Father Martyrsquos Easter Greetings
Dear People of Good Shepherd
As you may recall at Christmas time I wrote a letter for the bulletin about my transfer to our retirement home (St Fidelis Friary in Appleton) So I thought I would do the same for Easter In my room Irsquove displayed that heart-warming collection of messages you sent me titled ldquoGet well Fr Martymdashwe miss yourdquo Then in the fall we had that Sunday when I presided and preached at the Eucharist Itrsquos so heart-warming to know that you continue to hold me in your love and your prayers
So first your ldquoGet Wellrdquo prayers have been wondrously answered My heart is working just fine thanks to the two little pills I take each day and I have no pain or other symptoms Twice a week an exercise trainer comes here and puts us through a 45-minute series of exercises that keep us fit but are not too strenuous
Secondly I notified the diocese here that I am available for Masses confessions etc But because I canrsquot drive any more some-one here or the parish has to pick me up and take me back I also let it be known that I am available here for spiritual direction So I now have five permanent deacons and two who are still in training coming here for spiritual direction every month So I am very happy about that
Also I have a niece and her family and a nephew and his familymdashas well as my sister-in-law--living in this area So they include me in family events
So dear Good Shepherdmdashmay God bless you abundantly for your prayers notes and phone calls Also know that you would be most welcome to visit me heremdashand join us for our good noon-time lunch--(which is really our main meal)
And finallymdashmay God bless you abundantly in this wonderful Easter Season
Listening to Women Ministry
With love Fr Marty
Standing on the rich history of our past and the communion present among us we the members of the Lis-
tening to Women Ministry at Good Shepherd commit ourselves to seeking God who beckons to us from a
future of abundant grace full of challenge and rich in possibility
Our mission is to work toward strengthening the Catholic Church of the future by encouraging a community
where all people are recognized equally and share responsibilities for spiritual growth
To fulfill our mission we seek Godrsquos grace to (1) nurture ourselves on our spiritual journeys (2) create
more equality within our parish community and (3) more fully share equal responsibilities for spiritual
growth within the Catholic Church We also seek ways to learn from religions traditions that have embraced
equality and thrive because of their ability to see and honor the image and likeness of God in all of creation
To sustain our ministry outside of our monthly meetings we have developed a virtual island of sanity where
members post reflections readings and prayers
Joyce Guinn and Sister Virgine Lawinger formed the Listening to Women Ministry in August 2018
Women of all ages are welcome to join the ministry Currently 22 women meet on the third Wednesday of
every month at Good Shepherd from 6-715pm For more information please contact Joyce Guinn

Carrie Fisher said One of the things that baffles me is how there can be so much lingering stigma with regards to mental illness specifically bipolar disorder In my opinion living with manic depression takes a tremendous amount of nerves Not unlike a tour of duty in Afghanistan (though the bombs and bullets in this case come from the inside) At times being bipolar can be an all-consuming challenge requiring a lot of stamina and even more courage so if youre living with this illness and functioning at all its something to be proud of not ashamed of They should issue medals along with the steady stream of medications

Live in Love
Our Generations of Faith (GoF) year is quickly coming to a close We will have our year end celebration on the weekend of May
1819 Over this past year we have looked at the history of Good Shepherd through the art in our parish environment Where did
the various things come from when did they become part of our space The tabernacle Beatitude windows the 7 crosses the
Mary statue the Matthew 25 paintings and the stained glass windows created by Ralph Erdtmann among others were examined
and discussed We looked at the Gospel of Luke which is the primary gospel of Cycle C which we are in this year We talked about
what the Church teaches about Mary We had an eveningmorning of reflection retreat an experience of the prayer of Adoration
of the Eucharist and we spent some time preparing for Lent just to name a few of topics covered this year
We saw an increase to 81 households involved in GoF up from 70 last year the largest number of households in many years We
hope to see that growth continue in the year ahead One of the elements that is important is the adult formation that is part of
our program Each month the adults involved get the opportunity to reflect on their faith and even share what they believe with
other adults In GoF we begin our planning by thinking about the adults and then we adapt what we plan for them to the young
people who will be with us It is adult formation that incorporates children and youth not the other way around
Thanks to all those who volunteered to help this year and to all the participants that make each month a labor of love for those of
us who plan the session

Based on this definition you are likely anxious to get into the garden and start planting Just like in Lent you stayed away from certain habits Siting back and letting the plant continue its journey is all we can do for now Letting the plant do its thing is sometimes the best course of action for your dormant plants
Do not assume the plants are dead Many perennials are ldquoroot hardy ldquo which means that although the foliage and stems are dead the plants will regrow from the root system In spring take a deep breath and relax letting nature unfold since some-times nothing is the best course of action
Give the plants time to regrow from the roots before pulling them out and replacing them See what new growth emerges and prune after you can see the true damage Sit back and fan-tasize their ultimate glory
As soon as those temperatures return to a comfortable level remove any coverings you have in place Keep some old bed sheets available since you may have to cover your plants again
You can actually forget any chemicals for taking care of those weeds
The following ingredients will kill any unwanted weeds and grass and will be safe for you any animals and the environ-ment

Step 1 Decide to improve your health through proper nutrition
Step 2 Acquire knowledge to help make a lifestyle change Sweets and refined carbohydrates are addictive and harmful to the human body The food industries spike our foods with sugar and this caus-es us to become addicted In addition as the whole food is pro-cessed it is stripped of its nutritional value to extend its shelf life which increases the food industries profits but depletes our health
Step 3 Clean out the pantry and refrigerator by removing un-healthy foods Some unhealthy foods include wheat sugar corn syrup white rice artificial sweeteners processed meats processed foods and soft drinks
Step 4 Purchase healthy food Plan your menu and grocery list and buy healthy foods God gave us a vast variety of fruits vegetables nuts seeds and grains to nourish our bodies These wholesome foods can replace processed items that the food industry wants us to consume
Step 5 Begin changing your eating habits Now that you cleaned out the pantry bought nutritious food and planned your menu start weaning yourself off harmful products Only drink water and a glass or two of tea or coffee Stop eating wheat and any processed foods
Step 6 Prepare and eat foods differently than you did before Fol-low the healthy eating guidelines listed below
- Buy organic fruits vegetables and meats
- About 50 percent of your food should be fresh organic vegeta-bles
- Eat a couple of servings of raw vegetables every day
- Plan for 25 percent of your food to be an animal or vegetable pro-tein such as beans nuts lean meats and fish
Step 7 Improve your health through continuing this new lifestyle As you incorporate these seven steps into your life your energy level and health improve and you lose weight Live the abundant life Jesus wants you to experience by continuing this lifestyle change for the rest of your life Jesus told us ldquoThe thieflsquos purpose is to steal kill and destroy My purpose is to give life in all its full-nessrdquo John 1010 (NLT) Are you living life to its fullness If not are you ready to take steps necessary to birth a new you May God bless you on your journey to improve your health
