Homework Task:

Design an A4 poster that warns people of the potential dangers/hazards in the Textiles room – for example, trailing wires, more than one person at a sewing machine, drinking near electrical equipment, tying hair back, tucking ties/lanyards in etc. This can either be hand drawn or done on the computer.

How long do you have to complete this task:

Plain A4 paper, pencil, colouring pencils.

From any DT staff member. Computers can be used in the library after school.

Homework Task: Literacy task 1

Literacy in DT crossword 1 plus the Word exercise 1 sheet to accompany it.

How long do you have to complete this task: 1 week

You can print them directly from the computer from the TEXTILES folder of the shared area,

Homework Task:

Identifying textiles in the home.

On A4 lain paper, draw as many textile products you can think of that are in your house. Try to

identify what fibres they are made from e.g. cotton, wool etc. Annotate your drawings with this

information.

Colour in your pictures as neatly as possible.

Homework Task:

Labelling the sewing machine worksheet.

Label the parts of the sewing machine with the name of the parts and what they do.

Draw on the sheet how you would thread the machine up.

On the back of the sheet, write 3 top tips for how you would remember to thread a

machine up correctly.

Subject: Textiles Title of module: Designing for a purpose















Homework Task:

On plain A4 paper, design a new logo for Kettering Science Academy – produce a minimum of

4 designs neatly coloured using colouring pencils.

Draw using pencil.

REMEMBER – logos need to be simple. Use a maximum of 3 colours per logo.

Special instructions: You could fold your paper into four, to give you four equal quarters to draw your designs in.



Homework Task: Sketch your school shirt on a plain sheet of A4 paper.

Look at your school shirt and see what fibres it is made from (look on label). Are the fibres

man-made or natural? If you can, find out how the fabric is constructed (is it knitted or

woven?? Explain why this is a good fabric to make a shirt from.

Annotate your shirt drawing with your findings. If you can, try to identify and label seams,

buttons etc to show construction.

You may also want to use the internet to research fibres and their properties. Books can also be

found in the library and Textiles rooms.



Homework Task:

On plain A4 paper, design a new school uniform for Kettering Science Academy using your

new school logo (from h/w 2) and colour it to a high standard. Draw the complete outfit. Think

about what fabric it will be made from and make notes (annotate) your drawing.

Homework Task:

On a sheet of plain A4 paper, create a name and logo for a new chain of hotels. Produce at least 4 logo

designs with your chosen name. Remember to use limited colours and render to a high standard using

colouring pencils.

You could research other hotel chains as an extension.

Homework Task:

Research different types of uniforms on an A4 moodboard. This can be done by sketching, collecting

pictures from magazines, or images from the internet.

Use your moodboard to design a uniform for the hotel staff, incorporating your logo design from the

previous homework task. You should design a minimum of 4 uniforms and present your final design on

a separate sheet of A4 paper, showing front and back views. Zoom in on sections if appropriate to

show detail.

Where you can get the resources: Paper and limited magazines from Miss Harriman. Internet access and a printer can be used at the library after school if unavailable at home.








Homework Task: On A4 isometric paper, design a room for your new hotel. This could be a bedroom, reception area or restaurant for example. You must use a pencil and ruler to draw with, and colour carefully using colouring pencils. You should try to show texture and tone where appropriate.
