The Pulp Registry-A Scientific Pulp Tissue Biopsy Service AAE members have available to them a scientific pulp tissue biopsy service, according to Dr. Manuel I. Weisman, Research Committee chairman of AAE's Endowment and Memorial Foun- dation. Dr. Weisman considers it a "unique tissue registry," and "the only dentinal tissue registry supported by a specialty organi- zation." Dr. Harold Stanley, world-reknowned pulp biologist and 1981 Grossman Award recipient, is director. Established in 1970 at the University of Florida School of Dentistry, the Pulp Registry received the support of the Founda- tion in 1972. Over 2,000 extirpated pulps and hard tissue specimens have been sent by dentists to the registry, which is now completely computerized. The pulps have been sectioned, cata- logued, and recorded. Many doctors and post-doctorate fellows have studied with Dr. Stanley, using this repository of pulp information. The serial sectioned specimens from the pulp registry have provided teaching material for graduate endodontic programs, information and research material for many articles, and formed the basis of many continuing education programs in endodontics. On behalf of the Foundation, Dr. Weisman is inviting all AAE members, as well as other interested dentists, to send in any interesting pulps or hard tissue specimens. There is no charge involved for this pulp biopsy service. The submission of pulp specimens to the Pulp Registry has been made simple; a brief Pulp Biopsy Report form Illustration is completed and sent. Contribu- tors to the Pulp Registry are requested to observe the following instructions: --Do not place any metal broaches with the pulp in the 10% formalin solution. --Do not place any solutions in canal before pulp removal. --If the whole tooth is sent, please sever apex to allow formalin to Contributor's Name Contributor's Address Patient's Name Medical History PULP REGISTRYBIOPSY REPORT FORM (please type or print) Date Phone AGE RACE Clinical History: Tooth Reactions: heat Tooth Color cold Pulp Color percusslon _ _ ~ate Pulp Removed electrical Local Anesthesia Used: Yes NO Dther Information: Radiograph Interpretation: Tentative Diagnosis: Remarks: (If more space is needed, use other slde.) -- NOTE: DO not place any solutions in canal prior to pulp, removal, DO not place any metal broaches in with pulp tissue.
