This insight is as old as our planet itself. In the end, even the biggest mammut tree emerges from a tiny seed. As simple and as natural as this truth may sound, we have to remind ourselves of it again and again in our daily routine: it will motivate us to start a project and it makes us less impatient when the big target still seems so far away. To quote Laotse: “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” And at Deuter we know a lot about travelling… We have been developing back-packs and bags for 113 years and have equipped numer-ous mountaineers, climbers and mountainbikers. We live outdoors and we are aware of our responsibility to pro-tect this beautiful environment for generations to come.

Of course, this is a pretty overwhelming task. But again we found a motivating quote. US-American environ-mentalist and author Lester R. Brown put it this way: “Saving civilization is not a spectator sport.” We need to take action! At Deuter, we have been living sustain-ability with our durable products and our repair service. By becoming a certified partner of BlueSign, we com-mit ourselves and our production partners in Vietnam to gradually optimize resource efficiency and sustainabil-ity during production. As EOG Association for Conser-vation member we have also supported environmental projects since the beginnig. This is the way we want to continue. And we don’t mind taking small steps – espe-cially when we take those steps with kids. We actually ‘work’ with the boys and girls of the forest kindergar-ten in Pitzling/Germany. The small outdoor lovers learn how to protect nature, how to keep the woods clean – and have fun at the same time. We encourage our staff worldwide to be aware of environmental issues and to get involved in ecological projects. And there is one thing we all strongly believe in: small actions can bring big changes.

We know that this is true. After all, our products most of the time grow from a small idea. Not in the office, but mainly outdoors, in action or while travelling. And then, one day, the finalised backpack is out there in nature with us. This year, we have refined the Aircontact range that provides a super comfortable way of load transfer and features a new, quick access front opening. And our test winning Spectro backpacks do not stand still either: they start into the new season in many new colours, a clean design and added volume. And the Deuter fam-ily has also grown with new rolling bags, duffles and trolleys with an integrated back system that make your travels a light, enjoyable experience.

On small to medium backpacks we go for maximum ventilation. Getting a sweaty back whilst hiking re-ally belongs to the past. The Aircomfort System’s special airy mesh ensures that moist air can escape

from three directions, preventing heat build up. For comfort, the-re are soft ventilation pads between the shoulder blades and on the hips as well as ergonomically shaped hip fins. In larger volume models, the Aircomfort Pro System combines clever mesh back ventilation with superb load transfer. A flexible, lightweight round spring steel frame forms the foundation for the pivoting Vari Flex hip fins. They follow the wearer’s movement and provide a super comfortable fit. The Aircomfort Vario Pro System completes this high tech carrying system with its stepless, quick and easy Vari Fit back adjustment system. Aircomfort FlexLite’s combination of complimentary round and flat frame profiles of spring steel gua-rantees fantastic carrying comfort. All Aircomfort systems share one thing: They reduce perspiration for sports men and women thereby reducing the strain on their circulation and giving them greater stamina. According to findings from the acclaimed Ho-henstein Institute, scientific evidence suggests that optimal back ventilation reduces moisture loss by up to 25%.

Good backpack ventilation reduces perspirati-on which helps to lower the skin temperature. This reduces the average pulse rate and redu-ces blood pressure. So reducing perspiration increases performance – and who wants to do without that! Deuter has developed spe-cial systems for the various sport categories, which perfectly match to the particular de-mands. They are all based on effective venti-lation for a more comfortable back even with high physical exertion. In larger volume mo-dels pivoting Vari Flex hip fins moreover pro-vide flexible, energy saving comfort.

The easiest way to carry heavy loads is to combine the backpack and your bo-dy together into one unit. This is exactly what the Aircontact principle of our trek-

king backpacks is about: a body contact system with perfect stability, exact load dispersion and effective ventilation. With every movement, a pump effect circu-lates air through the special breathable hollow cham-ber foam Aircontact cushions. The air channels bet-ween these cushions increases ventilation effect. The Aircontact and Aircontact Pro with pivoting Vari Flex hip fins also provide flexible, energy saving comfort, which is especially important where heavy loads are concerned. The result: up to 15% less sweating as with a standard trekking backpack. Proved in Tests conducted by Ga-briel L.&T.

For alpine backpacks the combinati-on of comfort, durability, functionality at high weight efficiency is important. Especially in rugged terrain a back-

pack, which is too heavy and complicated is more vul-nerable to failure, and is a hazard. The Deuter Alpine Back System with the two softstripe-back pads mould themselves anatomically to the back. The back system offers lightweight flexibility to comfortably follow your body movements. Between the 3D Airmesh covered soft back stripes an air channel ventilates the back. The result: compact load transfer and secure carrying performance with comfortable ventilation.

The main purpose of our Shield System is to minimise, or even, to a large extent,

prevent, injury occurring during risk sports. Tested by the TÜV Product Service in accordance with the in-dustry guidelines for personal safety equipment, the system carries both TÜV-GS and CE certification. The sophisticated Multi Layer Construction consists of vis-cose-elastic SC-1 foam and a closed-cell foam delivers excellent shock absorption and provides the basis for the protective function. Soft foam in the outer layers provides good carry comfort and ventilation during sweaty activitities. The typical V-shape of the const-ruction covers the sensitive areas of the back, whilst re-taining the pack’s outstanding freedom of movement. The Shield System is incorporated into the Razor, Edge, Venom and Attack models. The result: the TÜV-GS tested back system combines a comfortable carry, outstanding ventilation in the free spaces between the padding and maximum safety in the event of a fall.

In every biking situation a bike pack must sit securely on your back. Our unique Airstripes System takes care of that and offers effective ventilation. It consists

of two contoured foam profiles which have many air channels, covered with a highly breathable mesh. While riding, a "chimney effect" is generated between the foam profiles that enhances the ventilation. The bi-laminate construction with harder and softer foam lay-ers guarantees flexibility and more comfortable load distribution. The result: the minimal contact surface area of the pro-filed Airstripes allows free air circulation over 80% of the riders back.

Packing...The pack’s center of gravity should sit close to the bo-dy and ideally at shoulder height. This way it is posi-tioned over the body’s center of gravity and the pack won’t pull backwards. Therefore, put heavy equipment such as tent, food, big jackets close to the back in about shoulder height. Place sleeping bag, down equipment and other light objects in the bottom compartment; and midweight gear such as clothing on the top towards the outside. For easy grab, get small, often-used items in the lid pocket. Minimise the number of items you strap to the pack’s outside and evenly distribute the weight, in particular on the side pockets.

In easy terrain (hiking routes, flat trails) the load’s cen-ter of gravity should sit higher, in difficult passages (al-pine routes, Via Ferrata) a bit lower and thus closer to the body’s center of gravity. This packing system leads to a more forward leaning position, yet it provides mo-re balance.

Bike Protection

Loosen all straps and put on your backpack.

The shoulder strap anchor pointshould ideally be positioned between the shoulder blades. Set backpacks with adjust-able back-length to the correct height (Vari Quick and Vari Fit System). For small volume Deuter packs choose the right back length (Standard, SL, or EL).

Place the hip belt centrally on your hip bone, fasten and tighten.

For big backpacks, adjust sta-biliser and load adjustor straps:tighten > increased stability loosen > increased ventilationVary the load transfer from time to time between waist and shoulder.

Now tighten the shoulder straps, so that the main weight rests on the hip belt.

Finally, fasten the chest strap to optimise the shoulder strap positioning.

1 Soft edges to the straps, smaller buckles and narrow tape-red strap ends prevent the SL shoulder straps from chafing under the arms and eliminate pressure points in the chest area.

2 On average, women's backs are not quite as long as-men's. The SL carry system is thus slightly shorter than that of Deuter's standard rucksacks. Conse quently, the models in the SL series are the ideal choice, too, for male users with shorter backs.

Our rucksacks are designed to fit the average athletic build. However, since not everyone fits the norm it is likely that women's models will fit many male users per-fectly well, and vice versa. With larger capacity packs in particular, a perfect fit is crucial and for this reason the Vari-Quick shoulder straps on the regular Deuter ruck-

sacks and children's packs can be easily swapped for SL straps in the event that the original straps are unsuitab-le. Conversely, the SL straps on our SL rucksacks can be exchanged for normal Vari-Quick shoulder straps that are suitable for the user with a more powerful build. For further information, see page 110.

Tall people can enjoy a perfect fit with our Ex-tra Long EL-models! Sports people who are between 1.85 m and 2.00 m tall often have difficulty finding backpacks that fit their lon-ger backs. Our favourite Deuter backpack mo-dels are available to suit taller people with extended back lengths by 6-9 cm. Overall, backpacks in the Extra Long (EL) series have also grown in terms of volume. Back systems, features and details remain the same in the EL models as they are in the standard models, however.For further information, see page 35.

Gaby Hupfauer was the first German female mountain-eertoclimbBroadPeak,GasherbrumIIandChoOyu.Today she is part of the Deuter SL team developing women specific backpacks and she also leads expedi-tions for the DAV Summit Club – the Mountaineering and Travel Club of the German Alpine Association. She brings back so many memories from all her travels, yet there is one encounter in particular that she will never forget: “We were trekking in the Ethiopian highlands at a height of 4.000 m above sea level when we met really young shepherds. The ten year-old boys were looking after their family’s sheep. The parents come to see them from time to time and bring food. I gave them one of my muesli bars – but they returned it.“ Gaby was irritated and turned to the translator. After all, it was obvious how poor the kids were and that they had not much to eat. The translator explained the misunderstanding: before the boys would accept the meal, they wanted to play the flute for their white-skinned guests – trad-ing more or less a song for a muesli bar. And they had no pockets where they could store the muesli bar while playing. They were wearing simple cloaks made of fur.

Gaby has been to Ethiopia three times now and she loves the place: “It really is such a fantastic destina-tion.” World famous cultural sites such as the stone ca-thedrals of Lalibela, Gondar, where the Ethiopian kings used to live, or the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the holy city Axum as well as such beautiful places as the highest lake in Africa and the Blue Nile waterfalls. Yet for Gaby Hupfauer the highlight will always be the sev-en day trek with tents in the Simien highland. She ex-plains: “No other travel group goes there. And here is where you really get in contact with the Ethiopians.”

No matter how breathtaking the scenery, the beauty of the volcanoes, the distinct rock formations and 4.000 m peaks – for Gaby the most memorable part of all her travels will always remain the social encounters. “Here you can see how little things bring cultures closer,” she says. Of course, local guides make it a lot easier for the travellers to communicate with the ministers, shepherds, or people from the villages. They make it possible to start interesting conversations. And the travellers also get the chance to help. “The natives often come to our tents and ask us to dress a wound or similar. Of course, we do what we can – and it is a great feeling,” Gaby explains. She tries in general to help as much as she can. “Small things,” she says modestly. “We have so much stuff at home, stored in some corner. Abandoned stuff we no longer need – kid’s glasses, a backpack – but that can still be used. It can fulfil basic needs here instead of ending up in the trash at home.” That is why she also asks all the members of the travelling group to use the luggage weight limit on the plane to the max and bring used jackets or kids clothing. One trekking group even started its own medical relief project. Again: from small things big things grow...

Two layers of insulation are laid on top of each other. The upper layer of insulation is sewn to the outer shell material and the lower layer of insulation to the inside lining.

The layers of insulation are arranged with 3 times overlapping to increase the effective insulation thickness and avoid cold spots. This technique enhances sleeping bag performance.

The trusty Orbits are durable and easy care synthetic sleeping bags for allround use. The Orbit + 5° is the lightweight companion for the summer. Deuter Neosphere – the new down sleeping bags with-maximum insulating qualities! We use our Thermo Stretch Comfort System on the inside: the lining is constructed with elastic seams allowing the bag to expand up to 25 % in width. However, the shell has a roomy cut and thus not only keeps the loft of the down, but enhances the insulation by pro-viding even more space for the down to expand. Compared to other down sleeping bags without Thermo Stretch Comfort, the insulation properties improve at an average of 2°C. The head and foot section are ergonomically cut. The 3D hood protects the sleeper’s head, while the Ergo Foot cut with its extra thick fill in three chambers guarantees warm feet. Trapezoid chambers keep the down evenly distributed and prevent cold spots. The new bags thus present a fantastic warmth-to-weight ratio. All models are also available in a long version.

Deuter Kid Comfort child carriers are all TÜV approved and carry the GS safety certificate. During TÜV tests it not only has to prove to be able to carry heavy loads, be simple to use and comfortable to carry but each stage of the production process stages is also reviewed.The Kid Comfort child car-riers are suitable for children who can sit upright by them-selves. The maximum capacity (child and pack) is 22 kg.

1 The colour coded 5-point safety harness for the child doesn’t only offer maximum safety but also maximum practi-cability through easy handling and adjustment.

“I’ve found something“, Kilian shouts and proudly holds up a chocolate bar wrapper. He has spotted it in the Auwald – a forest in Bavaria/Germany. He drops the plastic into the bright orange Deuter Drecksack – a light ‘waste’ bag. No big deal, just a quick grab. Yet this is how things and thinking get started – the awareness for our environment. For Susanne Deppe and Tanja Kadic, education workers atthePitzlingforestkindergarten,itisamatterofcourseto treat nature with respect. And they want to pass theirphilosophyontothekids:“Intheend,weareonly guests here in the forest. Mutually complementary foam layers and plates combine to give comfort and maximum safety during a fall. The shock-absorbing core component is the viscoelastic SC-1* Foam. SC-1* Foam sets benchmark standards with its progressive shock-absorption function. A slow impact increase leads to the PSA back protector reacting gradually, whereas a rapid impact shock means the protector’s resistance increases progressively quicker. water, our key environ-

mental concerns here in

Sweden, I would say, are

related to the protection

of water resources. For

the Baltic Sea, for exam-

ple, one of the central is-

sues is eutrophication,

the excessive concentra-

tion of nutrients in the

ecosystem as a result of

human activity. There are

quite a few projects dedicated to the protection of the

Baltic Sea. Naturskyddsföreningen (The Swedish Soci-

ety for Nature Conservation) and The World Wide Fund

(WWF) are just two of the organizations that have

started important projects on this subject. Both the sea

eagle and the grey seals were almost exterminated in

the 1970s. They were saved, however, because pres-

sure from the people and organizations led to political

actions and the banning of certain toxic substances.

We cannot act on all fronts, but we truly believe that

we all can take action and do something! For us that

means that we buy organic food and MSC-certified

fish products, we try to use the car less often, only use

environmentally friendly detergents, recycle waste and

we support projects we believe in. We also hope that

each of us can inspire people to do likewise.”

“There are plenty of environmental issues in Bulgaria:

overconstruction in nature protected areas; destruc-

tion of landscapes; loss of biodiversity; spoilt water

sources; illegal cutting in the forests; usage of pesti-

cides and other harmful chemical compounds within

the soils area etc. But on the other hand, there is a

growing environmental awareness and more and

more people join to act against destruction and en-

hance sustainability.

In a country like Bulgaria in particular, we depend on

the politics of small steps! At the office we separate

the trash, re-use lots of stuff, save energy and we

bike to work. We all love nature and the outdoors

and we think it’s our responsibility to tell people

about the problems as well as about the opportuni-

We support various projects – not only by donating

money, but by volunteer work. It’s a great feeling to

get into the wilderness with a group of like-minded

people and literally work on preserving nature. This

involves cleaning actions as well as a project where

we build on a sustainable and energy sufficient moun-

tain lodge with 47 beds in the Central Balkan Na-

tional Park. We use solar panels, managed to install

WiFi, and even constructed a solar composting toilet –

“More and more people pay attention to environmen-

tal as well as safety issues in Taiwan. The interest is

particularly strong when it comes to water and soil pol-

lution, as well as water and energy shortage. There is

a growing popularity of organic food and people look

more into health safety. It is great to see this increasing

awareness for a green, sustainable economy, carbon

reduction and waste recycling.

For us in ATUNAS, developing environment-friendly,

long-lasting products, and promoting LNT (Leave no

Trace) concepts are the essential ways to show our

care and respect for Mother Nature. LNT is a program

designed to assist outdoor enthusiasts in their plans of

minimizing their ecological footprint when they are out

in nature biking, paddling, hiking etc. It is an educa-

tional and ethical program, not a set of rules or regula-

tions… Also, this year is the centennial anniversary of

Taiwan, and ATUNAS continues its initiatives on climb-

ing mountains here in our neighborhood (100 little

mountains). Along the ways, we have integrated points

where people are educated about LNT with games and

can read about the ideas on boards etc. Outdoors is

where we learn and understand our surrounding en-

vironment.”

“One of the primary environmental problem in the US

stems from air pollution issues. Our air quality is chal-

lenged as a result of our dependency on oil, a lack of

infrastructure for quality public transportation and plac-

es where American’s work that is far from where peo-

ple live. Plus: we continue to be very wasteful when

it comes to the use of our resources. Our landfills are

filled will so many things that could have been recycled,

refurbished or reused. Our politics are angled such that

it’s going to take a major shift to decrease our depend-

At the company, we also work on little things like office

window tinting and improved ceiling insulation for more

efficient heating and cooling; recycling waste, improving

order/logistic planning to maximize efficient shipment

of goods and when applicable we reuse carton boxes

that we receive for our shipments to our dealers. Also,

we have a local repair shop fix damaged backpacks so

they can continue to be used. We are further support-

ing agencies and non-profit organizations that work on

behalf of the National Parks and Wilderness Areas. On

a personal level, we do volunteering work, which is al-

ways a fantastic experience and great fun. We are, for

example, part of the volunteer-driven Boulder Moun-

tainbike Alliance which has the mission to improve

the trail experience for

every rider in Boulder

Most important: the right backpack materials. Not just so that your „Deuter” will really get through the thick and thin with it's high quality fabrics, but also, so the creative combination of the right fabrics on the pack will optimise performance and reduce weight. Deuter uses only selected backpack fabrics that are rip- and abrasion-proof, colourfast, UV-resistant, quick drying, water resistant, long lasting and lightweight. The two important syn-thetic materials are nylon (polyamide) and polyester. High densi-ty polyamide fabric is extremely abrasion resistant in a thin layer and is more robust than polyester. It is popular due to its high performance in a light weight layer. Polyester doesn't absorb water, and doesn’t bleach when exposed to UV rays. Most im-portantly, the rugged polyester fabric has a typical soft touch yet is not heavy because polyester fibres are lighter. The fabrics are specified by their thread thickness in denier (den), which is the thread weight specified over a thread length of 9,000 metres.

This means that a 9,000 metre long 600 den thread, for exam-ple, would weigh 600 grams. To provide high water resistance, Deuter fabrics are coated exclusively with polyurethane (PU) which is abrasion-proof, cold-resistant and flexible.

YKK® zippers: currently the best available on the market, these top quality zippers are very robust and reliable.

Multi-chamber aluminium stays: Made from top quality AL 2024 T6 aluminium, these load bearing elements in our back-packs are both lightweight and strong. The flat aluminium tube is divided into separate chambers by several inner walls. The ef-fect in cross-section is that of a honeycomb. This strengthens the tube and prevents the stays from breaking. These multi-chamber aluminium stays are used in various widths depending on the backpack model.

Durable spring steel frame: Spring steel is extraordinarily stable and elastic. It is very durable since it springs back into its original form when twisted or turned. In a lightweight round profile construction it allows a very flexible frame build. In a flat profile, it constructs a frame with an extremely high form stabil-ity. We use both for our Aircomfort models to give our patented ventilation mesh panel its stable tension.

3D-Air-Mesh: A 3 mm thick and therefore three di-mensional polyester mesh. The opti-mum air permeability and padding ef-

fect turns it to the ideal lining fabric for back padding, shoulder straps and hip belts. It offers maxi-mum durability and comfort.

Wide Air-Mesh: Larger holed skin contact fabric with excellent breathability and lighter weight. This polyester fabric combines durability with comfort.

Deuter-Ripstop-Polytex: The sturdier version of the Deuter Super Polytex with woven in stronger threads. PU coated.

Deuter-Super-Polytex: Made from 600 den Polyester thread and with a thick PU coating, this mul-ti-purpose fabric is robust and light-weight. It is most suitable for back-

packs, used in average conditions to keep the weight to a minimum.

Deuter-Ripstop 210: Ultra-tight weave, hard wearing 210 DenierNylon.Recognisablebytheve-ry technical, shiny surface incorpora-tingtoughRipstopthreads.Thislight-

weight and extremely robust fabric is perfectly suited to the manufacture of lightweight products. Top quality PU coating. This highly technical material is used for light-weight Alpine and Trekking models.

Deuter-Ripstop-Nylon: The regular chain-and-weft weaving of stronger threads creates a strong, but light 420 den nylon fabric with good abrasion and rip stopping cha-

racteristics. The outside is water-repellent, the inside is PU coated.

Deuter-Microrip-Nylon: 210 den Nylon fabric with strong ripstop threads and PU coating. This fine, lightweight and yet abrasion re-sistant nylon is optimal for lightweight

backpack construction.

Hexlite 210: This lightweight 210-denier RipstopPolyamide material is used for ACT Trail packs and weight optimising Bike and Alpine backpacks. Thicker rein-

forcement threads make it resistant to tears even at such minimal weight and lend it that striking honeycomb struc-ture. PU coating inside.

Neoprene: Neoprene is a elastomer foam usually laminated on both sides to Nylon or Lycra to protect the surface and incre-ase durability. We use Neoprene for

hip belts that need to be flat, extremely flexible and ro-bust. The protective features make it the ideal material for our Neon Belt and the Camera Cases. And we use its insu-lation qualities for our Tube Insulator.

Deuter Microrip Lite: This very fine Nylon fabric is extremely lightweight. The PU coating and tight weave enable it to achieve a high waterproof specification. Similar to our

other lightweight textiles, the stronger ripstop threads re-inforce the lighter main fabric in order to increase its resis-tance to tearing. Used for our “Bike Bags” and Accessories.

Hexlite 100: Extremely lightweightRipstopPolya-mide fabric with textured structure. The 100 version of the fabric is used for ultra lightweight backpacks such

as the Spectro series. The reinforcement fibres woven into the fabric increase the tear strength and add stability to this thin fabric. PU coating inside.

Deuter-Duratex: A Polyamide-fabric that is extremely abrasion and tear resistant. For all larger backpacks this is used for the bottom panel. It has a thread of 1000

den and a thick PU coating on the inside.

Deuter-Duratex-Lite: RobustanddurableDuratexina500denier weave. Markedly lighter than the 1000 weight version yet still dura-ble, tear-proof and robust. PU coated.

Hyperlon: Hyperlon is a high quality, extremely durable TPU material. Textile rein-forcement ensures high tear strength and the closed surface makes it water-

proof. We use it for our alpine backpacks for areas that are exposed to high mechanic impact or water.

struction also tear proof. Additional PU coating in the Exo-sphere series means this highly functional outer lining fab-ric protects the Dryzone areas – especially exposed areas such as the head and feet – from damp and moisture. Deuter-210T-Soft-Nylon Taffeta:

A soft, breathable, non-moisture sen-sitive, and fast drying shell material. Strong and durable, used on the Star-light EXP and Little Star EXP models.

Diamond 30D Nylon: First rate, ultra-fine 30 denier outer shell material that is extremely tightly woven. The tight weave makes this feather light micro-fibre material

strong, windproof, durable, quick drying and down proof. Reinforcementthreadsintheweftandweaveprovidefur-ther rip-stopping qualities. The ideal outer shell material for the new Deuter down sleeping bags. Additional PU coating in the Neosphere series means this highly func-tional outer lining fabric protects the Dryzone areas from damp and moisture.

Deuter Pro-Lite RS: A soft, durable, lightweight and fast drying nylon fabric. The tight weave makes this micro-fibre down proof, wind proof and water resistant.

High-Loft Hollowfiber: Synthetic hollow fibres are processed to a filling fleece (by thermal bonding). To ensure good compression and high loft,silicone isadded.Remarkable insulationrating, tearresistant and durable.

Deuter Thermo ProLoft®: A special thermal process turns polyester fibres into top quality technical Thermo ProLoft® insulating fleece. The combination of dense and hollow fibres results in the pre-fect blend between durability, weight and warmth proper-ties – a fleece material that is easy care and durable yet compact and offers excellent insulation at minimal weight. The synthetic fibres also absorb very little moisture. Short drying times, excellent loft and thus insulation properties even when damp, are all advantageous characteristics. Deuter Thermo ProLoft® is also coated with a thin layer of silicone and anti-allergens to give it good lofting proper-ties.

DownComposition 90/10:

The deciding factor in a down sleeping bag is the down quality. Primarily this is a matter of the weight ratio of down to small feather mixture, which is expressed in per-cent. Deuter uses only the high performance filling ratio of 90% down to 10% small feather.

Fill power / cuin: High quality sleeping bags should have a fill power of at least 650 cuin. This measurement in cubic inches per ounce of down shows the quality of the loft and expansion power of the filling. High quality down has a loft volume of 650 cu in (10.6 litres) per 1 ounce (28.3g). A loft of 550 cu in, and higher is good; of 650 - excellent; and 800 is almost impossible. In the end: the higher the volume the better the insulation value.

Combining: Deuter sleeping bags Orbit, Exosphere, Space, Trek Lite and Atmosphere can be zipped together. Use left-hand zip and right-hand zip versions when combining.

Deuter Dura Lite RS: A supersoft, lightweight nylon ripstop shell fabric for our Orbit and Space models. This ripstop-nylon weave fea-tures a water repellant finish. It is even

lighter Hexlite version is used for the Dream Lite.

260T Soft Nylon Tactel: This microfibre, which we use for our TwoFace model, is lightweight, highly breathable and its silky touch is very comfortable. It is durable, non-moistu-

re sensitive and fast drying.

Tactel 44D Nylon Diamond Ripstop: This lightweight, tough, quick-drying micro-fibre fabric with its silky-soft finish lends the Exosphere series its comfortable breathability properties.

Brushed Thermo Fleece: This lightweight, excellent polyester fleece material has a fluffy, brushed surface, making it extra soft on the skin. It possesses excellent warmth to

weight ratio and is breathable, durable, easy-care and dries quickly. Its elasticity supports the Thermo Stretch Comfort construction range of motion in the Exosphere SL models.

Tactel Softlining Nylon: This top quality 30 denier inner lining material achieves its silky soft texture through ultra-fine weave. The feather light, durable and easy-care micro-

fibre material is extremely soft on the skin and is excellent at wicking moisture away. Used in our new down sleeping bags.

Deuter-Soft-Micro: A 290T micro polyester lining material with silky soft touch and good breath ability. Used in the synthetic sleeping bags, it is lightweight, durable and ea-

sy to care for.

Deuter Micro Fleece: This soft and thick Polyester fleece ma-terial conducts moisture away from the skin at the TwoFace and has very good insulation properties.

Deuter Poly-Lite Soft: A soft, quick to warm, breathable, easy-care polyester suitable for use in synthetic sleeping bags like Exosphere.

Deuter Pro-Lite 50: A durable, easy-care micro denier polyester with excellent wicking and down proof properties.

Dura-Hexlite RS:Hexlite is an extremely lightweight and soft fabric that is used for the outer shell material in the Dreamlite series. This ripstop nylon material is also cha-

racterized by its water-repellent finish.
