    Density

You need DENSITY, you have MASSand VOLUME:

Example: Calculate the density for the following object. If you know that the object has a mass of 20. grams

and the volume is 10. ml.

    ()=

    =

    20.10.

    = 2.0 /

You need VOLUME, you have MASSand DENSITY:

    2. Calculate the volume for the following object If you know that the object has a mass of 21.0 grams and the

    density is 12.0 g/ml.

    /=

    /=

    21.0

    12.0 /= 1.75

You need MASS, you have DENSITYand VOLUME:

    3. Calculate the mass for the following object. If you know that the object has a density of 20.0 g/ml and the

    volume is 5.00 ml.

    (3) = / 3

    20.0 5.00 = 100.

You need DENSITY, you have VOLUMEand MASSof empty beaker and MASSof beaker and liquid:

    4. Calculate the density of a liquid in a beaker. The beaker has a mass of 15 grams when empty. The beaker

plus an unknown liquid has a mass of 50. grams. What is the density of the liquid if its volume is 10. mL?

    50.g-15g/ 10.ml= 3.5 g/ml

    ( ) = /

    (50. 15.) 10. = 3.5 /

You need DENSITY, you have MASSand VOLUME(derived from object dimensions):

    5. Calculate the density of a piece of metal. The rectangular piece of solid metal has the dimensions of 2.0 cm,

3.0 cm, and 2.0 cm. The unidentified metal has a mass of 40. grams.

    ( ) = /3

    40. (2.0 3.0 2.0 ) = 3.3 /3

    Remember that cm3

and mL are volume measurements that express the same

    volume; expressing density in g/cm3

or g/mL is essentially the same.
