67 additional deaths after review of death certificate data – not new
Deaths involving a reportable disease such as COVID-19 are reported to DPH in two ways:
1. DPH’s epidemiologists 2. Delaware Vital Events Registration
System (or DelVERS)

▸ 32 cases – Already identified as COVID-19 positive in DPH’s surveillance system –report of the person’s death not sent
▸ 26 people – No lab result for COVID-19 in DPH’s surveillance system
▸ 9 people – Previously tested negative for COVID-19, but had COVID-19 or SARS CoV-2 listed as a cause of, or a significant condition contributing to, death on death certificate
Public Health Update
▸ 75% of decedents died in Long-Term Care (LTC) facilities
▸ LTC facilities are required to report COVID-19 deaths to DPH
▸ Investigating which facility/organization did not report to provide additional education to facility/organization
▸ Additional deaths may be added periodically as DPH continues data quality improvements
