Seville is the capital and the biggest city in Andalusia. It’sthe fourth city with the highest population in Spain and it’s famous for its old town which is one of the biggest in Europe.

The origin of Seville was thanks to the Tartessians, who in the ancient age stablished their new vilage in the centre of Seville.

Hisbaal is the oldest name for Seville, and it comes from the Tartessian culture. In the Roman periodthe name changed to Hispalis. Then the Arabianschanged Hispalis to Ishbiliyya. Finally, after theMusulman empire left Spain and the Catholickingdom entered into the Andalusian empire, thename changed to Seville.

La giralda La plaza de españa

The Giralda is one of the most visited places in Seville. For centuries, it was the tallesttower in Spain as well as one of the highestand most famousbuilding in Europe.It’s also world’sbirthright.

It’s situated in the Parque de María Luisa and it’s a square built in 1928. It’s very famousthanks to the movie ‘Star Wars’.

Also, it is a landmark example of the Regional Architecture, mixing elements of theRenaissance Revival and Moorish Revival styles of Spanish architecture

CULTURE

Feria de abril Semana SantaThis is the most important festivity inSeville which represents the old gatherings of farmers to sell and buy cattle. It is at thebeginning of spring. Families, neighbours,workmates...spend a week dancing,eating and having a good time. If youwant to enjoy it, you should learn todance “sevillanas”.

This manifestation began in order to a makecloser the Catholic religion to the people. Several brotherhoods show their images (JesusChrist, Virgin and Saints) in astonishingreligious parades that attract a lot of tourists.
