INTRODUCTION

Pathology department is one of the key departments of the hospital as far as diagnostic

services are concerned. It comprises of different sections like Surgical Pathology (Histopathology),

Cytology, Hematology, Clinical Laboratory & Autopsy & Blood Bank. Pathology department is the

link between the patient & doctor in the diagnostic & prognostic workup. As it receives the

investigations from all the clinical departments it is the largest department of the institute.

Now a day department has also upgraded itself to provide the special investigations like

immunohistochemistry, Sickle cell laboratory etc. Apart from patient care the department is also

involved in teaching MBBS, BDS, BPMT, Nursing, DMLT & P.G. students. There is a lot of

research work going on in the department also. The hospital based death audit is regularly conducted

by the dept. & the causes are discussed with the concerned department. In the interdepartmental

work histopath of medico legal postmortems is performed by Pathology department.

“To provide prompt & quality services in diagnosis of the patient & to help students in

gaining knowledge, acquiring skills & developing attitudes.”

VISION

The vision of the department is to provide high quality laboratory & services & get them

accredited. And to provide excellent teaching facilities for the U.G. & P.G. students. Upgrading the

department & establishing speciality services like Flow Cytometry, Cryostat & LBC.
