Design Road Professional is a six-month’s program desig-ned by Creative Dialogue Association that helps launch the careers of emerging designers. Young designers will be guided through a specific programme developing their own design pieces or collections. The designers are given the chance to participate in design related workshops, seminars and shadowing programs with other first class in-ternational designers. The project promotes learning how to communicate their work through branding and press.

THE DUBAI CULTURE & Arts Authority has selected four Emirati designers to attend the inauguralsix-month Design Road Professional programme, which is aimed at encouraging interculturaldialogue and creative exchange between local and international designers.
The four participants (pictured) include furniture and objectsdesigner Khalid Shafar, graphic and fashion designer AljoudLootah, visual artist Zeinab Al Hashemi, and computationalartist and designer Salem Al Mansoori.
Aimed at nurturing and fostering the talent of aspiringEmirati designers through hands-on training and knowledgetransfer, the programme will see the four designers undertakeextensive training across the various facets of design in Dubai,London and Barcelona, from September 2012 to March 2013.
They will participate in Inspirational Trips, EducationalProgrammes, Professional Shadowing Programmes, andProposal Development, culminating with the production andshowcase of their final products in the field of design at ArtWeek 2013 in Dubai.

Design Road Professional selects four Emirati designers forenriching six-month programme
The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate's dedicated Authorityfor culture, arts, and heritage; Tashkeel, an independent resource for artists anddesigners in the UAE, and the Creative Dialogue Association (CDA), a privateindependent and not-for-profit organisation, based in Barcelona, have selected fourEmirati designers to attend the inaugural six-month Design Road Professionalprogramme.
The Design Road Professional programme builds on the Authority's collaboration on the2011 Design Road workshops and exhibitions, which were aimed at encouragingintercultural dialogue and creative exchange between local and international designs.
The four participants include furniture and objects designer Khalid Shafar, graphic andfashion designer Aljoud Lootah, visual artist Zeinab Al Hashemi, and computationalartist and designer Salem Al Mansoori.
Aimed at nurturing and fostering the talent of aspiring Emirati designers throughhands-on training and knowledge transfer, the four Emirati designers will undertakeextensive training across the various facets of design, in Dubai, London, and Barcelona,from September 2012 to March 2013.
Over the course of the programme, the selected designers will participate inInspirational Trips, Educational Programmes, Professional Shadowing Programmes, and
Proposal Development, incollaboration with KingstonUniversity, Elisava Design Schooland ADIFAD, culminating with theproduction and showcase of theirfinal products in the field ofdesign at Art Week 2013 in Dubai.
Khalil Abdulwahid, Manager ofVisual Arts, Dubai Culture & ArtsAuthority, said: "The selecteddesigners for the inaugural DesignRoad Professional reflect the diversity of talent thatDubai has and fosters. Through this initiative, we aim tonurture the skills of these designers, therebystrengthening their talent to further contribute toDubai's evolving design landscape."
Approaching design with personal expression of form,movement, emotion, and in particular, 'the tale' of objects, designer Khalid Shafar has exhibited his works innumerous design shows across the world, including Next Generation Tradeshow in Berlin, Tokyo DesignersWeek, Inspirationalists at The Pavilion, Design Days Dubai, and Milan Design Week, among others.
Graphic and fashion designer, and founder of the home-grown brand Niftee, Aljoud Lootah's handmadelimited edition apparel and accessories clearly reiterate her inspiration of traditional Arabian design with acontemporary twist. Aljoud works with a number of clients, and recently collaborated with international brandRepetto to design ballerina shoes.
Visual artist Zeinab Al Hashmi specialises in multimedia design, exploring the city's current art scene. Zeinabaspires to create visuals that narrate a story, by incorporating elements from popular culture, commercial

Five Lucky Emirati Product Designers to Participate in Design Road Professional 2013
Five Emirati Product Designers will get a chance of a lifetime to learn and take inspiration from famousprofessionals in the industry and broaden their horizons in the 2012-13 edition of Design Road Professional.
The event organised by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Creative Dialogue Association (CDA) and Tashkeelwill be the first event organised of its kind in the entire region.
Held from September 2012 to March 2013 the programme will provide complete and extensive training to the fivelucky product designers who will be given hands-on training and knowledge transfer to develop their talent.
The programme will include, Professional Shadowing Programmes, Proposal Development, Inspirational Trips,and Educational Programmes which will all guide them towards developing their best product design for the ArtWeek 2013 event which will be held in Dubai.
Taking place in five steps the programme will provide the participants with a range of knowledge and skills invisual arts through partnerships with creative institutions both local and international, fashion designers,industry/product designers and graphic and media designers.
The first step will see the participants undertake inspirational trips to the London Design Festival and BCNDesign Week in Barcelona.
Next they will take part in educational programmes which will teach them about the intricacies of product designsuch as Product Packaging, Advanced Design and Digital Fabrication, etc. at the Barcelona School of Design andEngineering.
In the third phase the five Emirati designers will spend time with world-renowned designers and firms to learnfrom the best in the business and discuss with them about the various aspects involved in becoming a successfuldesigner. This step is the Professional Shadowing Programme and will take place thanks to the cooperation of theInternational Design Association ADIFAD.
The last step will see the participants develop their product proposals and have them ready for exhibition at theDubai Art Week 2013.
Such opportunities do not come much often and this is a great chance for the lucky Emirati designers to developtheir talent.

Khalil Abdulwahid, Manager of Visual Arts, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said:
“While design has played an integral role in the evolution of the region’s visual arts scene, it is initiatives likeDesign Road Professional that allows our emerging talent to further fortify their skillsets. As Dubai continues tomature as the global destination for culture and arts, it is these aspiring designers that will establish the city’scredentials as the region’s creative design hub.”
Adding further he said:
“We are confident that through the Design Road Professional programme, the selected designers will spearheadand continue to lend momentum to home-grown design innovation.”
Dubai is the regional hub for culture and art and developing the emirate’s visual arts culture is one of the majorgoals of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.

DESIGN ROAD PROFESSIONAL09.25.2012A group of young designers from Dubai participate from 25 to 28 September in a series of workshops about different areas of design organized by ELISAVA.The four designersare part of the Design Road Professional, a six-month programme with the aim of promote intercultural dialogue and creative exchange between local and internationaldesigners.
The workshops taught by the School are:
Sustainable design for packaging. Coordinator: Eva Minguella, director of the Master's Degree in Packaging Design.Digital design: from concept to model. Coordinator: Jordi Truco, director of the Master's Degree in Advanced Design and Digital Architecture.Product design: shaping innovative concepts. Coordinator: Josep Puig, co-director of the Master's Degree in Product Design.Strategy for design: introduction to Design Thinking. Coordinator: Jorge Rodríguez, director of the Master's Degree in Research for Design and Innovation.
During their visit to Barcelona, from September 24 to October 7, participants will go all over the reference areas of design world in our city.
The Road Design Professional programme is organized by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority in collaboration with the resource center for artists and designers Tashkeel andCreative Dialogue Association, an independent non-profit organization based in Barcelona.
Throughout the six months of the programme, young designers will receive an extensive training in Dubai, London and Barcelona, and will design a piece or collection to bepresented at the Art Week 2013 in Dubai.
