There are stories called "parables" in the Bible. These parables
are simple stories Jesus used toexplain goodness, kindness, and
love of God. Jesus told one story about a good neighbor. There was
aman who went on a trip from the city of Jerusalem to the city of
Jericho.

Suddenly, robbers came, beat him up, tore his clothes, and left
him lying on the ground. Later, a priest passed by and saw the
beaten man. The priest did not stop help the man. He just

Another man, called a Levite or priest's helper, also came down
the same road. He saw theman lying on the road. "Could he be dead?"
the Levite wondered. But after looking walked awaylike the priest
before him.

A Samaritan man came down the road. When he saw the beaten man,
he felt sorry for himand he stopped to help him. He put oil and
wine on the man's wounds to clean them. The Samaritanput the
wounded man on his donkey and looked for an inn where the wounded
man could rest and getwell.

spend more money on him, I will pay youback when I come again,"

Jesus wants you to do the same thing as the Samaritan did. He
did not know the wounded man anddid not even know why he was lying
on the ground, torn and beaten. But, he did not leave the
man.Instead, the Samaritan helped. The Samaritan went out of his
way to make sure that the wounded manwell cared for.
RISE
The best way to start helping is to PRAY. Pray for your
neighborhood. Pray for the people youmeet or see in your neighbor
for the first time. Ask God to help you love your neighbors and to
showyour more ways to help them.
