Mr Brown, Mr Gilks and the Athletics Carnival committee organised a fantastic day and all children competed in many events. The children showed great sportsmanship and really encouraged each other to do well. Many students participated in the track and field events. It was great to see the students all having a go and giving their personal best! Well done to everyone involved and thank you to all staff and our parent volunteers for their invaluable assistance on the day. A special thank you to Mrs Stephenson and all of the parents from the P & C who helped in the canteen and provided our lunches. The Brisbane Water Zone Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 31 August at Mingara. Good luck to all students competing at this carnival. Premier’s Spelling Bee On Thursday 9 August, the school finals of the Premier’s Spelling Bee were held in the school hall. Congratulations to all students who won their class competition to make it into the final. All students tried their very best on the day. Congratulations to the finalists who will be representing Kariong PS at the Regional Spelling Bee Finals: Stage 2 – Tamsen E and Mya A Stage 3 – Cassidy Q and Claire W Book Fair Once again we have had another very successful KPS Book Fair. Thank you to all parents, students and community members who came along to the Book Fair and purchased a book. Part of the proceeds of the Book Fair are donated to the school to purchase resources for the school. P&C Meeting Our next P&C meeting is on Monday 20 August at 7.30pm in the Staffroom. All parents are welcome to attend. During this P&C Meeting Mrs Rayner will be going over the KPS Anti-Bullying Plan. Kariong PS has a fantastic P&C that works extremely hard to support our students and many programs throughout the school. Public Speaking Finals On Monday 13 August the Annual KPS Public Speaking Competition was held in the school hall. Two students from each class spoke in the finals. All students spoke with clarity and confidence and were able to relay their message in a very concise manner. Congratulations to all children who were in the finals and to Candace C, Laura H, Alex L, Zyenna H, Ilia L, Tamsen E, Ella H and Amelie S who were selected to represent our school at the district Public Speaking Finals. We know they will represent our school with pride. Opal Bus Cards A reminder that all students who travel to and from school on the bus are required by law to have a School Opal card. Busways are monitoring this very closely and a child may be refused travel if they do not have a valid School Opal Card. DEPUTY PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Athletics Carnival

Today’s Athletics Carnival was a great success. Mr Brown, MrGilks and the Athletics Carnival committee organised a fantasticday and all children competed in many events. The childrenshowed great sportsmanship and really encouraged each otherto do well. Many students participated in the track and fieldevents. It was great to see the students all having a go andgiving their personal best!

Well done to everyone involved and thank you to all staff andour parent volunteers for their invaluable assistance on the day.

A very big thank you to all the families and students whocreated “their own treasures” as part of this year’s familychallenge. We had a great variety of ideas, which created awonderful display for our Library. The following students wereselected as winners and received a voucher to spend at ourBook Fair. Persephone D, Amber B, Montana C, Amelia S,Miles C, Martha & Charlie L, Travis W, Jacob M and Mikayla W.

KARIONG PUBLIC SCHOOL PUBLICSPEAKING COMPETITION

On Monday 13 August we hosted the 2018Kariong Public Speaking Finals in the SchoolHall. Each audience group were attentive tothe talented speakers who informed,entertained and made us laugh whilstpresenting a vast array of topics. The rangesof topics were presented in a most professional manner. Thestandard again this year was high and the judges were tested inevery session. The judges commented on the confidence andabilities of each grade. Congratulations to the students forreaching the finals and to all who participated at class level. Thefollowing finalists competed in the next round at Gosford PublicSchool on Thursday 16 August. Well done!

2018 COOINDA ABORIGINALEDUCATION CONSULTATIVE GROUP(AECG) AWARDS

Congratulations to Noah and Maxx who received Certificatesof Excellence at Gosford Public School on Tuesday 7 August2018. Maxx received his award for excellence in sportingachievements and Noah received his award for commitment tolearning.

Special congratulations to Mrs Harding who won a Certificate ofExcellence for the magnificent poster mural that she completedwith her class that now proudly hangs in our school library.

We are very proud of your individual and group achievements.The award ceremony was fantastic with many students,parents and community members across the Central Costattending. Mrs Redrup. Ms Farrugia and Mrs Harding from ourschool attended to congratulate our students who successfullywon the 2018 awards.

PEER SUPPORT-WEEK 4This week in Peer Support, the children practised developingtheir strengths. They identified their strengths, and establishedthe skills to become more resilient and optimistic in certainsituations. Please ask your child to share the strengths theyidentified during this week’s session.

SPORTS REPORT

Oz Tag – Boys

On 9 August, Mr Gilks and the Stage 3 boys’ OzTag teamwent to Adcock Park to compete in a Gala day. We versedSt Johns Baptist in the first game, winning the match 8-2.We were happy with our performance and went into the nextgame against a strong Blue Haven side. The second gamewas close until about ten minutes into the game when wegot a try, which then made us more confident, and we endedup winning 5-1. Woodport was our next opponent. We weredominating from start-to-finish, winning the game 9-2 with twoinjured players at the time. The last game before the finals wasagainst Erina Heights. We started strong but they came backlater in the game. It was all tied up at 4-4. We progressed tothe quarterfinals against Shelly Beach. They were dominatingfrom the start, with an end score of 6-1. We gave it our bestthroughout the day. Congratulations for all your efforts boys.

Oz Tag – Girls

On 9 August, the Kariong Public School Senior Girls’ Oz Tagteam went down to Adcock Park to play a series of games.The senior girls played their first game against Gorokan, withthe game ending in a draw, 2-all. The girls tried their hardestin their second game yet unfortunately, Central Coast AdventistSchool were too strong and won 7-0. In the third game, whichwas against Killarney Vale, we beat them 4-2 with Renee C andEmily C scoring two tries each. The last game was our bestthanks to Emily L, Ellie R, Emily C and Renee C scoring someamazing tries, we came away with the win 6-3 against Toukley.In this game, the girls went out there and did their very best,and finished with a big win! The girls had so much fun, triedtheir absolute best, but unfortunately missed getting into thequarterfinals. Well done girls!

OUR WEEK WITH LORI – KQLori worked extremely hard in KQ this weekand showed all of the school values. Hejoined in all of our lessons and even came tothe computer Lab with us. He was overjoyedwhen KQ won the trophy for being the bestclass in Assembly this week.
