Dear Parents, Alumni and Friends of DePaul Catholic,

It is with my deepest gratitude that I extend our many thanks for your contributions of time, talent and treasure which have so positively impacted the lives of our students and faculty during the past year. As you know, fundraising through the Annual Fund and DePaul Catholic Parents’ Association enable us to fulfill our promise to you of helping each student realize their full potential. Thanks to the commitment and investment you have made in our community, we can inspire our students each day to grow in Scholarship, Faith, and Community.

The future of DePaul Catholic is bright due in part to prudent strategic planning and our success in looking forward. Over the past year, recent projects made possible by your generosity have provided great promise for our students and for generations of DePaul Catholic students to come. Topping this list was the creation of the Information Commons, a 21st Century learning space that will help our students and faculty in their pursuit of academic excellence. New memorial benches and campus signage serve to improve the outward appearance of our school. Phase I of our Security Project was completed by adding a new gate at the rear entrance, limiting both foot and vehicle traffic around the back of the campus. You will hear more about Phase II of our security upgrades in the Annual Appeal mailing that will be sent in the weeks to come. Finally, the Faculty has enhanced their teaching techniques by taking part in school-sponsored professional development opportunities and enrichment programs. These are just a few examples of how the goals of the Annual Fund and Parents’ Association philanthropy are achieved. Please accept our sincere gesture of thanks as we recognize you in the pages of this Statement of Voluntary Support. Your trust and commitment have made all of these opportunities, and more, possible.

I am fortunate to serve this community as President and I look forward to your continued support in the coming year. The success of our school relies on the collective efforts of our community and a shared vision for the future. Our passion to sustain the mission of DePaul Catholic, and to be large enough to challenge yet small enough to care, can only be achieved with your support.

We remain committed to excellence, optimistic about the future, and feel blessed to have the strength of our community as we charge forward. Thank you once again for all that you do each day to make DePaul Catholic the preeminent Catholic coed college preparatory school in Northern New Jersey.

St. Vincent DePaul…Pray For Us!

WayS to give

BEqUESTS: A bequest is a gift made via a Will. It can be given as a specific amount, as a portion of an estate, or as a remainder share. Contributions to DePaul Catholic High School qualify as charitable tax deductions and may help reduce estate tax liability. An attorney or financial advisor can best provide tax information.

CASH: An outright cash gift qualifies as a charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes.

GIFTS-IN-KIND: Gifts-In-Kind include materials, equipment or services that are given without charge to DePaul Catholic High School. There is always a need for additional items that will benefit the students and faculty. Please contact Maureen o’Connor at 973.694.3702, ext. 440 or [email protected].

MATCHING GIFTS: Many corporations provide resources to supplement the support by employees for charitable institutions. This is a simple and effective way for contributors to increase the value of their gifts. Donors are encouraged to check with their respective employer’s Human Resources Department about the availability of this program.

MEMORIAL BENCHES: A commemorative bench is a wonderful way to give a gift in honor or memory of a loved one. Your gift will provide a lasting tribute for generations to come, as well as supporting the mission of DePaul Catholic.

ONLINE GIVING: Giving is only a click away. Please click on the donation button on the home page of the website www.depaulcatholic.org.

REAL ESTATE: A gift of real estate to DePaul Catholic High School provides the donor an income tax benefit as well as reducing capital gains since the market value of appreciated property is deductible.

RESTRICTED GIFTS: A specified gift made at the discretion of the donor to a specific project or need of the school.

SECURITIES: A gift of securities, stocks and bonds entitles the donor to an income tax deduction; a gift of appreciated securities may also reduce capital gains tax liability. To arrange for a transfer, please contact Maureen o’Connor, Director of Development at 973-694-3702, ext. 440.

ADOPT-A-STUDENT: The Adopt-A-Student program is a four year commitment to provide full or half tuition to a student in need.

CAMPUS MINISTRY FUND: Contributions made to this fund provide support to the DePaul Catholic Campus Ministry program.

CURRICULUM ENHANCEMENT: In order for DePaul Catholic to continue to provide a premiere education to its students, this fund is used to purchase materials for each of the academic departments.

MEMORIAL BENCHES: This meaningful gift will be a lasting tribute in honor or in memory of someone dear to you.

OPERATION DE PAUL CATHOLIC: This is used for improvements and repairs to the school facilities.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Contributions made to this fund allow for faculty and staff to enhance their skills so they can continue to provide a quality education to the DePaul Catholic students.

A contribution to DePaul Catholic’s Annual Fund allows for needs to be met and helps prepare DePaul Catholic students for their future. Dollars received are used in a variety of ways including scholarship/financial aid, curriculum enhancement, operations, improvements to technology, athletics, the arts, campus ministry and professional development.

Page 9: Depaul annualreport print final final

2013-2014 Statement of Voluntary Support / 7

SPARTAN ATHLETIC FUND: Over 75% of DePaul students contribute to an athletic program over their four years as a Spartan. This fund assists in sustaining and growing the quality programs that are a tradition of our school and maintaining our facilities.

THE SISTER PATRICIA FLARITY SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Throughout her lifetime at DePaul Catholic, Sister Patricia touched many young people’s lives. She deeply believed that students from all walks of life deserved a DePaul Catholic education. As tuition costs continue to rise, the need for financial assistance at DePaul Catholic becomes even more imperative. A donation to the Sister Patricia Flarity Scholarship Fund is a direct investment in the future of a DePaul Catholic student.

THE DE PAUL CATHOLIC TECHNOLOGY FUND: DePaul continues to be 21st Century in its pursuit of new technology and in its implementation and integration of this technology into the everyday curriculum. Your investment to this fund will allow for additional technology upgrades to the DePaul Catholic High School Student Information Commons.

THE DE PAUL CATHOLIC ARTS FUND: Supports the artistic growth of our students by enhancing the visual and performing arts programs, staff and facility. An investment to this fund will allow for stage upgrades and the purchase of musical and art supplies.

Many corporations provide resources to supplement the support by employees for charitable institutions. This is a simple and effective way for contributors to increase the value of their gifts. Donors are encouraged to check with their respective Human Resources department about the availability of this program.

The following companies supported the 2013-2014 DePaul Catholic Annual Fund:

PhonaThon VolunTeers:

Held in the spring and the fall, phonathons are an intricate part of our Annual Fund campaign. We are grateful to the following students for their time:

ParenT VolunTeers:

Parent volunteers play an integral part at DePaul Catholic. Volunteers contribute to the DePaul Catholic community in a variety of ways through our Parent Association, Booster Clubs and Board of Trustees. We thank you for all that you do to make DePaul Catholic strong into the future.

miSSion Statement

DePaul Catholic High School is a co-educational diocesan college preparatory high school whose mission is to foster the spiritual, intellectual, physical and social growth of its students. DePaul Catholic enables all students to deepen their faith by teaching the doctrine and traditions of the Catholic Church; by strengthening their sense of social justice and societal responsibility, and by helping students form a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The school community also develops young men and women from varying backgrounds into skilled, compassionate citizens who respect the dignity of all people and leaders who are willing to meet the challenges of a complex global society.
