Examinations and Grading System

The candidate who obtains 40% and more marks of the total marks of a subject head shall be deemed to have passed the respective subject head.

The performance of a student shall be documented by a letter grade. Each letter grade has a Grade Point associated with it. The total marks (in-semester + end-semester) of a candidate in a subject head are converted into a letter grade, based on the relative performance of the student.

Letter Grade EX AA AB BB BC CC CD DD DE EE Grade Point 10 9.5 9.0 8.5 8.0 7.5 7.0 6.5 6.0 5.0

Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) & Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

A SGPA & CGPA will be computed as follows:

𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆 =(∑ 𝑐𝑐𝑖𝑖𝑔𝑔𝑖𝑖𝑛𝑛

𝑖𝑖=1 )(∑ 𝑐𝑐𝑖𝑖𝑛𝑛

𝑖𝑖=1 ) 𝐶𝐶𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆𝑆 =∑ 𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑖𝑚𝑚𝑖𝑖=1 𝑐𝑐𝑖𝑖∑ 𝑐𝑐𝑖𝑖𝑚𝑚𝑖𝑖=1

Where ‘n’ is the number of subjects for the semester, ‘ci’ is the number of credits allotted to a particular subject, ‘gi’, is the grade points awarded to the student for the subject based on his performance as per the above table, ‘si’, is the SGPA of that semester.

Examination Scheme

The University has adopted continuous assessment credit based system to evaluate the performance of the student. There will be a mid-semester examination of 30 marks, internal assessment of 20 marks and end semester examination of 50 marks. The laboratory courses are assessed on continuous basis. Internal Assessment of 20 Marks For each course there is an internal weightage of 20 marks. The assessment tool may include Quiz, Assignments, Mini-projects, Presentations, Surprise Tests, Seminar, Attendance, etc.Depending upon the course outcomes, teacherwill select the suitable and effective toolfor assessment. Accordingly, teachermay fix up the weightage for each or some of the effective tools. All these tools assessment needs to be planned and executed in accordance with examination schedule of the department.

Alumni Meet

Department organizes Alumni meet regularly. Recently it was organized by department on 06th April 2016.About sixty fivealumni attend the event and shared their experience. They shared their experience as well as interesting moments of their campus life to the audience. They also shared their expectations from the department and hope they can contribute for the development of the department. An interaction session was organized with alumni so that students get proper guidance for the various opportunities after engineering, preparations for various exams like GATE, GRE, TOEFL, and research opportunities.

Students WelfareDepartment has Parent Teacher Association. The feedback taken from the parents is considered for appropriate corrections/ improvements in the system so as to improve quality of the education.

Department also has Guidance and Counseling Cells for Counseling of the needful and students.
