It doesn’t necessarily mean that you like something.

The literal meaning of the word AMEN is “truth.”

It is said to affirm or agree that what is declared is true.





Isaiah 65:16 “Because he who is blessed in the earth shall be blessed by the God of truth; and he who swears in the earth shall swear by the God of truth.”











It was true they would be blessed or cursed…

In the New Testament, the original Greek word for AMEN is found 152 times.


If it is at the beginning of a statement (101 times), it is translated as “verily” or “truly” or “of a truth.”

If it is at the end of a statement (51 times), we find the familiar word AMEN.


In the 1st century, it was quite common in synagogues to respond to reading Scripture, or speaking about a passage, or offering prayer by saying AMEN.

This same custom then became a regular part of the early Christian assemblies.

1 Corinthians 14:16 Paul talks about those who would pray in other languages, and he asks, “If you do that, how will others be able to say the AMEN at your giving of thanks, at the end of your prayer, since they don’t know what you are saying?”

Does this mean we should all say AMEN at the end of prayers?

If it hasn’t been your habit to say AMEN after someone leads a prayer in the assembly, give it some thought.

Listen carefully to the words of the prayer. And if it is something you agree with, then join in that prayer by saying AMEN. Make it your prayer too.

We should PRAISE THE LORD because it is a very biblical thing to do.

Perhaps the biggest reason we need to PRAISE THE LORD is because He desires our praise.

Exodus 20:3-5 “You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God.”

Isaiah 42:8 God said, “I am the Lord, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another.”


Psalm 148:13 “Let us praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is to be exalted; His glory is above earth and heaven.”

God wants so much hear us praise and glorify His name.

God wants us to praise and glorify His name in the way we live as His beloved children.

V12 God wants us to “be to the praise of His glory.”

V14 We’re redeemed “to the praise of His glory.”


Philippians 1:9-11 “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

When we live like God wants us to live, we make Him proud; we bring praise and glory to His name, and He so much desires that.


So let us strive to live a life of godliness and a life of righteousness so that in both our words and our actions we will indeed PRAISE THE LORD!
