Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. GO PLACIDLY amid the noise and the haste, and

remember what peace there may be in silence. As far

as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with

all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to

others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have

their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious

to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you

may become vain or bitter, for always there will be

greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep

interested in your own career, however humble; it is a

real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world

is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what

virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and

everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither

be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and

disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully

surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden

misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark

PRAYER IN THIS TIME OF CRISIS

Almighty and all-merciful God,

lover of the human race, healer of all our

wounds,

in whom there is no shadow of death,

save us in this time of crisis;

grant wisdom and courage to our leaders;

watch over all medical people

as they tend the sick and work for a cure;

stir in us a sense of solidarity beyond all

isolation;

if our doors are closed, let our hearts be open.

By the power of your love destroy the virus of

fear,

that hope may never die

and the light of Easter, the triumph of life,

may shine upon us and the whole world.

Through Jesus Christ, the Lord risen from the

dead,

who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Amen.

Holy Mary, health of the sick, pray for us.

St Joseph, guardian of us all, pray for us.

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most

Holy Sacrament. I love You above all

things, and I desire to receive

You into my soul. Since I cannot at this

moment receive You

sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace

You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Project Compassion 4th Sunday of Lent

Thirty-two-year-old Sakun lives in a village in central east India. She developed polio as a child and has difficulty walking. Until now Sakun, an indigenous Gond woman, has been isolated in her community, unable to earn a livelihood and without knowledge of government schemes that could help her. After joining a Caritas Australia-funded program, Sakun has learned new skills and gained important mobility. Through their strategic guidance

and support, Sakun now earns her own income and makes a small profit which goes towards her family’s basic needs. She is more resilient, more confident and more independent.

Please donate to Project Compassion 2020 to help uplift vulnerable communities and support the

rights of indigenous peoples around the world.

You can donate through Parish boxes and envelopes, by visiting www.caritas.org.au/projectcompassion or phoning 1800 024 413.

The best way to receive Christ is in Holy Com-

munion at Mass. Yet for those times you can’t go

to Mass you can still reach out to Him by making

a Spiritual Communion in prayer!

Saints often made an act of spiritual communion

when they couldn’t receive the Eucharist at Mass.

In such circumstances as we are experiencing

now the Church encourages us to make an act of

“spiritual communion,” where we unite ourselves

to God through prayer. It is a beautiful way to ex-

press to God our desire to be united with him

when we are unable to complete that union in the

reception of Holy Communion.

Sr. Benigna Consolata Ferrero (1885-1916)

Our Lord said to to Sr. Benigna Consolata: "Make as many Spiritual Communions as pos-sible, to supply for the many Sacramental Communions which are not made. One every quarter of an hour is not enough. Make them shorter, but more numerous."

FOURTH SUNDAY of LENT (Year A) 22nd March 2020

An Act of Spiritual Communion can help make any day better, or at least more bearable, if you ask him for His help and guidance in prayers such as this one, composed by St. Alphonsus Liguori in the 18th century:

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament.

I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

St. Thomas Aquinas once defined a Spiritual

Communion as “an ardent desire to receive Jesus

in the Most Holy Sacrament [in Communion at

Mass] and in lovingly embracing Him as if we had

actually received Him.”

Remember, however, that you can “turn toward

the holy tabernacle” and receive Jesus in your

heart from anywhere you might happen to be,

at any time, day or night!

You just need to approach Him with sincerity, hu-

mility and a desire to follow in His footsteps in

acts of faith and charity. And He’s delighted when

we do so! The Baltimore Catechism notes that a

Spiritual Communion “is an act of devotion, and

one very pleasing to God.”

St. Jean-Marie Vianney, a French priest famous

for converting countless souls to Christ in his par-

ish of Ars in the 19th century, once said “when we

feel the love of God growing cold, let us instantly

make a Spiritual Communion. When we cannot go

to the church, let us turn towards the tabernacle;

no wall can shut us out from the good God.” We

can indeed be grateful for that!

"Whoever wishes to be my follower must deny his very self, take up his cross each day, and follow in my steps." Luke 9:23
