What are hurricanes?Hurricanes are the most violent windstorms on Earth. People do not know what the difference is between hurricanes and tornadoes. They are similar in looks but they are different in their own ways. Hurricanes occur on water like the ocean or sea while tornadoes are on the ground.
Where do hurricanes occur?Only tropical cyclones that form over the Atlantic Ocean or eastern Pacific Ocean are called hurricanes. Although they are called differently, they all form the same way. Tropical cyclones form only over warm ocean water near the equator
How do hurricanes
form? When warm air rises, it causes an area of low air pressure below it. The air from the surrounding areas with higher air pressure goes into the low air pressure area, that air becomes warm and moist and eventually rises. As it rises the surrounding air, swirls in.
The warm, moist air cools off and the water in the air forms clouds. The clouds and winds spins and grows because of the ocean’s heat and water evaporating from the surface. The storm rotates faster and faster.
An eye forms in the middle of the hurricane. Inside the eye, it’s very calm, clear and has very low air pressure in the eye. Higher air pressure from above flows into the
