Danville, Illinois •

Good Evening, Hed Mask Members:

This is the Cast speaking to you from behind the scenes. First, our sincere thanks to all those responsible for securing space in thePublic Library where rehearsals may be held.

DETECTIVE STOHY is brought to you as it many times hasoccurred in reality, depicting a chapt,er frani't,he a.nnak of almostany police station. In it we get a glimpse'. .. at the sordid level.... of how the other half lives-the raw edges that seldom heal, the machinations of those twisted minds, Life, as Fate unfortunately, deals it out to many. Most of these end results are traceable rightback to home environment, the only place where true correctives I

can start.

The purpose is not to shock, but to remind us all to be thankfulwe are not a part of that "other half."

Our reward for the many hours of preparation will be a presen-.tation worthy of your enjoyment ~nd appreciation.

THE 31 PARTICIPANTS, ANDTHE 86 WOHKEHS WHO HELPED.

uke Pta!}The entire action of the play takes place in the Dctective Squad

room of a New York precinct police station.

The Time-The present, a day in August.

Act I - 5:30 P.M.Act II -7:30·P"M.Act III - 8:30 P.M.

The wheels of Justice don't always turn slowly, but like themills of the gods, they do grind exceedingly fine.

In this play Sidney Kingsley has captured the tempo, thesqualor, the meanness, the pathos, ..the stark facts of life and theoccasional humor which constitute a fun-o'·the-mill day in a NewYork detective squad room.

Its boldness springs from facts; ugly, of course, but true. Nowand then the sunlight breaks through this bleakness· and ·a. ray ofhuman kindliness may be seen. Its contrasting brilliance helps torevive man's faith in man, softening the rumble of- those "ever-grinding wheels.

Life follows myriad paths in its course, but they're all, circles, ending where they began.
