a proprietary biocide should be carried out afterthe grit blasting process.

Note : It is not necessary to remove Fosroc's Nitobond ARcuring membrane prior to the application of Dekguard Sprovided the adhesion to the substrate is excellent.

Where application over existing sound coatings is required,trials should be conducted to ensure compatibility and retentionof the bond between the underlying coating and the substrate.For further advice, consult Fosroc.

It is essential to produce an unbroken coating of Dekguard S.To ensure this is achieved, surfaces containing blow holes orsimilar areas of pitting should first be filled using a suitablecementitious fairing coat like Renderoc FC or Acrylic fairingcoat like Nitocote Putty ( for further details, refer to Fosroc).

The cementitious fairing coat should be allowed to cure forabout 48 hours depending on ambient conditions before theapplication of Dekguard S.

Application

In order to obtain the protective properties of the Dekguardsystem, it is important that the correct rates of application andover coating time are observed.

Application should not commence if the temperature of thesubstrate is below 100C.

Any areas of glass should be masked. Plants, grass, jointsealants, asphalt and bitumen - painted areas should beprotected during application.

The primer should be applied in one or more coats until therecommended application rate of 0.4 litre per square meterhas been achieved. This is best accomplished by usingportable spray equipment of the knapsack type. If in doubtabout the condition of the substrate the local Fosroc officeshould be consulted.

The primer should be allowed to dry for a minimum of twohours (at 250 C ) before application of Dekguard S. Under nocircumstances should the primer be overcoated until thesurface is properly dry.

Dekguard S may be applied by the use of suitable brushes orrollers. Queries relating to spray application should be referredto the local Fosroc office prior to the commencement of work.For further information about application techniques, pleaseconsult Fosroc.

Dekguard® S

All primed substrates should be treated with two coats ofDekguard S. The material should be stirred thoroughly beforeuse. The first coat should be applied to all areas by the use ofsuitable brushes or rollers to achieve a uniform coating withwet film thickness not less than 175 microns. This coat shouldbe allowed to dry before continuing.

The second coat of Dekguard S should be applied exactly asdetailed above, again achieving a wet film thickness not lessthan 175 microns.

Cleaning

Cementitious fairing coat should be removed from tools andequipment with clean water immediately after use.

Dekguard Primer, Dekguard S should be removed from toolsand equipment using Nitoflor Sol.

Limitations

The Dekguard S system is formulated for application to clean,sound concrete or masonry. The product should not be appliedover dense, nonporous materials. Where application overexisting sound coating or paints is required, trials should beconducted to ensure compatibility and retention of the bondbetween the underlying coatings or paints, the performancecharacteristics of Dekguard S may be impaired. Compatibilityand soundness should be assessed on a trial area. For furtheradvice, consult Fosroc.

Health & Safety

Dekguard primer and Dekguard S and Nitoflor Sol should notcome in contact with the skin and eyes, or be swallowed.Adequate ventilation should be ensured and inhalation ofvapours should be avoided. Some people are sensitive toresins, hardeners and solvents, hence suitable protectiveclothing, gloves and eye protection should be worn. If workingin confined areas, suitable respiratory protective equipmentmust be used. The use of barrier creams provide additionalskin protection. In case of contact with skin, should be rinsedimmediately with plenty of clean water and medical advicesought. If swallowed, medical attention sought immediately.Should not induce vomiting.

Fire

Dekguard Primer, Dekguard S and Nitoflor Sol are flammable,should be kept away from sources of ignition. Smoking notallowed. In the event of fire, extinguish with CO2 or foam,should not use a water jet.

Dekguard S300 system comprises of a single component,silane/silaxone primer followed by a two component polymerunder coat, over coated with a single component pigmentedaliphatic top coat. The primer, Dekguard primer is suppliedas a clear liquid and is based on a silane/silaxone blenddissolved in a penetrating organic carrier. The primer isreactive and capable of producing a chemically boundhydrophobic barrier, thus inhibiting the passage of water andwaterborne contaminants. The under coat comprising ofpowder and polymeric emulsion provides the high build andweathering properties. The top coat consists of a singlecomponent aliphatic acrylic based protective coating.

The aliphatic acrylate, solvent-based topcoat providesoutstanding resistance to aggressive agents, UV light andrain. It is available in a selected range of colors.

The protective coating shall be Dekguard S300 sysetemcomprising of a penetrating silane/silaxone primer followedby Dekguard S300, polymer undercoat and overcoated withDekguard S300, aliphatic acrylate pigmented topcoat. Thetotal dry film thickness of the coating shall be not less than300 microns excluding primer and shall be capable ofproviding carbon dioxide diffusion resistance and the depthof carbonation shall be Nil, when tested at 24 hours by theaccelerated carbonation test. Uses

Dekguard Standard system is suitable for use on all types ofstructures which are not directly exposed to sea, to protectstructures from attack by acid gases, chloride ions, sulphates,oxygen and water. The product is also suitable to protectother cementitious substrate and masonry.

Description

Fosroc Nukote ST is a two part, 100% solids, aromatic purepolyurea elastomeric coating. It displays excellent chemicalresistance, thermal stability and UV resistance in both ambientand elevated process temperature applications.

Fosroc Nukote ST is available in black and medium greycolours.

Where mentioned in the contract drawings, the protective andwaterproof coating shall be Fosroc Nukote ST; a 100% solids,elastomeric, pure polyurea coating system, providing highcorrosion, abrasion and thermal shock resistance. It shallalso meet values stated under section “Properties”.

Clarification of property values

The physical properties shown in the above table are definedin a range of values to allow for compliance when testing ofsprayed films or laboratory draw down films. Results derivedfrom independent testing will fall within the ranges shown if thetesting performed complies with the standards utilised for eachindividual property shown. Results vary dependent on severalfactors, including the equipment utilised, product mix ratios,application pressures, application temperatures, dry filmthickness, age of sample tested, etc. Results also vary dependenton the film type tested with laboratory draw down films derivinghigher properties than sprayed films. Test results from films ofat least 30days in age will provide higher values thatn resultsfrom younger films as chemical cross-linking requires this timeperiod to complete.

Instructions to Use

Surface preparation

All surfaces must be smooth, sound and free from debris,loose or flaking material and areas of standing water. Surfacesmust be free from contamination such as oil, grease andorganic growth. Concrete surfaces must be fully cured, laitencefree and free from any traces of shutter release oils and curingcompounds.

To achieve the above, it is recommended that the surface beblast cleaned and all blow holes and imperfections be filledwith Nitomortar FC*† or Nitomortar FC(B)*† . Consult the localdata sheet for pot life and overcoating times.

Priming

The substrate should be primed as detailed below:

For concrete, stone, brick, epoxy or polyurethane surfaces useNitoprime 25*.

For metal surfaces use Fosroc Nukote Primer 1*†.

For application as a topcoat over another Fosroc Nukotesystem, priming is not necessary if the overcoating is conductedwithin 6 hours of application of the base coat. If the overcoatwindow exceeds 6 hours, priming will be necessary. Pleasecontact local Fosroc office for recommendation.

Mixing

Fosroc Nukote ST should be applied by specialist applicationequipment and by specialist applicators approved by Fosroc.

Fosroc Nukote ST should not be diluted under any circumstance.Use appropriate solvent for purge line and flushing of equipmentand if spraying stops for a period of time in excess of the potlifeof the material, throughly mix Fosroc Nukote ST part B resinmaterial with air driven power equipment until a homogenousmixture and colour is obtained.

Application

This material must be applied utilizing high-pressure, heatedplural component spray proportioning equipment, such asthose manufactured by GlasCraft, Gusmer and Graco.

Cleaning

Cured product may be disposed without restriction. The un-cured isocyanate and resin portions should be mixed togetherand disposed in a normal manner. “Drip free” containersshould be disposed according to local environmental laws andordinances.

Limitations

Fosroc Nukote ST is formulated for application to clean,sound concrete and steel.

Fosroc Nukote ST should not be applied over existingcoatings.

Fosroc Nukote ST should not be opened until ready to use.Adding a nitrogen blanket is strongly recommended.

Under constant exposure to ultraviolet light the productsphysical properties will not be effected but colors will darkenand gloss will fade uniformly.

For full colour stability, Fosroc Nukote ST should beovercoated with Fosroc Nukote PA.

Storage

Shelf life

All products have a shelf life of 12 to 18 months if kept in a dry,air conditioned store between 5°C and 50°C in the original,unopened containers. The use of drum heaters is encouragedto reduce material viscosity at temperatures below 10°C.

Storage conditions

Store in dry conditions at temperatures between 5°C and 50°Cin the original, unopened containers. If stored at hightemperatures the shelf life will be reduced.

Precautions

Health and safety

Fosroc Nukote ST should not come in contact with the skinand eyes, or be swallowed. When using Nucote HT ensureadequate ventilation and avoid inhalation of vapour. Somepeople are sensitive to resins, hardeners and solvent.

Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye protection.The use of barrier creams provides additional skin protection.In case of contact with the skin, rinse with plenty of clean water,then cleanse with soap and water. Do not use solvent.

In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty ofclean water and seek medical advice. If swallowed, seekmedical attention immediately – do not induce vomiting.

Fire

Fosroc Nukote ST is non-flammable.
