Formore than 50 years, DelWebb has listened tohomebuyers age 55 and better, and has evolved to suittheir changing lifestyles. Once again, the company has
been hard at work learningwhat these homebuyers want in ahome. In early November, DelWebbwill introduce 11 new
consumer-inspired floorplans to Britton Falls—onemore stepin that listening/evolving relationship.“PulteGroup [DelWebb’s parent company] is the only
builder that’s doing consumer-inspired floorplans,” said SueMcConochie, a Britton Falls sales counselor. “Theywentthrough a 12-step process to deliver the new floorplans and gotconsumer validation three times before rolling them out.”To do so, PulteGroup built
full-scalemockups then hadfocus groups walk throughthem and give feedback aboutwhat they did and didn’t like;what they wanted andwhatthey would change. Accordingto John Van Beynen, vicepresident of sales for DelWebb’s Indianapolis Division, the new designs incorporatefeatures requested by babyboomers.“Several years of research,
thought and creativity havegone into the design of thesehomes,” Van Beynen said.“These new home plans blend the concepts of universaldesign for ageless living with higher energy efficiency andconnectivity.”
Take your pickEach series—Monterey, Sonoma andNapa—will have
three to four new floorplans that will be built throughoutBritton Falls. The homeswill range from 1,200 square feet tomore than 2,500 square feet. Onemodel from each series willbe constructed for prospective homebuyers to tour.McConochie said the previous floorplans will be
discontinued once the new plans are introduced. ThatmeansBritton Falls’ existingmodel homes are now for sale. Somealready have been snatched up, but several still are available. ■

According to Ron and Cheryl Miles and Keith andAdrienneBorden, serving lasagna to a house full of strangers isa wonderful way to spend an evening. In fact, several
Britton Falls homeowners contributed time, food andmoney lastsummer to give families stayingat the RonaldMcDonald Housein Indianapolis a home-cookedmeal.“It was really a good
experience,” Cheryl said. “Manyof usmoved to Britton Fallsto be close to children andgrandchildren. We saw theeffect of illness on the familiesand how important it is to haveMom andDad close by, takingcare of their children. It washeartbreaking, but we’re so gladwewent.”Serving families at the Ronald
McDonald House is just oneavenue of service Britton Fallshomeowners pursue. Anotheris cultivating old-fashioned pen-pal relationships with studentsat Hamilton Southeastern Junior
High School, which is not far from the community. Participatinghomeowners are paired with eighth-grade English students withwhom they exchangeweekly letters. The pen pals get tomeet eachother at the end of the semester.“It’s an old-fashionedway of communicating,” Cheryl said.

“I love Britton Falls,” Linnesaid. “Living here keepsmeactive andmakes up for nothaving family close by.”Because the community
offers a wide variety of activities, Linne saidit’s easy to be involvedwhile still working—something that Lifestyle Director KimCatellierworks hard to provide.“I try to plan events for evenings andweekends
as well as during the day hours so everyone canparticipate,” Catellier said. From Linne’s viewpoint, that is one of the best
things about living in Britton Falls.■

“That’s why I like it— it’sactually pen to paper.”In September, Britton Falls
homeowners participatedin their first community-organized golf outingsupporting Indiana disabledveterans, and raisedmorethan $5,000 for DAV. Theseopportunities and others areorchestrated by KimCatellier, the community’s lifestyle director.“Kim is really good about planning different things for all of
us to do,” Cheryl said. “We have the opportunity to volunteertime ormoney or whatever is needed.”The Bordens also volunteered at the RonaldMcDonald
House and are excited about being assigned their first pen pals.In addition, Adrienne is on the Britton Falls special eventscommittee, which organizes several major events each year—the NewYear’s Eve party, aWoodstock party andNovemberfest— alongwith helpingwith grandkid events such as Trunk-or-Treat, an Easter egg hunt and the pet parade.“There aremostly women on the committee, but we let the
husbands volunteer, too,” Adrienne said.At that comment, Keith felt the need tomake a clarification: “I
assist with labor such as setting up and dumping trash cans,” hesaid.Obviously it takes both brains and brawn tomake a successful
volunteer duo.■

Low-maintenance living a plusBritton Falls is a low-maintenance community, which means
that the monthly homeowners’ fees cover lawn maintenance andwatering, basic landscaping and snow and trash removal. In otherwords, say goodbye to cutting the grass and fertilizing the lawn.“That is definitely one the big benefits, a big plus of Britton Falls
living,” said homeowner Dan Mitchum.Another benefit is the lock-and-leave concept. Thanks to their
friendships, neighbors watch out for each other’s property whensomeone takes a vacation or winters in a warmer climate.“We just got back from two weeks in Alaska and I didn’t even
think about our house one time while we were gone,” ClaudetteFlora said. “Everybody knows each other and is lookingafter your place when you’re gone.”Mitchum agreed: “The camaraderie makes the ability
to put the garage door down and drive away so mucheasier.”
