On Monday 7th March and Tuesday 8th March Dubbo College Delroy Campus will be participating in a

forum with MCE Education Consultancy. Teachers, SASS, Students, Parents, and Community members

will all participate in this forum over the 2 days. At the end of the forum the school will receive a detailed report with

Science News: Year 7 are now hard at work trying to solve the murder of Alex Smith. They are

analysing the evidence left at the crime scene using scientific separation techniques

like filtration, evaporation, magnetic separation, chromatography and distillation. So

far, we have been able to use our scientific processes to link two different suspects to

the murder of Alex Smith. Good job Year 7.

Year 10 Science students are

now well underway in learning

about the proper “Scientific

Method” that needs to be used in

writing high quality scientific

reports. Some students have been

experimenting with different

chemicals to see if they interfere

with the surface tension of water.

This can be measured by

counting how many drops of

water can fit onto a coin.

SUPPORT TERM 1 Pink Class have had a great start to 2016 and have leapt into

their schoolwork with enthusiasm.

Over the last few weeks the class has been working on a

unit of work in Geography called "Investigating the World".

Students have looked at the world, its continents and oceans

and have painted a world map for display in the room.

Students have also been learning about the Four Spheres and

how they operate and depend on one another to maintain

balance in the world.

Red, Green, Purple and Pink classes’ introduction to the kitchen

All IM and MC classes prepared fruit salad with yogurt this week and showed off their impressive food preparation skills.

They followed safety and hygiene skills in the domestic and commercial kitchens and will be cooking some exciting

things over 2016! Ms Holly Cronk Support Teacher

Canadian Scholarship Trust (CST)

Nostalgist

Get out your flux capacitors, and rev up that DeLorean, folks.

That’s right: in the future, we’re going back. In 2030, it’s

predicted that wealthy retirees will seek the design expertise of

nostalgists – interior designers who specialise in decorating living

spaces inspired by their clients’ favourite decades.

Wealthy seniors won’t have to put up with generic retirement

village settings or be forced to keep up with modern design trends.

Instead, they can hire a nostalgist to design a space that helps them

relive a happier time in their lives.

And studies have shown that a time-warped interior actually can

make seniors feel and act younger. A famous Harvard experiment conducted in the 1980s found that when a small cohort of

70 year olds spent time living as if it were 1959 – surrounded by ‘50s books, music, TV shows and sports – they emerged

feeling as they did 22 years ago. They felt younger (and, according to independent judges, even looked younger!), showed

greater manual dexterity and even had their sight improve.

With an ageing population, it appears nostalgists may soon be in hot demand. According to CST, the role of a nostalgist is a

blend of ‘therapist, interior designer and historical researcher,’ where the aim is to recreate ‘the effect that living in a

particular time had on the people of that time.’

Careers Happenings During PBL classes throughout the year I will be taking Year 10 students to get a

résumé completed. My goal is to have all Year 10 a working résumé by the end of Year 10. Most students are unaware that

they have their own school emails or fail to use them. Students can access their emails at home by just typing in google

“student portal login”. I have emailed Year 9 and 10 students through résumé templates so they can get started on their

résumés as well as Careers News of which there are 15 issues a year. Careers News contains part time employment

opportunities, TAFE and University information, Jobs for the Future, Scholarships and Career profiles.

Please like our Dubbocollegecareers face book page where you can get information on upcoming events and current

positions available for part time work and positions vacant.

Dubbo College Careers also has its own web page

www.Dubbocollegecareers.com Students can register in the

student secure area and type their own résumés. There is also

information on ADFA, Work Experience, videos on occupations and much more.

We have also paid a subscription to the website

www.jobjump.com all students at Delroy are free to

register select Dubbo College Delroy Campus and your

year group. Password is “rams”. This website has

occupation information, videos etc. Students can also select occupations they

are interested in and it will email them automatically information that comes in about their chosen occupation.

iTrack Career mentoring program run by the Smith Family that supports students who are beginning the post school plans.

This program will be running again this year in Terms 2 and 3 on Fridays. Students are asked to collect a permission note

from the Library counter if they are interested. This program will target Year 9 and 10 students. I need 8 students to run this

program.

Year 10 this term will make the Get Real Pledge. Delory has already completed all the lessons that surround this program.

The signing of the pledge board ceremony will be held on 16th March held at the Senior Campus: The pledge is as follows:

I willingly commit myself to participate in the Get Real Program and undertake that by my 17th birthday, I will:

* Be in full-time education in school or TAFE * Be undertaking industry training or

* Be in full-time employment

Work experience is also available for Year 10 students who have completed the work readiness program last year. Year 10

students who need to complete this are to see me.

Drama ONSTAGE Drama Excursion 2016

Enthusiastic Drama students travelled to Sydney earlier this term to participate and experience the best year 12 Drama

‘ONSTAGE’ performances in the state. All three campuses were lucky enough to experience two shows featuring HSC

performances at the Seymour Centre at Sydney University. They showcased Individual Performances and Group Perfor-

mances (IPs & GPs) where our students were able to see what a high quality (Band 6) performance actually looks like.

Students also participated in a range of workshops with a view of Sydney Harbour in the background down at Walsh Bay

at ATYP – Australian Theatre for Young People. Activities were based on improvising, play building and the voice. They

also put on a show for us to watch in their intimate theatre that night. A backstage tour of the Sydney Theatre Company

also displayed the multifaceted aspects of what happens for a show to occur – lighting, props, set and design. The packed

three day excursion was an amazing opportunity for students to experience not only Drama, but the differing jobs and

opportunities there are within the arts.

Make sure you get in for next year; we will be planning the ONSTAGE excursion again for early next year!

EASTER SEMINAR There will be an Easter Seminar Tuesday 15th March at Delroy Campus during lunch and

Lorraine Moodley Scripture Teacher

Visual Art Year 7 have been busy creating numerous portraits of ‘self’ this term. Al-

ready, students have completed a self-portrait focusing on the proportions

of the face. This was completed in pencil before adding watercolour for

aesthetic purposes. These works turned out to be fantastic! Year 7 will now

look into artist Del Kathryn Barton and her artmaking practices. Students

will be completing a self-portrait using similar or same practices as Barton.

Year 8 have been busy understanding the difference between Graffitti Art

and Street Art. After investigating the significance of signs and symbols to

create meaning, students designed their very own ‘Tag’ as you can see the many examples of student works provided. They

are also busy researching artists such as Banksy, Ghost Patrol, Miso and Andy Warhol (just to name a few) ready to con-

struct a stencil of themselves as a work. The aim is for students to gain the

knowledge regarding different forms of printmaking. By the end of the term

students will have explored stencil making, Lino Printing and layering

techniques to create a series of works for assessment.

In the coming weeks, all Visual Art students will commence work on their

theory assessments for the term. Each class will be given the opportunity to

complete this assessment task in a computer lab. It is up to the child/student

to use their recess and/or lunch to complete this task if they are absent from

class and may not have internet/Microsoft word or a computer at home.

Year 9/10 Photography Class This term, the photography class will be operating in the darkroom for numerous practical lesson creating Photograms as

well as developing images they will photograph using a Pinhole camera, which they will construct themselves.

The students have been instructed to bring to school a container or tin can that completely seals (no light can pass through).

From this object they will construct their own pinhole camera to take photographs.

An example of a homemade

Pinhole Camera using a

cardboard box.

How it all works

Photography students, don’t forget to bring a box/tin/container of some sort for your pinhole camera. Also, you will

need personal items to create your photograms. These items need to be transparent in some way. They need to reflect

on a frame also (subjective, cultural, postmodern or structural). Which will you base yours on?
