8:15 a.m. “Forgotten Survivors: Addressing the Unique Needs of Women with Metastatic Breast Cancer” KEYNOTE SPEAKER – LILLIE SHOCKNEY RN BS MAS CBCN CBPN-C is Administrative Director of the Johns Hopkins Breast Center. She is a University Distinguished Service Associate Professor of Breast Cancer. She is Associate Professor of Surgery and of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is Associate Professor at Johns HopkinsUniversitySchoolofNursing.Sheisacertified breast care nurse by the Oncology Nursing Society and a certifiedbreastpatientnavigatorbytheNational Consortium of Breast Centers, Inc. She is the breast cancer expert for national ABC News and Good Morning America. She received her BS in health care administration from Saint Joseph’s College and her MAS from Johns Hopkins University. Her research focus is quality life for survivors as well as women with metastatic disease. She has received 39 awards for her work in breast cancer (35 national and 4 states including being inducted in the Maryland women hall of fame). She has authored 14 books and more than 200 articles on breast cancer. Dr. Shockney, who is a two-time breast cancer survivor, was recognized by Johnson & Johnson during the 2011 CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute show in Los Angeles.

HOSKINS MD is Associate Professor of Medicine, Division Hematology/Oncology at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Director of the Familial Breast Cancer program in the UIC Cancer Center. He is Medical Director of the Cancer Risk Assessment Program at OSF Saint Anthony Medical CenterinRockford,IL.HeisboardcertifiedinInternal Medicine with a sub-specialty in Medical Oncology. Dr. Hoskins participates in a number of important research projects and has published articles in many distinguished medical journals and speaks nationally on breast cancer genetics.

NEWMAN MD MPH is a surgical oncologist, Professor of Surgery and Director of the Breast Care Center for the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she also serves as Program Director for the Breast Fellowship. She holds a masters degree in Public Health from Harvard University. She is Adjunct Professor of Surgery with M.D. Anderson. Her primary research has focused on ethnicity-related variation in breast cancer risk and outcome, evaluation and management of high-risk patients; broadened applications for neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and special surgical techniques such as the skin-sparing mastectomy and lymphatic mapping/sentinel lymph node biopsy.

2:40 p.m. “Update on Surgical Treatment Options” NORA M. HANSEN MD is Director of the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center, Prentice Women’s Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She is Associate Professor of Surgery, Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. Prior to coming to Lynn Sage, Dr. Hansen spent eight years at the John Wayne Cancer Institute, where she was Associate Director of the Joyce Eisenberg Keefer Breast Center. Dr. Hansen is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and holds memberships and committee positions in many national surgical and surgical oncology associations.

generAl InformAtIonIntended AudiencePhysicians, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, nurses, surgical technologists, radiologic technologists, occupational and physicaltherapistsandmedicalofficestaffinallspecialties.Program OverviewThe sole objective of this symposium is to educate all physicians and healthcare personnel regarding the current diagnosis and treat-ment of breast cancer in a comprehensive, multidisciplinary fashion.Through this CME activity, the participant should better understand theories and facts related to the development of breast cancer, current imaging and diagnostic modalities, surgical treatment, adjuvant therapies of chemotherapy and radiation, breast reconstruction, and managing patients with breast cancer. This activity will also educate the participants about breast cancer from a multidisciplinary approach. This symposium hopes to help physicians and healthcare personnel reach a better understanding related to all aspects of breast cancer and how we all may contribute to help individuals overcome this disease while maximizing quality of life.Educational Objectives • Definetheincidenceandtypesofpremalignantbreastdisease and breast cancer. • Examine risk factors that impact the development of breast cancer. • Identify the radiological contribution of mammography, ultra- sound, MRI, PET scanning and new technology to the diagnosis, treatment, and post-treatment surveillance of breast cancer. • Differentiate indications and techniques of tissue sampling. • Describehowhistologicfindingsarerelatedtodefinitive therapy for breast cancer. • Examine the role of Primary Care, nutrition and alternative medicine in the assessment and treatment of breast cancer. • Examine breast conserving and non breast conserving surgical treatment options for breast cancer treatment as well as the role of sentinel lymph node sampling. • Describe the therapeutic options for chemotherapy. • Discuss the therapeutic design, options, and timing for partial and whole breast radiation. • Comparethepotentialbenefitsandpitfallsrelatedtopostmastectomy breast reconstructive techniques in relationship to adjuvant therapy. • Identify the psychosocial issues related to breast cancer treat- ment, including methods to support patients with these issues. • Explain the molecular biology of breast cancer in relation to targeted therapy. • Discuss the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of breast cancer as it relates to nursing, mid-level providers, and physicians, in treatment coordination, and communication. • Review the controversial issues involved in hormone replacement therapy and molecular genetic testing. • Identify issues regarding extremity lymphedema, including methods to treat it.Registration FeesAll fees include registration, educational materials and instruction, CME and CE recording, continental breakfast, refreshment break, and lunch.Symposium LocationEmbassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center is located on the scenic Illinois River in East Peoria, Illinois.
