1-Programme aims:
The aim of this programme is to build the competencies of the academic staff
members, to undertake comprehensive up-to-date practices of Public Health and
Preventive Medicine in a professional manner, to apply basics and strategies of
scientific research and to gain the aquired awareness with recent advances in Public
Health & Preventive Medicine and their ….applications .
2- Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs):
By the end of the MD programme in Public Health &Preventive Medicine the
candidate will be able to:
A- Knowledge and Understanding
KU1. Define health, determinants of health, disease, community medicine &
general medicine and the importance of community medicine.
KU2. Explain research methodology & Study statistics and vital rates.
KU3. Discuss different terminology in epidemiology of communicable diseases,
non-communicable diseases and different methods of prevention & control.
KU4. Discuss social science & its relation to health.
KU5. Describes different nutrients and its relation to health and disease.
KU 6. Discuss advances in public health.
KU 7. Explain health care management and quality principles & tools.
KU 8. Describe different health care systems in Egypt, the policy of ministry of
health and population.
KU 9. Discuss different causes of insanitary environment & its hazards on health
status.
KU10. Identify occupational hazards on health & different programs in prevention
and control of these health hazards.

KU11. Explain the basics and ethics of scientific research and public health
branches.
KU12. Describes Violence, smoking, globalization, and poverty and their impact
on health and genetics in public health .

Obtain Master Degree in Public Health & preventive medicine (MSc).
8- Regulations for progression and programme completion
At the end of 1st Academic Year (PCMD 01)
* Fulfillment of the of log book (Attendance, effective discussion in seminars,
performance in practical lab and summer activity).
* Pass Examination of the course of prerequisite.

Prerequistite: - passing the written exam of publ 11 course Registration of the
MD thesis protocol.
*Registration for Public health (MDTH).
*Pass examination of course PCMD 02.

of the supervisors report every 3 months.
* perform a seminar about the thesis results.
* Acceptance of the MD thesis from judgment committee nominated by
department council after public discussion & publication of scientific paper
from the thesis is a must for awarding the MD degree .

NB: Examinations are conducted twice yearly (May & December).
MDTH *- Preregistration seminar
*- Registration of the thesis title.
*- Perform the thesis within at least 6 months of registration.
*- After finishing the MD thesis Candidate perform a seminar about the thesis results.
*- Three progression reports are introduced by each supervisor (one every 3 months).
*- MD thesis acceptance by the supervisors.
*- MD thesis acceptance by the judgment committee in an advertised public session by
three professors including one of the supervisors, one from the faculty and third
from other faculty.
*- Four copies of the thesis must be given to the postgraduate library.
14- Rules for awarding the MD Degree in Public Health:
* Candidates must pass the final exam of course PCMD 01 as a prerequest to registrate the
MD thesis and course PCMD 02.
* Candidates must pass the final exam of course PCMD 02 (at least 60% ).
*MD thesis must be accepted by the judgment committee following Publishing a scientific
paper after attending the final exam of Publ 12 For awarding the MD degree.
