Which chair is right for you?Take the pain out of finding the right chair
April –
June 30th 2012
2
As individuals we vary in shape,
size and needs, so how could
one chair fit everybody? An
adjustable chair that may even be
labelled ‘ergonomic’, can do more
harm than good, when it’s not
appropriate for the occupant and
environment.
Ergonomists state ‘a chair only
becomes ergonomic, when it
suits the specific worker, their
workstation and the task at
hand’.
Typing, reading, writing or talking
on the phone all require different
seating postures throughout the
A correctly fitted chair
is essential for any
occupation.
Finding the right chair
is imperative and will
improve your health
and productivity
for years to come.
Why should I trial my office chair first?
We call it the Goldilocks’ principle
day. This is why ergonomists insist
‘the only way to determine the
correct chair for you, is to trial the
chair in your work environment.’
For over twenty years we have
been helping people be more
comfortable at work. Designing
and manufacturing in Australia, our
specialty is ergonomic chairs. Our

Healthy sittingWhat could be happening to my spine?
Spinal Degeneration
stage one stage two stage three
Normal Vertebrae
Muscles & ligaments control movement
Guiding joint
Vertebrae
Disc
Nerve exiting spine
Sitting in an incorrect chair causes
the spine to lose its equilibrium.
As a result, spinal muscles are
forced to work harder in order to
maintain balance. This significantly
increases static muscle work.
Over time, muscle fatigue may
cause muscular discomfort and
potential spasms.
At the same time, the healthy
curve in the lower back flattens,
which causes the lumbar discs to
compress. Also, as only the outer
rings of the disc have pain sensitive
nerve endings, it is possible to be
unaware of damage until it is well
underway.
If you continue to sit with little
or incorrect support, the risks of
long-term health issues are greatly
increased.
Inadequately designed office
chairs are leading to serious health
implications for individuals and
major costs to businesses annually
in Australia.
Since 1989, AC Ergonomics has
been detemined to manufacture
true ergonomic seating, making
it possible to enjoy the positive
aspects and benefits of the sitting
position.
Could you feel better?
Could you work better?
The lumbar
The lumbar, or lower back,
is the third major region
of the spine, normally
consisting of five vertebrae.
Each vertebra is stacked
on top of the other and
between each verterbra is
a gel-like cushion called
a disc. The discs work
to absorb pressure and
prevent the vertebrae from
grinding against each other.

GM’s comment –It’s that time of year – Advantage Membership renewals, and with a new and improved package for 2005, AAA Tourism has certainly been busy.
I am pleased to announce the successful registration of our STARS Trademark for temporary tourist accommodation within Australia. This means that only Advantage members are licensed to use STAR Ratings in promotions and advertising, and provides AAA Tourism with a specific legal right to ensure operators cease using or promoting a STAR Rating when they are not Advantage members.
As a result of the trademark registration, AAA Tourism will be strongly policing and enforcing the appropriate use of STAR Ratings and significantly promoting the benefits of choosing a STAR Rated property to consumers.
Another exclusive new product for Advantage members next year will be the launch of our new Online Accommodation Booking Service operated for Australia’s Auto Clubs. The new
service will provide travellers with access to bookings and enquiries about accommodation across 11,000 properties. More information about this exciting new service will be made available over the next few months.
With more and more accommodation operators embracing electronic communication, this will be the last printed edition of STAR News. All future editions of STAR News will be distributed in the STAR News bulletin format – a single page newsletter sent once a month by email. I invite properties that have not already signed up to receive their STAR News via email to do so by sending their details to [email protected]. All properties already receiving STAR News by email and those that register to receive STAR News online by 10 December 2004 will go into the draw to win. See page 4 for more information.
See inside for further information on our exciting new additions to Advantage Membership.

Winning the business!
The CIC team L-R: Ian Goulevitch, Jeff Ebrill, John Davies, Les Gordon and Maurie Simpson
Darren Stewart (National Contract Implementation Manager) heads up the team of Contract Implementation Co-ordinators, known as ‘CICs’. People News talks to Darren about this very important area of our business.
... continued page 2
One of the key strategies
over the past three years
has been to reduce our
company dependence
on the building cycle, so
that we develop a more
consistent level of sales.
The introduction of Safety Products,
followed by our move into the broader
Industrial MRO Product range were
key steps in this strategy. In addition,
our more recent restructure of the field
Salesforce
into customer–focused groups targeting
Contractors & Installers (C&I) and
Industrial Customers was yet another
step.
As a result of these initiatives we have
achieved significant success with a
number of major industrial customers.
We have broadened our sales base
across these new areas of our business.
The table above lists a number of key successes we have achieved with some of Australia’s major industrial customers.
Combined, these accounts alone represent over $20 million per year additional business during 2004.
These successes are a result of a number of teams working together to win the business. People from all areas of our operation have co-operatively targeted, converted and implemented this new business into our operations.
The recent refinement of our Industrial Sales Team into three groups, each focusing on a key activity will further accelerate this success. The Sales Team focus on identifying and converting opportunities and managing our accounts. The National Contract Team respond to contract tender requests and manage the day-to-day tracking of contract performance against KPIs. Finally the Contract Implementation Team looks after the implementation of new contracts and the operational handover of contracts to our branches, (more about CICs in this issue).
Ultimately however, it is our branches that are the key to our success. The branch teams work with the customer on a day-to-day basis and deliver the services necessary to meet the customers’ needs. These successes are a result of great work by the branches involved in this activity.

Faro’s new Laser ScanArmTake Over 13,000 Points per Second
The highly anticipated release of
Faro’s new Laser ScanArm
means that you can now
collect simple point
data with the Arm’s
probe, then simply
switch to the fully
incorporated Laser
Scanner to laser
scan larger areas
with a significantly
higher data density.
The Faro ScanArm
will register over
13,000 points
per second,
providing you
with a detailed
and thorough
spatial result
in a full 3D
environment.
There are no third-party hardware attachments, no external
electronics and no cables that interfere with the ScanArm’s
infinite rotation ability. The fully integrated system
removes the complications of incorporating
separate technologies, and largely condenses
the amounts of cabling often associated
with some system setups.
The ScanArm has an “auto-material”
feature, which samples the object
surface, then adjusts the scanner’s
settings to ensure optimal scanning
results. It is ideal for non-contact
measurement applications such as
inspection, cloud-to-CAD comparison,
rapid prototyping, reverse engineering and
3D modelling. Users can analyse data in the
native CAM2 Measure
software package, as
well as others including
Geomagic, PolyWorks
and Rapidform.
If you would like more
information on the new
Faro ScanArm, or would
possibly like to
organise a
demonstration at
your workplace,
please get in
contact with us.
The Latest in Laser Tracker Technology
Laser Tracker methods are not entirely new
to the measurement industry, and although
the advanced technology is what now allows
us to measure so accurately over such long
distances, the concepts behind the process
are relatively straightforward. The Faro Si.2
Laser Tracker uses a handheld reflective
prism to return the emitted laser signal. It
then utilises two axes and two types of laser to
decipher, or track, changes in the XYZ position
of the prism (see our Pool Table example on page 2).
The Laser Tracker measures two angles, one in azimuth and
one in zenith, and using the interferometer laser it can obtain
a distance very accurately (0.01mm +0.008mm/m). Then by
knowing the change in the two angles and the distance, it can
adopt mathematics that solve for the new XYZ of the spherical
prism. It’s pretty handy when you can measure a geometric feature
(such as a cylinder, plane, point or circle) from 35m away to an
accuracy of 0.035mm in around 30 seconds!
Faro’s new Si.2 Laser Tracker boasts all of the benefits of the
previous SI Tracker, including 35m range, unrivalled accuracy, as
well as the SuperADM laser capabilities, which make for faster
measurements and even allows for beam breakages. In addition
to these sought after features, Faro has now released a Laser
Tracker that represents the latest in measurement technology, the
Faro Si.2 Laser Tracker which includes:
Smart Warm Up: Now runs automatically when the Tracker is
switched on, and heats the laser to a stable working temperature
in half the time.
Self-Compensation: Faro has automated the time-consuming,
user-intensive compensation process. Now a one-button solution
will run the Tracker’s compensation routine in only 5 minutes,
meaning you can quickly and confidently get on with your
measuring work.
Active Thermal Compensation: Reduces fluctuations in
measurement accuracies and actively responds to changes in
the Tracker’s temperature. Results in more accurate and consistent
measurements, regardless of environmental conditions.

CAM2 Measure’s New Version 4
Welcome to the world of the Faro Si.2 Laser Tracker. It brings you everything you
love about Faro’s SI Tracker, whilst incorporating the latest technological
advancements. It proves once again Faro’s commitment to progress, R&D, and
making the latest and greatest technology available to you, the user.
Faro’s latest software release, CAM2 Version 4, is packed full of
notable improvements, none more evident than its revamped
interface and updated graphics (see toolbar screengrab). The
organisation of the software remains relatively unchanged,
making the transition from earlier versions simple for existing
users. Some of the other advancements include a more
sophisticated multiple item selection procedure, a sortable
review features list and new CAD export options for Catia.
Users can now also edit measured features, add user notes
and utilise enhanced tubing options. For more information on
CAM2 Measure Version 4, please contact us.

“My report showed me the variety of jobs out there. I now realise how important my career is and all the opportunities waiting for me”
How does it work? The assessment process generates a picture
of your strengths and potential. This is
linked to the results of a career interest
questionnaire you complete, and career
suggestions are generated, based on a
combination of the assessment and your
interests. The report is computer generated
and Psychologists validate every report
individually, making sure it reflects your
strengths and that the career suggestions
are reasonable.
What happens next? Once you have received your Morrisby
Report via your Careers Adviser, you
can register on the support website.
This provides:
•Accesstoyourreportonline
•Practicalcareersinformation
•Efficientaccesstocareerinformation resources
•Apowerfultooltohelpyouchooseyour ideal higher education course
“I didn’t have a clue what subjects I wanted study in years 11 and 12, or for a career, but this has given me plenty of ideas to consider”
Find out more about the Morrisby Report online at www.careeranalysts.com.au
Is it worth doing? The Morrisby Profile has been used for career
guidance for more than 40 years and has
helped thousands of people make good career
decisions.
Careers Advisers, parents and students
consistently say that they find the results are
accurate and are helpful in the career decision
making process.
Unlike most career guidance systems the
Morrisby Report does not simply structure and
feed back the information you have provided.
The key strength of the Morrisby Report is that
it objectively measures your strengths and the
career direction in which these point.

What is a Morrisby Profile? To help set you on the right education or career path we need to know more about you. We use a series of psychometric assessments to find out what you’re good at, what you like doing, your planning style and approach to work, how you solve problems and what motivates you.
Assessments may sound daunting but they are nothing to be alarmed about - they are a range of simple tests and questions that help us understand more about you so we can help you make the right choices.
How will the Morrisby Profile help me?If you are leaving education it can be a daunting time not knowing what direction to take next so professional help and guidance is a great way to help you plan a fulfilling career. Perhaps you are at school and you need help working out which
university courses are right for you.Or you could be at university and needpractical career guidance. Wherever youare in your education, we can help you make the right choices about your future. The assessments can be taken by anyone over the age of 15.

What’s involved? There is a flowchart of the process on the
back page but basically we use a series of
psychometric assessments to find out what
you’re good at, what you like doing, your
planning style and approach to work, how you
solve problems and what motivates you.
Assessments may sound daunting but they are
nothing to be alarmed about - they are a range
of tests and questions that help us understand
more about you so we can help you make the
right choices.
The tests do not measure what you have learnt
but look at what you could do - your potential.
Plan your Future with the Morrisby Report • What would I be good at?
• What would interest me?
• What career would I enjoy most?
For most people these are hard questions to
answer with any confidence. Really knowing
your strengths and interests and how these
relate to working life is something that builds
over time and from experience.
Your Morrisby Report will accelerate this
process. It will help you make more informed
decisions about your future - about subject
choice, courses and careers.
