Aldermans Courts Municipal ordinances within city limits Justice of the Peace Civil cases for less than $15,000. Criminal cases: certain misdemeanors and most motor vehicle cases Slide 4 Intermediate Courts Family Court All domestic and juvenile cases Court of Common Pleas Civil cases between $15,000- $50,000. All misdemeanors except certain drug-related & traffic offenses. All preliminary hearings in felony cases. Slide 5 High Courts Superior Court Exclusive jurisdiction over felonies and almost all drug offenses. No $ max in civil cases. Intermediate appeals court Chancery Court* All matters relating to equity. Mostly corporate issues, trusts, estates, disputes involving land purchase and ownership, commercial and contractual matters. Slide 6 Supreme Court State's appellate court which receives direct appeals from the Court of Chancery, the Superior Court, and the Family Court. Sets administrative policy for the court system.
