“Ambition”

This is an exciting time for our company. Not only did we release a new issue of Denovo, but later in this month we are scheduled to release our new sister magazine entitled 75ive. If you follow the industry percentage you know that

there are very few people of diverse ethnic origin truly working in this business. It is our intention to make a small change to those numbers, which is figured by some count to be less than 25 percent on the high end. We know that we alone can’t change the world or the perception of what speaks to beauty and fashion. However what we can do is make a positive change by introducing a new magazine that will feature more people from that very small 25 percent. The second title is in no means intended to take away from our readers of Denovo, but to further enhance the ability of those who truly wish to be recognized as talent.I would love to share more, but right now my focus is on telling you what to look for in this issue of Denovo. This month we have more than just editorials from Australia we also have Noise from Drissen, who wants you to “Turn it Loud” Staying on the continent we feature Appell-tion at the Louise in our Grub section, which is well know for fresh food and great wine. Nick Torres and his team of talent round out our tour or Australia with the only game worth playing, Solitaire. Making the hop back to the good old USA we thought we would remind you that not everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Thrust me when I tell you our good friend Roman Gorchakov has something wild in store for you.

Newcomer Di Henri Aquije brought us a Night at The Pub that should be enjoyed shak-en not stirred. Another newcomer to the magazine Dalton Louis tells a wonderful story of the change of seasons and earths Rite of Spring. Love and Desire is always hot when seen through the lens of our very talented Philipe, standard law of attraction ap-plies as you won’t be able to resist turning every page of Denovo this month.

Growing up in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia the Driessen brothers Cameron and Clayton were always surrounded by great music. Their grandmother was an opera singer and their father was a singer and bass player in the family band. It only natural being brought up in a family of entertainers, that they too would join in the family business of music.

After years of performing all over Australia the group made the leap into the US market. In 2008 they were given the opportunity to travel to Orlando Florida and work with Gary Carrola, the multi platinum producer of the Backstreet Boys, N*SYNC and Aaron Carter. How-ever after returning to Australia and many more shows the group decided to disband and pursue solo careers.

Later that year the Driessen brothers decided to go back to per-forming as a duo known as C&C. In their first year of writing they achieved great results, an won a songwriters award at the “Easys” with the song titled The Darkness. In July 2010 Sean Rowe, helped launch Driessens smash single Never That Feat. Yung Joc at the Luxe Lounge in Houston, Texas. In 2011 they followed up with two more singles currently available on itunes titled “It’s time to go” and ”Turn it loud”

After several name changes the brother duo now called Driessen, is making quite a name for themselves.

Page 19: Denovo

In 2012 Driessen is looking forward to heading back to the US to promote and perform new singles from their coming album. Performance dates will be released on all of Driessen’s social media sites closer to the middle of the year.

Spring is here and this is what you’ll see in full bloom this season. This spring is all about clean faces, red lips, cat eyes, strong brows, flushed cheeks, white silver metallic shades, and pops of color on lids.

• Clean faces are an ongoing trend this spring. Just flawless skin and an emphasis of either the lips, brows, eyes, or cheeks. Moisturize, conceal, and foundation!

• Red lips are carrying over from winter, but all shades will been seen from burgundies, bights, coral-reds, orange-reds, and red gloss. Always re-member with red lipstick, you can see everything, so use a lip pencil and lip brush to make sure your lipstick is on straight. Blot too, bright colored lipsticks tend to find its way onto your teeth.

• Flicked out, winged liner, cat eyes are also migrating to Spring this time the liner is either very small and subtle or just the opposite, extremely exagger-ated. Get your liquid liner ready this spring.

• Strong brows rocked with a clean face. Define and fill your brows with a similar brow color or a shade darker eye shadow. For a natural fuller look deposit the eye shadow throughout your brow and brush through it with a brow brush. For a more dramatic defined look use an eyebrow pencil or an angled brush with eye shadow to fill your brows.

• Flushed cheeks, sun kissed cheeks is a quick way to make you look brighter in seconds. You can use cream brush dabbed on your cheeks and smoothed in with your fingers for a quick dewy flush look.

Once upon a timeThe beautiful Persephone

while playing in a flowery meadow was seized by Haides and carried off to the underworld as his bride.

Her mother Demeter despaired at her disappearance and refused to let the earth fruit until

Persephone was returned.

The powerful Zeus consented...but because the girl had tasted

of the food of Haides she was forced to forever spend a part of the year

with her husband in the underworld.

Mortals...thank the Gods for her annual return to earth.

Rejoice and Enjoy!

Edward Henry Weston began photographing at the age of sixteen after receiv-ing a Bull’s Eye #2 camera from his father. In 1906, following the publication of his first photograph in Camera and Darkroom, Weston moved to California

to embark on his professional life

In 1911, Weston opened his own portrait studio in Tropico, California. This would be his base of operation for the next two decades. In 1922 Weston visited the ARMCO Steel Plant in Middletown, Ohio. The photographs taken there marked a turning point in Weston’s career. During this period, Weston renounced his Pictorialism style with a new emphasis on abstract form and sharper resolution of detail. Weston later wrote, “The camera should be used for a recording of life, for rendering the very substance and quintessence of the thing itself, whether it be polished steel or palpitating flesh.”

In 1923 Weston moved to Mexico City where he opened a photographic studio with his apprentice and lover Tina Modotti. Many important portraits and nudes were taken during his time in Mexico. It was also here that famous artists; Diego Rivera, David Siqueiros, and Jose Orozco hailed Weston as the master of 20th century art. Weston soon after moved back to California in 1926, and began his work for which he is most deservedly famous: natural forms, close-ups, nudes, and landscapes.

Between 1927 and 1930, Weston made a series of monumental close-ups of seashells, peppers, and halved cabbages, bringing out the rich textures of their sculpture-like forms. Weston moved to Carmel, California in 1929 and shot the first of many photographs of rocks and trees at Point Lobos, California. During this time frame Weston would become one of the founding members of Group f/64 along with Ansel Adams, Willard Van Dyke, Imogen Cunningham and Sonya Noskowiak.

1936 marked the start of Weston’s series of nudes and sand dunes in Oceano, California, which are often considered some of his finest work. Weston became the first photographer to receive a Guggenheim Fellowship for experimental work in 1936. Following the receipt of this fellowship Weston spent the next two years taking photographs in the West and Southwest United States with assistant and future wife Charis Wilson. Later, in 1941 using photographs of the East and South Weston provided illustrations for a new edition of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass.

Weston’s 50th Anniversary Portfolio was published in 1952 and in 1956 The Smithsonian Institution held the show, “The World of Edward Weston” paying tribute to his remarkable accomplishments in American photography. After a full life Edward Weston died on January 1, 1958 at his home, Wildcat Hill, in Car-mel, California. Weston’s ashes were scattered into the Pacific Ocean at Pebbly Beach Point Lobos.

A P R I LARIES(Mar 21-Apr 19)

You have vibrant health this month with the Sun and Mars in your 6th house of Health and Employment. You could gain some huge per-sonal satisfaction for your job as well. You will also be supported by the committed other in your life in these endeavors. You will however, have to mind closely what you say this month, especially around the 22nd, when you could step in it up to your knee. The sun changes sign into Libra on the 21st, the Equinox and the first day of Fall, and your attention will be drawn to that committed other. You will probably want to spend as much time as possible with this person as you reap the seeds of love planted back in the spring

yourself and cause health problems, as current plan-etary configurations indicate they might be difficult to diagnose and treat. When the Sun changes signs into Libra, your 2nd house of Money and Values on the 21st, the money focus is re-doubled. You may find you have more in resources than you had counted on.

LIBRA(Sept 23-Oct 22)With the Sun in your 12th house of “behind the scenes” activity, you may choose to sit back and relax. Time to reflect on the past year. Having Mars there as well could mean your en-ergy level is truly at low tide. Your ruling planet Venus is in your 1st house of Self and this could draw romance to you. With Uranus and Neptune in your 5th house of Romance the chances are even greater. Jupiter throws a dreamy light on it all from the 11th house of Hopes and Wishes for a very pleasant time for you. The energy starts to return when the Sun crosses into Libra around the 21st. There is something of a warning here, the Sun combines with Mercury and you many lose sight of your identity for the day on the 28th.

SCORPIO(Oct 23-Nov 21)July should be a very happy time for you. The Sun and Mars are in your 11th house of Hopes and Wishes fir-ing the imagination with thoughts of the future and the possibilities it could bring. Look for surprises around the home front this month. They could really be great. Your career also will be getting a major boost for the next year with Jupiter,

TAURUS(Apr 20-May 20)Romance is all over you this month with the Sun and Mars in your 5th house of Romance and Creativity. You’ll be feeling very sexy with that Mars influence. Just be careful it doesn’t get out of control around the 22nd. An interest on the job could sweep you off your feet on the 4th, but it can fall apart just as quickly. And, then again… With Saturn in you 2nd house of Money and Values, be care-ful about over spending with regards to these romantic inclinations.

GEMINI(May 21-June 21)With the Sun and Mars in your 4th house of Home, you may feel the need for redecorating. This could be a sword that cuts both ways this month. Pluto, the planet of rebirth, isn’t all that happy with your plans and could work against you on the 7th and the 22nd. On the 22nd when you may feel com-pletely frustrated with your-self. This is coming from the planet Saturn, the Restric-tor, placed firmly in your 1st house of Self. Think things through carefully before be-ginning.The Sun changes signs into Libra on the 21st, providing you with new ro-mantic opportunities during the last week of the month. Anything started during that time will find ample support next month. Lucky you

CANCER(June 22-July 22)With the Sun and Mars in your 3rd house of Commu-nication and Short Trips, you’ll be the busy little bea-ver this month running here and there and talking all the time. Endless chatter.

Careful around the 7th as something you say on the job could get you into hot water. Be especially careful on the 22nd, as taking your eyes from the road for just a moment could result in an accident. After the Sun changes signs into Libra on the 21st, you will find you are drawn to the home front more than usual. You could feel the urge to change or add something to your living space. Neptune and Uranus in your 8th house of Shared Resources supports you in any change you with to make, especially if it’s eclec-tic and artsy.

LEO(July 23-Aug 22)You’re a busy person this month with the Sun and Mars in your 2nd house of Money and Values. They may be up for review at this time and you could find yourself in a bit of a re-vamping mood. This could cause problems on the 7th and 22nd as people around you may react with resis-tance to those changes. Just keep your cool and remember that Mercury in your 3rd house of Communi-cation this month helps you to express your aims and reasons effectively. After the 21st the Sun changes signs into Libra, to further assist in expressing yourself.

VIRGO(Aug 23-Sept 22This month you are enliv-ened by the Sun and Mars in your 1st house of Self. You will be filled with energy. Your mind will probably be on money matters and how to accumulate more through your employment. There could be some surprises in that category as well. The caution is not to overextend

with Neptune, the deceiver, you could have a jolt or two where money is concerned. With influences from Jupi-ter, Venus and Mercury, I’ll wager they will be to your benefit.

AQUARIUS(Jan 20-Feb18)Have you been watching the family budget? If you haven’t, you will. It will be your key focus this month, but not in a burdensome way. You may surprise your-self at your own creativity when it comes to juggling the checkbook and financial responsibilities this month. Jupiter in your 7th house of committed relationships urges your partner to as-sist in these matters. Look for that help to continue for the next year. After the 21st, the Sun moves into your 9th house of long distance travel and higher thinking. If it doesn’t get you out on the road, it will get you traveling in your mind. Either way, it promotes a pleasant learn-ing experience.

PISCES(Feb 19-Mar 20)The Sun and Mars occupy your 7th house of commit-ted relationships this month and you will have ample en-ergy in that area. Problems or old grievances could surface and you will have to deal with them. You’ll do just fine if you keep your head. Venus and Mercury in your 8th house of shared finances bode well for the month. Just don’t go on a spending spree around the 23rd. With the Sun moving into that house you may feel you have enough to spend without regard, only to find out later, you didn’t.

the Santa Claus planet, in your house of career and public standing. By the last week of July, you may feel you energy level slipping and you feel the urge to retreat from life for a time. However, with Venus slip-ping into your 1st house of Self don’t be surprised to find a romantic interest or two hovering about.

SAGITARIUS(Nov 22- Dec 21)The career sector of your chart is ablaze this month. The Sun and Mars, both fire planets, light up the fire-works in your 10th house of Career for a great time and a time for real advancement. Your mind is going with the possibilities for the future with Mercury and Venus planted firmly in the house of Hopes and Wishes. With Saturn in last degrees of the 7th house of partnerships, relationship issues will prob-ably be a major motivating force for the next year. The Sun moves into your 11th house of Hopes and Wishes after the 21st to help get you focused on what you want in life for the next year.

CAPRICORN(Dec 22-Jan 19)If you are looking for that va-cation, now is the time. Pack those bags and don’t look back. Plan well, so that after the 14th you make it home without incident. More than likely, the call to return will come for obligations in the employment/career area. This will be a time for you to shine especially after the 21st, when the Sun enters you house of career. Also, watch those purse strings this month. With Uranus, the planet of surprises good and bad, in your 2nd house of Money and Values, along
